Chapter 103 - Meeting The Shadow Master...

"So... How long are you here for exactly?" Chris asked, having turned the heat on within the carriage for the girls while leaning out the window he'd opened as Gerald steered the carriage along. "Well... Not long, I'm afraid. This trip was meant only to deliver your gifts from the master and Madam Angela. Now that they've been delivered, my time's short." the butler replied as they entered the village streets. "We're in the middle of a rather important deal revolving our stock. It's that time of year when we begin selling off the Pokemon we've been raising, or rather, I've been raising. It's always sad to see the young ones leave... That's why I must return before things begin. The master and his wife have already delayed their operations longer than anticipated for my sake. I owe them a great enough deal as it is." he added. "Must be tough raising Pokemon year after year and having to see them leave time and again." Chris replied with a somber look. "Indeed..." Gerald sighed before chuckling. "But as the grown leave, more young ones await my tender care, so the void is always filled in the end. In fact, it's something akin to the two of us, I'd say." he point out, Chris tilting his head curiously. "Wadaya mean?" he asked. "Well, you were under my care for a time back in the city, then when you were ready to go about your journey, I bid you the same farewell I bid the Pokemon at the mansion. The only difference is, there's nothing to fill the void left when you departed. It's a void that has been felt throughout the mansion actually... Been a bit of a somber tone. Rather... Empty..." Gerald explained, looking down for a moment before smiling again. "But, that's something we're fairly accustomed to nonetheless, so don't fret. All things pass in due time." he assured with a thumbs up.

"Say, didn't those humans say something about wanting kids? I didn't pay much attention really, but it did feel like things changed a lot at that mansion place when we were there." Rose point out within the carriage. "That true. Those humans not let us have time with him when we there. He always busy with them." Serenity nodded before crossing her arms with a scowl. "I not like, it not fair." she added. "Oh come now. I didn't enjoy the solitude myself very much but their behavior IS understandable. Besides..." Alicia paused before smirking slyly. "Those humans were, how to say... Loaded. I quite enjoyed the atmosphere. They know how to use their fortune to the fullest." she added before scowling at Chris. "Unlike some humans who're too stingy to splurge!" she exclaimed, Chris pulling his head back in from the window with a scowl of his own. "Hey! At least I made a little effort! What about that necklace of yours huh?! It was the most expensive thing on the Guardian you know..." he scowled in response. "Necklace you say? Goodness, can't say I've had the opportunity to notice! Do show!" Gerald smiled, looking back into the carriage through the window behind him. Smirking, Alicia held her head out of the window on her side of the carriage, Gerald halting the ride and having a close look before blinking wide eyed. "My word, that IS extraordinary!" he praised, looking at the jewelry as it sparkled. "Heavens! That reminds me! I had something else for you Madam Alicia, some sort of spare from Madam Rose back at the laboratory. I'm not too certain of what she meant by that, but please, take it." he added, rummaging through his coat before pulling out a small box and handing it to the snake.

"Something else? Hopefully it's not as..." she paused, looking down toward the collar around her neck. "Well, lets just assume it's something more my taste," she nodded before fidgeting with the box, having a difficult time with her vines. "Bah! Here, open it." she ordered, holding it out to Chris. "O-Okay." he nodded, reaching out and fidgeting with it before finally clicking something causing it to flip open. "Well, what's inside?" the snake asked, Serenity and Rose looking over his shoulders curiously. "It's..." he muttered, taking out the tiny object within and holding it up. "Huh, another chip." he added, looking it over. "She must've figured the one you've got now was probably messed up, sinking to the bottom of the sea the way it did. The reporters probably covered all that too after you saved me and when the professor saw she decided to play it safe. I'll have to give her a ring later." he smirked before reaching out and turning Alicia's badge over. "It looks fine, but then again I don't know anything about this kinda stuff." he confessed while removing it and attaching the new chip. "There we go! Anti-Pokeball once again." he grinned before looking the old chip over. "Dunno if we should send this one back with Gerald or keep it as a souvenir..." he muttered while putting it in the box the new chip was in. "Apologies for letting it slip my mind. I was rather caught up in everything." Gerald smiled while looking through the window with slight sweat on his face. "Not to worry. I appreciate the delivery." Alicia nodded. "Well then, shall we continue on our way? With the lot of you now safely in the valley, I'll likely depart for the city sometime tonight, perhaps the early morning hours at latest, so we should do everything we can, while we can!" Gerald point out before having Rapidash pull the carriage once more, Chris showing another somber look causing the girls to pat him on the back and shoulder.

Continuing to ride through the village, the girls enjoyed the new scenery around them while Chris continued enjoying various conversations with Gerald, with Chris going over their cruise in greater detail while Gerald caught him up on all the happenings in the city since he and the girls departed. "Sorry things have been kinda down at the mansion since we left though. I didn't think we'd left that much of an impression on everyone there." Chris apologized with a nervous smile. "Indeed you did. You and yours combined truly livened things up during your stay. The ladies really brightened up the kitchen, that's for certain! The chef and his crew still go on about how amusing it was teaching them how to cook. Although the kitchen was a mess, they truly enjoyed the company." Gerald chuckled. "I couldn't believe they managed to make such a big cake, even with those cooks helping. It was cra...!!" Chris replied, finding himself cut off by a sudden awkward noise coming from within the carriage. Looking back, he raised an eyebrow at Rose and Alicia, who looked back at him and shook their heads in a "I dunno" manner. "It uh..." he added while leaning his head back out. "It was crazy! I mean, they had to spend forever putting it together like a puzzle and all. Then adding all the icing and decorations and stuff... I'm never gonna forget that shocker for as long as I li...!!" he went on, pausing when he heard the same awkward sound coming from behind him. "Alright now, who's fooling around? It's kinda rude you know!" he scowled while pulling his head back in the carriage. Looking at Rose and Alicia, the two were now pulling themselves back against the couch, a wide eyed look on their faces.

Tilting his head, Chris looked at the opposite side of the couch, seeing Serenity sitting with one hand on her stomach and the other covering her mouth. "I say, is something wrong?" Gerald asked as they trot along. "I don't like that look at all..." Alicia muttered warily. "She looks like she's about to blow." Rose added, raising her hands and wincing with a whimper. "H-Hey. What's wrong with you?" Chris asked, taking a wary stance himself, just as unwilling to get thrown up on as the others. "N-Urk... Not f-feel so...!!" Serenity groaned, her eyes suddenly shooting open wide. "Y-YOU MOVE!! MOVE NOW!!" she shout, yanking Chris aside before shoving her head out the window he'd been using and vomiting out the side of the carriage, causing the crowd walking about nearby to shout and quickly put distance between themselves and the sick Pokemon. "G-Good heavens!" Gerald panicked, abruptly making Rapidash halt before looking back. "D-Dear me... Perhaps I was going a tad too fast?" he muttered. Inside the carriage, Chris had landed atop Rose and Alicia, the two helping him raise up as all three looked at the nauseous Pokemon in surprise. "Y-You gonna be okay?" Chris asked nervously, reaching out and rubbing Serenity on the back causing her to quickly cover her mouth before going into another vomiting spell. Jerking his hand back, Chris sweat slightly as those nearby quickly moved along with their own sickened expressions. "Oh my... Best find something to clean the passage." Gerald muttered before climbing off the carriage. "I'll be back in a moment! One of the nearby shops should be willing to loan a few cleaning utensils." he point out before hurrying off.

"M-Maybe it was something she ate? We did have to eat leftovers on the ship this morning..." Chris suggested. "I... Find that highly unlikely. We've all had the same thing, so if it made her sick, we'd be sharing the same illness." Alicia point out. "Maybe it was her drink from the cafe place?" Rose chimed in. "I-I don't think so. Everything seemed pretty fresh in there." Chris replied as Serenity slowly pulled her head back in with another groan. "N-Not food or drink. Just sick all of sudden." she affirmed, rubbing her face. Reaching into his coat pocket, Chris pulled out a napkin he'd saved from the Guardian and wiped off her mouth. "I've returned! Here's a concoction for the madam to ease her nausea!" Gerald shout, hurrying up to the carriage with a cup of clear, fizzy liquid and supplies to clean the path. Climbing out, Chris took over cleaning Serenity's mess while having Gerald hand over the drink. "I'm terribly sorry madam. I didn't think I was steering us along so violently. I'll do my best to ensure your ride is smoother from here on." the butler apologized, handing her the solution. "N-Not ride. Not your fault, at least, not think it is." Serenity replied, urking again causing the girls to jolt as she rubbed her throat to ease back the sensation. "I thought perhaps you weren't accustomed to riding in a carriage. That or maybe being on land after rocking about on a boat for so long was the...!!" Gerald suggested, cut off when he saw Serenity about to vomit again. Quickly reaching under the carriage, he pulled out a bucket that had been hanging, used to hold feed for the Rapidash, and shoved it into the carriage through the window, Serenity grabbing hold and burying her face into it while Rose quickly took the cup from Serenity. "Goodness! Isn't this a bit extreme?" Alicia asked, slight concern in her expression as well.

"My boy, has she been ill before this came about?" Gerald asked as Chris scrubbed the brick path. "N-Not that I know of. They've all been perfectly fine! Uh, until now anyway. Maybe it's just the different atmosphere. The air is kinda different I guess." he point out, Gerald thinking it over and nodding. "Well, perhaps we should cut our tour short and see to...!!" he tried to suggest, cut off when Serenity shout "NO!!" in response with a nauseous looking scowl. "But madam, we really should..." he replied nervously, only for the Pokemon to continue scowling in agitation. Letting out a sigh, Gerald nodded in defeat. "Very well madam. I'll not be the one to encourage your anger. Far be it from me to bring out that side of you." he replied, Serenity nodding with a grunt. "Boy, you're not very assertive." Chris smiled nervously. "Against the madam here certainly not. A wise man does his best to avoid the wrath of a woman such as she." the old butler replied, Serenity smirking with a "that right!" in response, only to show another sudden woozy look and groan after looking down in the bucket. "I-I'll take that!" Chris panicked, snatching it away and hurrying it off to clean out, the Rapidash looking at the bucket and twitching its eye before shaking its head with a "blech" sort of response. "Is uh... Everything out now, madam?" Gerald asked, offering a napkin from his own coat pocket. Taking it, Serenity wiped her mouth before nodding and slumping in her seat. "I be-hick! okay. You and Chris keep doing thing, not worry." she assured, waving her hand while Alicia and Rose glanced at one another warily. "It's as I said, it's certainly not food related, otherwise we'd all be soiling the streets." Alicia affirmed.

Once Chris returned, he climbed back into the carriage to look over the woozy Pokemon, offering to take her to a center only to get an abrupt and agitated refusal. "O-Okay, okay!" Chris panicked. "After what they do to you back then when you take us to center for help? You stupid if think I let you take me again!" she lectured before clutching her stomach. "C-Crampy huh?" he asked. "It from throwing up." she replied with a groan. "Are you certain it's alright to continue?" Gerald asked, Chris letting out a sigh and nodding. "Neither of us will hear the end of it if we force anything. I'll look after her." he replied while having Serenity rest her head on his lap, causing the Pokemon to blush slightly while looking up at him. "There you go... Comfortable?" he smiled, feeling her cheeks and forehead. "No fever... Guess it was just a little bug that wanted out. Just relax, alright?" he asked while rubbing her cheek, her eyes widening as she nodded in response. "You talk to Gerald, have good time. He leave soon." she reminded. "I know, I know..." Chris nodded back with a somber look before smiling. "He's important to me, but so are you. Even though his visit's gonna be short, if you're sick then that's still gonna take priority no matter what. I'd never ignore any of you when you're in in this kinda state, no matter what, got it?" he asked, causing the Pokemon to flush all the more while he apologized to Gerald, the old butler smiling and waving in response. "Nonsense dear boy! That's one of your most admirable qualities. You just see to her well being and I'll do my best to provide an enjoyable ride through the village." he replied before giving a slight bow and returning the items they'd borrowed and climbing onto the carriage seat, making the Rapidash trot along once more.

"S-Sorry get sick all of sudden. Not mean to get in way." Serenity apologized, poking her fingers with a guilty look. "Hey, don't worry about it. You'll always come first when you're feelin' low! I love Gerald, but you take priority no matter what!" Chris smiled with a thumbs up, Serenity smiling before letting out a sigh as he rubbed her head. "That goes for all three of you!" he added, smiling at Rose and Alicia causing Serenity to show a sudden scowl while they smiled in response. "Just uh, do be sure to wash your hands before coming into contact with us again." the snake replied with a nervous smile. "Y-Yeah. No offense but... It really COULD be something contagious you know. Even if you don't feel bad, stuff Pokemon get can spread to others even if humans can't catch whatever we get." Rose point out warily. "Well, she won't go to a center so not much I can do. If we make her, she'd uh... Probably blow it sky high." Chris reminded. "That exactly what I do, and you not forget it!" Serenity lectured. "Okay, okay! We're not going so relax." he coaxed, the girls looking at one another nervously while Serenity nodded with a grunt. "Really, what am I gonna do with you?" Chris asked with a sigh, shaking his head while holding her cheek, only for the Pokemon to hold his arm and rub her cheek against it with an innocent look. "Love me? Never leave me?" she asked while looking up at him, her expression causing Chris to blush and stutter shyly. "Hey hey!! None of that!!" Alicia snapped, causing Chris to jolt and quickly shake his head while taking his arm away from the flirtatious Pokemon. "I sick! Why you never leave alone?!" Serenity argued, crossing her arms with an agitated scowl. "That's the problem! Even when sick you never quit!" the snake lectured, Chris looking at the two and sulking with a sigh.

"What a poor fellow, always caught in the thick of it." Gerald smirked while steering the carriage. "Ah! That reminds me! Impressive lecture Madam Rose!" he praised, the rabbit jolting before looking up at the butler through the window curiously. "I'm referring to earlier. I'd spotted you in the middle of the village giving the others what for. I must admit, it was an astonishing shocker! You're certainly coming out of your shell to say the least, and I'm proud of you for standing tall." he smiled, giving the rabbit a thumbs up. "I-It was nothing." she replied, waving her hand nervously before fidgeting shyly. "Knowing you saw that makes it embarrassing actually. I didn't think I was being that loud." she replied. "Yes well, it's good you're making your presence known better, even if you did use us as a means of doing so." Alicia nodded. "You did kinda have it coming." Chris point out with a nervous smile. Looking at him, the snake showed a slight scowl before glancing away. "Yes yes, I'll not deny it..." she replied, Serenity looking at everyone and crossing her arms with a scowl due to the attention steering away from her more and more. Reaching up, she pinched Chris's cheek and gave it a tug, causing him to hiss. "Ooowww ow ow ow. Whash wrong?!" he asked, the Pokemon suddenly letting his cheek go with her own puffed out in agitation. "You say if I sick I come first! You start to ignore!" she point out. "W-Well we were having a conversation. I mean, you're still..." he replied, sweating slightly as she continued scowling. "Honestly! Why are you behaving like such an infant? You're immature on a normal basis but this is ridiculous." Alicia lectured.

Looking at her, Serenity stuck out her tongue in response, the snake gritting her teeth with a pulse of anger on her forehead. "Oh that's it!!" she snapped, rearing her tail back to deliver a slap. "WOAH there!! Settle down, settle down!!" Chris ordered with his hands out, Serenity looking up at him before grabbing him in her arms. "Nyaaah! Master protects me!" she grinned before pulling her eye down and sticking her tongue out once more at Alicia with a "nyeeeeh!" causing the snake to twitch an eye. "Y-You..." she growled, Chris motioning for her to settle down. "E-Easy. She's in a weird state right now, alright? It might be part of the sickness." he point out. "That right! I sick so you not touch!" Serenity nodded smugly. "They not want to get sick, so this work for me just fine." she giggled while hugging him more, causing Chris to groan nervously. "C-Clingy is becoming an understatement here. Settle down." he coaxed, making her rest her head back on his lap while Alicia faced the window, grumbling in agitation while Rose looked at the group and sighed, shaking her head. "Don't worry, everyone will get plenty of attention. You always do, right?" he reminded, smiling at Alicia as she glanced at him before nodding silently. Looking back into the carriage, Gerald sighed and shook his head. "Well, at first glance they've grown at least." he smiled nervously as they trot along. Eventually, he finally stopped the carriage once more and climbed down from the seat, popping his back and letting out a relieved sigh while looking around. "Something wrong?" Chris asked, leaning his head out the window. "Oh, no. Everything's fine. I'm just not used to riding a carriage myself. Its been some time so it's a tad rough on an old back like mine." Gerald replied.

Deciding to climb out himself, Chris opened the door and walked up next to the butler, looking around curiously. "This place, it's almost like it's in a whole different world. Compared to the city at least. It kinda reminds me of those amish places." Chris point out. "Ah, yes. It does have that old world charm to it. That's just a part of what makes it so extraordinary in my opinion. The more the rest of the world modernizes itself, the more locations like this will become all the more cherished in the eyes of those with a taste for a time long past." Gerald nodded. Standing together, the two scanned their surroundings, both pointing out things of interest while the girls sat together in the carriage, watching the two curiously. "I do wonder if he's considered a place to stay. Or perhaps we're staying in this?" Alicia asked. "I'm not sure... This thing's pretty big so I guess it's not too big a problem if this winds up our home for a while. Even with you in here there's room to spare!" Rose smiled, the snake scowling at the remark. "Somehow that statement comes off as an insult." Alicia replied, looking herself over. "Snake have big body now to match big ego." Serenity scoffed. "Aren't we supposed to be getting along?" the snake asked, her eye twitching once more from the forced restraint. "Hey, not picking fight. Just say truth. Nothing wrong with that." Serenity shrugged. "He not want us to be perfect anyway. Just not want us to chase each other away. And I not want to be perfect. You not want to either, right? So we not need to be. Long as not kill or hurt each other, we okay, right?" she asked, Alicia raising an eyebrow. "I-I suppose." she nodded. "If we act like get along all the time, we both go crazy. We both know that" Serenity point out. "I can't exactly argue with that statement..." Alicia agreed. "Are you two really trying to agree about why you should bicker?" Rose asked with a "seriously?" look on her face.

Looking at the rabbit, Serenity shrugged before opening the carriage door and stepping out, making her way up to Chris and holding his arm causing him to jolt before looking at her smiling face, causing him to blush slightly and face away while scratching his nose. "Ahh, the sparks between you will never cease, will they?" Gerald asked with a chuckle. "It's still remarkable how you and yours make such a situation seem so normal and fitting. Under most circumstances I'd likely, admittedly, find such a coupling a tad odd. But in your case... Something about it simply comes off as charming." he nodded. "Well, we've gotten looks from plenty of people, but by and large I think most feel the same way as you do about us. Not that those against it say anything either. I guess when it comes to us, we're a lot like interracial couples. People might not exactly love the idea, it might make them uncomfortable, but because the world's always changing, they don't speak against it. Nobody wants to be labeled bigoted or racist, just the same as couples don't want to be labeled because of who they love. That's what I think at least." Chris replied. "Love knows no bounds after all. The only time love has a restriction on it is when there are restrictions set up by the intolerant types." he added, Gerald giving him a surprised look. "My, that's certainly an interesting statement. You're quite the intellectual at heart, aren't you?" he asked. "Nah, not all that smart. I just have my moments." Chris laughed, waving his hand while Serenity snuggled against his side. "Boy you're affectionate today. Guess you're not sick now huh?" he asked. "Feel good now." she replied. Raising an eyebrow, Gerald looked at the Pokemon curiously, giving his chin an intrigued rub.

"You know, there's a certain glow about her that's different, yet familiar somehow." the butler point out. "A glow?" Chris asked, giving him a confused look before facing Serenity. "Doesn't seem any different to me, just more clingy." he replied. "Perhaps it's just me, but something does appear to be different." Gerald point out while Serenity poked Chris's cheek. "Excuse me, but how long are we going to sit here?" Alicia called out, causing the two men to jolt before looking back. "M-My apologies madam! I only meant to rest a moment." Gerald smiled nervously. "What's the hurry? We're gonna be in the valley for a while you know. You should enjoy taking in the sights!' Chris point out with a smile. "She party pooper... We enjoy sights without!" Serenity smiled. "I don't really have any complaints but... Are we just living in here now?" Rose asked. "Oh yeah, haven't really thought about a place to stay for the night..." Chris muttered while looking around. "Well, you'd certainly be welcome to stay at the inn I've been at. The caretakers are long time friends of mine and I'm certain they'd find you and yours a sheer delight! You could rest there for the night, then tomorrow depart for the festival beyond the mountains." Gerald smiled. "Well, the place did look pretty cozy... Wadaya say girls? Wanna stay at that place Gerald's at?" he asked. Looking at one another, Rose and Alicia nodded in agreement. "Alright then... How bout' you Serenity?" he asked. "If you want to, I want to." she replied, giving him a kiss on the cheek causing Chris to jolt and blush once more, Alicia scowling in response to the sight before pulling her head back in the carriage, Rose smiling with slight sweat on her face before doing the same.

"Well then, I'll circle around the path up ahead and head back. Would you like to stop to pick something out for dinner, or perhaps you'd prefer to enjoy something at the inn?" Gerald asked. "Well, you said they had good stuff, so why not have a meal together at the inn? We can try out whatever stuff's around after you're gone. For now I'd rather we spend what time with you we can." Chris grinned. "It'd be a pleasure then." Gerald chuckled, putting a hand on Chris's head before returning to the seat of the carriage, Chris and Serenity climbing back inside with the others. Having Rapidash trot along once more, they circled a massive fountain in the center of a large plaza before returning along the direction they'd come from, passing cabin after cabin as the Christmas-esque village glistened around them. Eventually, they finally reached the inn Gerald stayed at, having traveled along a scenic route to get back. "You and yours can exit here at the front and I'll return the carriage and our friend here to the barn in the back, alright?" Gerald instructed, the group nodding before leaving the carriage and standing before the large and opulent inn before them. Looking up, Chris let out a whistle while Gerald steered the carriage behind the inn. Walking up, Chris paused when he smelled something in the air, leaning his face toward the wood making up the building and showing a surprised look. "Woah..." he muttered, the girls tilting their heads curiously. "Are you gonna eat the building?" Rose asked. "N-No! That's not it!" Chris panicked, waving his hands before sniffing the wood again. "It's just, you can really smell the forest. The scent of pine is really soothing. Smell it for yourself!" he instructed.

Looking at one another, Serenity and Rose nodded before walking up and taking in the scent for themselves, Alicia showing a slightly disturbed look. "I uh, don't exactly have much of a thing for sniffing random objects. Or... Buildings." she point out. "Oh just give it a try! It'll remind you of when we were in the forest overseas!" Chris smiled. Looking at him for a moment, the snake groaned before letting out a sigh and nodding. "Very well." she agreed, slithering up and giving the wood a sniff. "It really does smell amazing. It's a lot different than the weird smells in the city and the ocean." Rose giggled. "It smell really clean. I admit, I like this human house." Serenity nodded. "It's certainly... Interesting, I suppose?" Alicia added. "Sorry for making you do something uncomfortable." Chris apologized with a nervous smile. "N-Not to worry. It was an odd request but I uh, enjoyed it." Alicia replied with slight sweat on her face. Leaning toward the wood again, Chris along with Serenity and Rose gave it another sniff, smiling at one another while Alicia faced away, embarrassed to be with the group at the moment before noticing a limo driving up to the inn. "Well hello there. Perhaps we've occupants here that will suit my tastes." she muttered, watching as the vehicle made its way along before stopping before her. Inching back, the snake looked at the tinted glass, unable to see who was within the luxurious vehicle. However, she jolt when the window suddenly rolled down, revealing a short, older man sitting inside with a strange smile on his face. "Well well, you're in a dangerous climate, aren't you?" he asked, Alicia tilting her head in response. "By chance, are the lot of you planning to take up residence here?" he asked, the snake looking back at Chris and the girls before facing the man and nodding warily. "I see... What an extraordinarily fortunate circumstance!" the man chuckled. "Yes... Quite extraordinary. We've just arrived ourselves, and already we've run into the Guardian of Ureaxion." the man paused, looking at Chris with a smirk. "We simply must introduce ourselves." he added before the window suddenly rolled back up.

Looking at the limo, Alicia couldn't help but find herself quickly growing unsettled by the presence before her, looking the vehicle over before jolting back when the door opened and the man stepped out, holding a cane while two other men suddenly stepped out from the other side of the limo, all three donning strange outfits with the two men accompanying the elder hiding their eyes with shades. "Do pardon our intrusion, we'll only be a moment." the elder assured as the two men gathered by his side before the group walked past Alicia, the snake keeping a wary eye on them as they approached Chris from behind, hearing one of the men mention something about XD001 as they made their way along. Tilting her head, she followed and quickly returned to Chris's side as he and the girls looked over the inn. "I think a night here will be perfect. We'll have to check out that onsen place too once we're in the mountains. Sound good?" he asked, the girls nodding while Alicia suddenly gave him a nudge. "What's up?" he asked. However, before she could alert him to the men gathering behind, Serenity suddenly froze up next to him, her eyes widened causing Chris to raise an eyebrow. "More weird behavior? What now?" he asked, waving his hand in front of her face, only for the Pokemon to abruptly swing herself around and face the men. Tilting his head, Chris turned to face the men as well, jumping back in surprise while Rose turned and showed a nervous look, inching behind Chris as they looked at one another. "U-Uh, can we help you?" Chris asked. "We'd just like to take a look at something for a moment." the elder replied before he and the two men by his side pressed something on their glasses and looked up, almost as if something colossal were before them.

"XD001 was massive, yet it never surpassed this kind of reading. Look at how the aura towers above..." the man with blue hair point out. "Something like this... It could destroy everything." the man with red hair added. "Isn't it astounding? To think, if XD001 had resulted in this kind of power, everything would've come to fruition. Truly a shame." the elder nodded while continuing to smile. "Then again, if we'd have achieved this level, it's doubtable we would've been capable of controlling it no matter the method. As you said, it would've destroyed everything. XD001 was a task in itself, but this is an entirely different situation." he added. "Somehow, it still gives me a strange sense of pride, knowing there's another level beyond what we thought was perfection." he chuckled, Chris along with Alicia and Rose showing nervous expressions while Serenity remained wide eyed and still. "How does it contain everything? This reading... It should be ripping that Pokemon apart." the man with red hair asked. "If that energy's released, it will, and everything in sight." the man with blue hair affirmed. "Now now, it seems to be under control for the most part. Although our presence is certainly shaking things up a bit." the elder nodded. "S-Sorry to butt in guys, but you're kind of weirding us out a little." Chris interrupted. "Ah, do forgive us. We couldn't help but feed into our curiosity for a moment." the elder apologized as they faced Chris while pressing the same button on their glasses. "You've quite an interesting reading yourself. This will surely be an exquisite little vacation for us all!" he added while reaching a hand out. "Reading... Sir?" Chris asked with a puzzled look. "Do forgive our rudeness, and perhaps strangeness. My name is Greevil dear boy, and these are my sons, Ardos and Eldes." he revealed.

"Greevil?" Chris replied, blinking at the man as if the name struck a familiar tune, only to smile nervously and shake his hand. "Ch-Chris, and the Gardevoir here is Serenity, along with the Lopunny here, Rose, and Serperior there, who's Alicia, they're my family actually." he explained. "Your family...? Oh my, then you'd better keep a tight leash on this... Family... Of yours. Methinks there are things you're oblivious to at the moment that are exceptionally dangerous... Deadly really." Greevil warned, glancing at Serenity before continuing to show his friendly smile, his sons looking at one another silently. "I've a feeling we'll be in touch during our time here in Arcticu, and rest assured, the next time we meet, you'll remember who I am. And when that time comes, I'll have more to say that will be of particular interest to you. And likely of great help." he assured, having picked up on Chris's initial response to his name and giving a wave. "It was a pleasure to meet you Guardian, and your... Family." he nodded while turning away. "Until we see each other again then. And keep this part particularly in mind..." he paused, glancing back. "I'm not an enemy, to man or Pokemon anymore. My ambitions have died along with my past... I can be of help to you." Greevil finished before returning to his limo, his sons looking at Chris while pressing the button on their glasses once more. "This reading is particularly intriguing." Eldes point out. "It's inhuman..." Ardos added before they turned and returned to their limo as well. Climbing in together, the limo made its way off into the village, disappearing past the trees and buildings leaving Chris and the girls standing dumbfounded, looking at one another at a loss of what to think of the sudden meeting while Serenity clutched her chest.

"Hello there!" Gerald suddenly shout from behind them, having returned while the group was distracted making them jump and shout in surprise, the butler blinking at them in surprise himself. "Heavens, forgive me. Are you quite alright?" he apologized, looking at the unsettled group before him. "I say, you seem rather unnerved. Did something happen while I was away?" he asked curiously. Looking back toward where the limo vanished, Chris raised an eyebrow before shaking his head. "No... Not really, I guess." he replied while looking at Serenity, the Pokemon facing down in silence. "Just met some guys that were a little... Off, was all. But everything's fine." he added, putting a hand on Serenity's shoulder causing her to jolt before looking at him, seeing Chris smiling and smiling back. "...I think we'd best go inside. Come on in my boy." Gerald coaxed, guiding the group along.

Once they'd all entered the inn, Gerald glanced at Chris and Serenity before looking back in the direction he'd seen them looking, scanning the surroundings with a wary and quiet "hmm..." before entering himself and closing the door, following the group to the reception area.

Pokemon - Tale Of The Guardian Master - CH 102
Pokemon - Tale Of The Guardian Master - CH 104
Some time ago, a young man named Chris, now 23, discovered he was chosen to carry a curse passed onto him through his bloodline by a Ninetales his grandfather saved long ago, having grabbed its sacred tails to save it from falling to its demise. Burdened with this fate, which the young man now calls a blessing, Chris accepts the life chosen for him and allows the curse to guide him freely in life, destined to forever put others before himself, to forever follow the path the curse guides him along towards those in need most...

Along his journey thus far, Chris has come across a Ralts who was abandoned by her former trainer for being blind, hurled off the edge of a cliff and left to die that has since evolved into a full fledged Gardevoir by his side, swearing her life to the young man with the mysterious and terrifying ability to use the power of a Shadow Pokemon, granting her the title of a mysterious new Shadow Hybrid... Also traveling by his side is a Snivy who has since become a Servine, abandoned by her former trainer for refusing to evolve after a terrifying battle she had with a Serperior that left her mentally scarred, resulting in her former trainer neglecting and starving her in an attempt to persuade her to evolve, until he finally left her to die as well followed by a Buneary who has since evolved into Lopunny, who's former trainer became enraged due to her refusal to battle and tried to kill her off when he discovered she could only evolve via friendship...

Chris has met many people and Pokemon alike along his journey, each left as inspired by his presence as the last... He's nearly sacrificed himself to save Gardevoir and Servine from a deadly attack by a pack of Houndoom, lead by a Mega formed leader by hurling himself off a cliff to catch the two and nearly dying... Resulting in his lengthy stay in a location called Millennium City where he provided a hospital full of children an awe inspiring play room full of wonders any child would adore... Saved thousands of Pokemon eggs from dying out when their colossal incubation system malfunctioned in one of the cities many centers, and it's the location he saved Lopunny when she was a Buneary from being struck by a massive truck after being hurled into the highway by her former trainer... He's met and inspired a kindhearted old butler named Gerald who served the group during their stay in the city, and even came across the mysterious N from the Pokemon series, inspiring even this strange person during his stay in the city resulting in Chris being deemed a man worthy of keeping an eye on...

Most recently, Chris had become a criminal during his efforts to free Lopunny from her former trainer altogether, having forced his way into the city's top prison the man was held within and taking not only the Pokeball belonging to Lopunny, but taking all of his other Pokeballs to free the Pokemon within them as well only to discover the mans father was the Warden of that very prison in the process. Finding himself intrigued by Chris, the Warden gave him a chance to avoid prison time by revealing he was also the city's Gym Leader, striking a deal that if he won he would be pardoned of all crimes and allowed to leave the city.

Before the day of the match arrived, Chris found himself becoming close friends with the city's top scientist, Professor Rose, and together along with her staff they managed to complete Project Celebi, a device that could transplant sight between two people without surgery! The project turned out to be a success after Chris offered the sight in his left eye to give Gardevoir the ability to see the world for the first time via her right!

After this, the time for his showdown with the Warden arrived, and after a lengthy two part battle, Chris turned out the victor with the support of all those attending the event and beyond... To thank them for fighting for his sake, Chris gave Gardevoir, Servine, and Lopunny their own unique names, gaining the titles Serenity, Alicia, and Rose respectively, with Lopunny being named after the professor who had done so much for the group during their stay in the city...

After regaining his freedom, Chris and the girls spent a week at Arthur and Angela's massive manor on the outskirts of the city, followed by a first class cruise aboard the brand new S.S. Guardian, the first pollutant free ship in the world relying solely on solar power reservoirs! With its maiden voyage celebrating the 100th anniversary of the loss of the R.M.S. Arceanic, fate played its hand along their way to Arcticu Valley and led the Guardian to the exact location of the ships wreckage. Attacked by a massive Gyarados swarm, the Guardian was sank to the bottom of the sea, protected by a barrier crafted by Serenity which resulted in the discovery of the remains of the legendary ship.

In turn, many truths came to light in the dark depths, and after garnering the aid of the souls aboard the remains of the vessel, the Guardian managed to return to the surface of the sea once more and the Gyarados were defeated! Criminals were justly punished, a company was repossessed, and Chris was given total ownership of the entirety of the Arceanic wreck site! And now, they've finally arrived at their destination, and many more adventures are about to unfold...

Great chapter, not a single day has passed since they got on firm ground and they already managed to run into suspicious individuals. Too bad I have never played Pokemon XD… although there are wikis filled with information, it is not the same as to play the game and experience it firsthand. Greevil sons mentioned something really interesting, the energy should be ripping that Pokemon apart and everything in sight. I wonder if this would happen if Serenity gives in and let her shadow side completely take control… in retrospective there may were already critical moments :O And the trailer for this arc shines in new light for me, too.
The new villains (?) just arrived and I already can’t wait to see what will happen next.

To some other noteworthy stuff. It was (not) long ago Alicia noticed her chip was slightly damaged. I got a bit curious if this would have some relevance later in the story, because of the relative long time till it was replaced. But it looks like you waited for the perfect moment.
And a small personal thank you for not describing Serenity’s morning sickness (?!) vomiting too much. I already started feel queasy just from this. That aside, it’s funny how Serenity never misses her opportunity to flirt with Chris, even at times she feels sick. With Gerald with them, will they find out what is going on till he has to go back I wonder. Amusing thought, what will be going on when all three start to show the same symptoms.
The festival is beyond the mountains? I know you had foreshadowed some events, but I thought they will all happen in the same village. Argh sorry, somehow I thought Arcticu Valley= Arcticu Village. That it is bigger than I thought and that Chris and the girls have to travel a bit is sounds better.
This chapter introduced some upcoming themes, and I can’t wait to see what will happen!
