Kalimantani the striped hyena (Hyaena hyaena). I wanted to use this drawing as practice of strong colored lighting, but as it developed and took on it's own 'mood', it became more an opportunity to just practice shadowing. The background is watercolor paint applied with a wet-on-wet technique, followed by a light sprinkling of kosher salt for added flavor. The hyena girl herself is mostly Copic marker except for the goldenrod color that makes up the foundation for her yellowish fur (this was a Prismacolor marker). With every drawing, I learn that there's so much... to learn!
