It's been a while since I've done any art for myself so I decided to draw my character Soomiko. I had a lota fun painting her again, and I tried out a new painting style with her.

I always wondered how people could just take colors and mix them together and it look good, so I tried to do the same, using a bright blue and pink for the shading and lighting.

I'm not so sure if this was a success or a bust.

Opinions on the color and critics are welcome.

As always, Soomika is as cute as a proverbial bunny. ;) The shading does look a little odd. It might be better if the background seemed to be lit the same way she is instead of separately white.

I know very little about artistry, but I remember learning that a lot of the more popular holidays of the year have colors that are opposites. Easter has blue and pink, christmas has green and red, Halloween originally had purple and orange (but purple was changed to black because purple dye was more expensive, from what I was told). There seems to be something memorable about clashing colors.

Also, from my time playing an image designer in Star Wars Galaxies, I learned that unlikely combinations can give very good results; my Twi'lek was very fond of forest green eyeshadow with a pink- or peach-colored blush (only female character I've ever played, because who's going to trust a male image designer, right?). It was surprisingly tasteful, so I liked mixing and matching different colors that don't really "fit".
