It's not a huge fuss. Basically, he'd have preferred the caramel colours on the Yoshi be brown, but I thought it'd have looked silly. And make it difficult for the shade to come out.
Admittedly, Dark Blues are even harder to shade.

CyanZangoose drew himself as a Yoshi, apparently. He wanted colours far darker than this... but to be honest, I really find caramel far more adorable.
