Thinking Of Making A Caramel Game

Alvin progress
set default image size: small | medium | wide
Some kind of roguelite game where Caramel goes thru a randomly generated dungeon. He levels up quickly, and the basic goal is to see how long you can last. After 15 min lets say, or upon completing a dungeon area, the dungeon randomly generates again.

You can swing a sword or do oil and fire magic. Other spells are granted by items, limited slots for this option.

Leveling up doesn't give you stats. However that's countered by being able to wear unlimited rings and gems. Most of the stats, passives, and conditional effects stack. Hoping to show them visually by individual copper, silver, gold, gem pixels following Caramel. (I'm not certain how much is possible by my level of programming skill, but it's what i have in mind.)

There is a rival cow that appears intermittently, and he's always higher level that you are. Since he would generate with stats and abilities designed to take advantage of your weaknesses, he might be too difficult to defeat, so I'd run away.

Art wise, to keep this from taking forever, I'd draw the characters at low pixel resolution.

Let me know your ideas. Also let me know if you'd be interested in funding a patreon if something like that happened. Basically the game is planned to be free, i don't wanna sell upgrades or cosmetics, i'd rather make it free for everyone whenever I make updates.

Something of a roguelike? I'd say go heavy on the Crypt of the Necrodancer, rather than standard roguelike. Having to dig through gear and compare stats is inimical to a quick playstyle, but CotN lets you get gear to power up pretty effectively despite there being no actual character level or similar.

Oooh, looks interesting!  I'll give it a try!  I'll get back to you on what I think about it, and what may work for me.

I tried it! It's fun. =D

I thought the beat based theme was neat. I guess it's QAUSI turned based with it.

My game would probably feel more like an arcade game, real-time action. Uh, graphically i want the animations to be smooth, and even show diagonal angles. Due to that, I can't realistically show different weapons, armor, hats on the character... as the amount of work would become exponential.
