Update:Another WIP of the baby dragon :D I made his legs smaller than I had before. I think it looks much better. need to get the claws on that right front claw/leg, do the other arm, tail, make some wings then he'll be ready for painting! :D
-----
I'm sculpting a baby dragon. I got one of the legs blocked out. I want the feet to be kind of big like puppies that will turn into big dogs have big paws. But I don't know... maybe I should make them smaller.. thought?

Even unfinished this looks very impressive to me. I had in the past dabbled with some detailed clay sculpting, and I currently use Sculpty Firm Gray, my simple woks don't come close to this kind of detail.

This is a link to one of my best clay sculpts that came out OK. Oh' it was made using a basic blue color Sculpty, before I started to buy Sculpty Firm Gray.

thank you :D I use a mixture of super sculpey and super sculpey firm so that it's just about the right consistency for me to work with but still have detail :D

Yes, it can be hard to find that right setting for the clay to work on the details. And without warping the main sculpt.

Another hard thing to do is work without touching it with one's fingers. If the clay is too soft it is easy to get fingerprints all over it.

I find it is good to have patience. What I now intend to do with a sculpt if I want details in it, is to make the clay soft enough for the mane form, then let it sit for a day or two.

After I go back and Work on the finer details once it is a bit harder. This way I can carve and shape the surface without disturbing the main form.

One thing I like about seeing this unfinished work of yours, is it can give one an idea of how you work on a sculpt. And I see you use wire. What I don't see is if you use aluminum foil to fill the body.

I have one sculpt in mind that I intend to work on soon. I may even start it this weekend. It will be of The pony Applejack, in a rather playfully teasing and anatomically revealing pose. Yes, an adult sculpt. But something fun.

The idea was inspired by a sculpt of a model that I payed for that I did not get. I got my money back and was told that too many ordered it, and no more reproductions will be made. So I will not ever be getting one. It was of a husky morph in a the pose I am thinking of.

At fist I thought of making one myself of that husky morph, but after I thought it would be both just as pleasing to me, and a bit funny to use Applejack instead.

And to me Applejack seems to be a little under appreciated, even a little by be. And to me in some ways, she seems more cute to me than Rarity, who seems to get more attention by fans. Not that I am picking favorites. If I was to do that, than I would go with Fluttershy or Derpy. ^.^

Seeing some of your other works has got me wanting to start on this one I wish to have done some day. Your other works look great to me as well. I may comment on some of them in time.

If you wish I can give you a link to my newest sculpt once finished, so you can have a look. ^.^
Though as I said, it will be anatomically revealing, and not as kid friendly as the ones you have posted.

I also would not be surprised if you where not interested. I know, not everyone is interested in such.

You can post me via PM if you are. Chow.

adult stuff doesn't bother me :D I just prefer to sculpt general rating stuff mostly.

You can see my deviantart page aachi-chan.deviantart.com for more of my work in progress pictures of my sculptures. THere are more sculptures there too.

This picture is deceiving because the baby dragon is actually very small. I think the head is only an inch or maybe even smaller. I did use a little aluminum foil in the body portion but I hate using aluminum foil because it always ends up sticking out where I decide I want some clay slimmer later on. I never put aluminum foil in limbs because I work so small. I often repose the limbs as I work too so foil just doesn't work. I bake my figures several times as I finish sections of the sculpt to prevent finger prints and I sand the baked clay with sanding sponges to get the smoothness in my figures :D

Those are some good tips, thank you.

I wish I had saved it, we had some house wire replaced, going out to the main power line. Expensive stuff. I save a good amount of it, but less than a quarter of it. It is perfict for sculpting onto.

I never tried to bake more then once. Perhaps I should try it, but not with the one I intend to work on this weekend.

It may take a few weeks before it is finished, I wish to take my time, and not rush it. My work turns out horrible If I do.
But once done I will post it on this site and PM you a link.

I think I will take a quick look at your deviantart page today. And thank you for giving me that link. ^.^

Wow, what a move. Well, I hope you like your new place. ^.^

I forgot one thing about my work on my sculpt of Applejack. I don't have an air brush yet. I can make the sculpt, but to paint it I need to get one. I think I may pick one up this weekend.

I will also need to spend a bit of time learning on how to use it. I never used one before.

As for traditional painting with a regular brush, I agree with you. I don't care for having visible brush strokes, and it is real hard to prevent it. Not without taking forever trying to paint it little by little.

I did find that for some paints that adding a bit of dish soap thins out the paint and helps with that, though it still is not near as fast or good as using an air brush.

This will be so neat having one for the first time. ^.^

Depending on how the sculpt goes, I may use a traditional paint brush for the main and tail. The brush strokes may add to the look of the hair I think. I will have to test that out.

yeah airbrushes are handy but they take a while to get used to.
