Chapter 94 - Together Again

Optional track to LWR - Listen While Reading

Looking at everyone around him, Chris couldn't help but smile despite the grotesque scene on the bow that had everyone forcing themselves to resist urking while making their way towards cleaner parts of the ship, the girls themselves unable to face the front of the ship as they rubbed their throats trying to ease back the unsettled sensations in the pit of their stomachs. "You folks are so weak." he chuckled, watching as Captain Smith brought Ismay up to Captain Rostron and his crew, causing them to jolt back and cover their mouths when Ismay offered a hand to shake only to quickly pull it back with a nervous smile. "Methinks a quick dip would work nicely!!" Chris shout out motioning towards the ocean and getting a nod from Ismay in response before watching him plunge below the surface. "Guess uh... I should of considered that first myself." Smith muttered before apologizing to Rostron and the others. With a chuckle, Chris motioned for the girls to follow, deciding it best they head towards somewhere cleaner as well. However, just as they were about to head elsewhere, Smith shout out to the group, quickly floating up to them. "What's up Captain? Just heading off for some cleaner air and a little rest." Chris smiled, pointing out the nauseous girls. "Pardon for having to stop ya lad, but there's a matter of a gift, a souvenir if you will that needs taken care of." the Captain point out, Chris tilting his head curiously in response. "Oh yeah, you mentioned you wanted to toss something my way." Chris replied, looking around Smith. "So uh... What is it exactly? I don't see anything." he point out. "After so long below the surface, what COULD he have to give?" Alicia asked. "Oh, just a little something to remember this journey by. Just a moment." Smith replied before hovering overhead and putting his fingers to his mouth, letting out a loud whistle and motioning for a group of Yamask to gather.

"My officers and I will return shortly. Just wait there a moment." Smith instructed, Chris and the girls blinking at him confused before nodding together and watching as the Captain and Yamask by his side plunged into the ocean. "I wonder why people always wanna give me stuff? I'm really not one for this kind of thing, getting a reward just because of doing what's right." Chris muttered, scratching his cheek while Rostron and his officers walked up. "What's goin' on lad?" Rostron asked. "He wants to give me something, no idea what it is though. A trinket from the ship maybe?" Chris replied. "A treasure from the Arceanic? And from its Captain no less? Lucky you!" Rostron grinned, nudging Chris with his good arm. "Ha ha, yeah..." Chris chuckled before facing down with a somber smile. "Eh? What's on your mind lad?" the Captain asked, raising a curious eyebrow. "Oh, nothing. Just not sure how to feel about getting a gift, not only just for doing something good, but from a grave too... I don't like the idea of taking something that really should be left where it's at." Chris explained. Looking at Chris silently for a moment, Rostron chuckled and gave him a pat on the back. "Well, be that as it may, I think that's why you above anyone should be given something. You'll respect it the way whatever you receive should be. You know how important it is, how it deserves delicate care and the proper honor. For the very Captain of that ship to deem you worthy of something shouldn't be taken with guilt, but rather appreciation. A sign of just how highly he and those from that ship think of you." Rostron point out. "Bah. He's always been that way. He never wants to receive anything from anyone. I find it ridiculous myself. I'd love being showered with rewards." Alicia chimed in with her head up and a smirk on her face. "That because you greedy snake." Serenity muttered with her arms crossed, Alicia  letting out a hiss in her direction. "W-well... It doesn't hurt to get something nice now and then, right?" Rose point out from between the girls, feeling shrunk between them as they shot electricity between their glares.

After a moment, they finally noticed Smith rise up from the sea, coaxing the Yamask along as they slowly lift the Arceanic's colossal Arceus figurehead from the surface, raising it high above the ship before setting it gently down on a clean section of the bow. "Th-THAT'S what he wants to give me?!" Chris asked, unsure of what to think of, nor' what to do with the massive object as the girls and everyone around him looked at it wide eyed themselves. "That BIG reward..." Serenity muttered. "It looks ghastly after so long beneath the surface. It'd have to be given a massive restoration before I'd even consider accepting it." Alicia added. "That's gotta be heavy. How do we move it?" Rose asked, looking at Chris curiously. "Err... Maybe Ninetai...!!" he tried to reply, only for Ninetails to immediately cut him off with a firm "I don't think so" in his mind causing Chris to laugh nervously. "W-We'll find a way." he assured her before facing the object again as Smith and the Yamask looked it over before returning to him. "Well lad? What say you? An impressive token, is it not?" he asked with a grin. "Y-Yeah! It's, er, impressive alright!" he replied with a nod, not wanting to admit he hadn't a clue what to do with it. "That figurehead left the world in awe when the ship set sail so long ago. With that in your hands you'll see just as much appreciation come your way. It needs a good scrub, but rest assured it has plenty of life left in it!" Smith assured with a thumbs up. "Well, it'll take some time, but I give you my word I'll find a way to display it the way it deserves." Chris smiled, giving Smith a firm handshake. "You're absolutely sure it's alright for me to have it though? I don't want to take anything if it means any of you feel violated." Chris affirmed. "Not to worry lad, rest assured it's a unanimous decision." Smith replied with a wave of his hand. "Thanks to you they're finally free. It's the least we could do." he added.

"If you find a means of sending it where you want it to go, the least I can do is arrange for crew to unload it from the ship." Rostron point out. "I appreciate it. I should be able to find a way to send it back to my gramps cabin by making a few calls." Chris nodded. "Course, Captain Smith here and Alicia DO have a point. It needs work done on it before I go having it moved around too much." he point out. "There's a business in the valley that should be able to handle that during your stay. By the time the festival is finished they should have it looking good as new. If you like I can have a few calls made and arrange for pickup. I can have our company cover the transportation charges to the facility at the very least." Rostron replied. "Well..." Chris muttered, only for Alicia to suddenly snap her tail around his mouth. "He accepts the offer. Thank you." she said for him with a nod, Chris letting out a "mrph?!!" with an agitated look. Looking at them, Rostron and Smith blinked in silence before facing one another with a chuckle. "Very well then. We're busy at the moment communicating with other vessels, but once we've got aid on the way and can resume our voyage I'll make the necessary preparations for the figurehead." Rostron assured. Shoving away Alicia's tail from his mouth, Chris growled at the snake only for Alicia to flicker her tongue tauntingly with a chuckle. "Yeah, appreciate it." he told Rostron with a nod. "Sounds good. We'll have the crew work on cleaning up the bow, in the meantime feel free to go wherever you wish for some rest. We can talk more later once things have settled and our plates are a little less full." Rostron smiled. "Alright then. You sure you guys are okay enough to work so much though?" Chris asked, looking at Rostrons arm and leg before glancing at the officers and Chief Smith who remained on his stretcher. "We may be down a bit, but we're not out. Long as we're conscious, we can work." Rostron assured with a smirk.

"Aye! A bad backs never stopped me before. I don't plan to let it do so now. At the very least I can aid with instructions and communications." Chief Smith added, Captain Smith facing him with a smirk. "Good to know there's more to you akin to me than looks alone. A good man is one who keeps moving despite the odds against him." the Captain praised, the Chief smirking proudly. "Look at yourself, well over a hundred now and even death hasn't put a damper on your spirit." the Chief replied, Smith smirking before thinking about his age and letting out a groan. "Aye, well over a hundred..." he muttered, giving his back a slight rub causing everyone around him to laugh. About to chime into the conversation, Chris was stopped when the girls tapped his back, covering their mouths and pointing out the bow as the odor began growing stronger, Chris jolting when the wind waft the scent in his direction and fanning the air himself. "Eesh, startin' to get to me now too... Alright, alright." he nodded before tapping Rostron on the shoulder. "We're heading somewhere a little more fresh sir. Too much longer and you'll have more mess than that to clean up." he laughed nervously, pointing out the girls as looks of nausea returned to their faces. "A-Aye! Right then. The others are heading away by the dozen as well so it's best we get this mess off the ship before it gets any worse. We'll see you later lad, and rest assured we'll get that figurehead secured for you." Rostron affirmed. "I'll stick with these lads for a while, see what being a sailor is like nowadays." Captain Smith added. "You go on and catch up with the lasses. Enjoy a moment of peace." he smiled before putting a hand on Chris's shoulder. "Something we all should do while it lasts..." he added before using another hand to discretely point up towards the Dusknoir group above them, watching silently. Noticing them, Chris showed a somber look before nodding in response, the girls looking up as well before facing the two and tilting their heads confused as Chris took Smith's hand again, the two nodding simultaneously as Smith pat Chris on the back before he turned and walked past the girls, motioning for them to follow.

"What going on?" Serenity asked. "Yeah, all of a sudden you look sad." Rose added. "Upset your little adventure is over? I'd think it would be a good thing considering everything we've endured." Alicia point out. "No, it's not about that. But it's nothing you've gotta worry about either." Chris assured, waving his hand with a smile. "A wise man once said, with every meeting, a parting is sure to follow." he explained, the girls looking at one another curiously. "This person also said a parting doesn't have to last forever, that it's up to you to determine how long it lasts. Problem is, in this case it's out of my hands. That's what has me a little down at the moment, especially after just getting close to everyone." he added before walking along silently, looking at all of the people walking along their path with Yamask's by everyone's side mingling and enjoying themselves. Continuing along their way, the group eventually reached the stern of the ship where the crowds had gathered on the deck to relax, now far away from the grotesque scene at the bow. Looking around again, Chris chuckled as they made their way down a set of stairs onto the stern, glancing up at the sun. However, in his moment of distraction he found himself stumbling into an object followed by a shout of surprise, only to find himself having fallen over Sally once more. "I've heard of falling head over heels for somebody, but don't you think you're taking things a tad too literally?" Sally asked with a nervous smile and slight sweat on her face, this statement causing Serenity to scowl with her cheeks puffed and yank him off Sally. "E-Easy!! It was an accident!!" he assured nervously, Serenity gripping his arm tightly in her own with a jealous glare while Sally wheeled around to face the group, Alicia and Rose facing one another with a sigh and shaking their heads. "Ah, ha ha. It's just a little joke, I meant no harm." Sally assured, waving her hand before a Yamask poked its head out from behind her curiously and float up next to her.

"A-Ah!! Mr. Hartley, leader of the Arceanic band, right?" Chris asked, the Yamask smiling with a nod and a happy noise in response. "Yep!! It's him alright!!" Sally grinned. "I can't explain it, but I could just... FEEL it was him somehow." she added, facing Wallace with a giggle. "It really is amazing... Getting to meet my hero like this. I mean, now he's TWICE the hero he already was all things considered!" she added causing Wallace to rub the back of his head shyly with a "shucks" expression on his face. "Well, have I got some news for you." Chris chuckled, causing the two to face him curiously. "Remember how you said he vowed to play a special song if he was ever in a disaster? Well, while I was in Captain Smith's mind..." he began, Sally blinking confused. "Ah, hard to explain, but just try to go with it." Chris laughed nervously before continuing. "Basically, I saw everything that happened with my own eyes, and Wallace here played until the very second the water reached his feet. The song was Nearer My God To Thee and it was the most beautiful thing you could of heard." he praised, Wallace grinning from ear to ear. "In his last seconds before the sea swallowed him, he stood proud and strong, told his band how honored he was to be by their side... He was the hero you believed in, and then some. You'll never meet another fella with his amount of bravery! That I can assure you!" Chris went on, offering a hand to Wallace and giving it a firm shake before Sally suddenly snatched Wallace in her arms again for another squeal filled hug, causing the man to gasp and laugh nervously while patting her head. "He might be a spirit, but in a grasp like that it might be possible to die a second time! Best be careful!" Chris laughed, Sally jolting and releasing her grip with a panicked apology while Wallace waved his hand in a "no worries" kind of way.

"Surely you can understand the emotion one feels when being in front of their hero, right?" Sally asked before rubbing Wallace on the head. "Everyday." Chris replied with a smirk, looking back at the girls. "Only in my case I live with mine every day, three of them to be exact!" he grinned causing all three to jolt wide eyed and face away with embarrassed blushes. "I'm lucky enough to have mine by my side 24/7. You wanna talk about emotion, trying having your hero live with you. It's impossible to describe, but to say the least you always feel like you're on top of the world." he chuckled before facing Sally again, noticing a grin on her face causing him to tilt his head curiously. "I know exactly how that feels! Wallace will be living with us from now on!" she replied excitedly, causing both Chris and Wallace to jolt and look at her in surprise simultaneously. "L-Living with?" Chris asked with a nervous smile. "Yes indeed! Grandmother and I intend on bringing him home with us! It'll be an extraordinary life getting to have him by our side! Just think of all the things I can learn from a musician like him!" she giggled, Wallace glancing away with a nervous laugh while Chris faced down with a guilty look. "Whatever's the matter?" she asked curiously, blinking at him causing Chris to jolt and wave his hand. "N-Nothing at all! It's a nice idea!" he replied with a smile. "Not just an idea, it's an intention! We're going to have a grand life, aren't we?" she asked, facing Wallace with a smile causing him to jolt again and smile warily with a "r-right" kind of noise. "There you go, it's settled!" she clapped excitedly. "Well, we'll be on our way then. Enjoy your time and all!" Chris laughed nervously before waving and walking past, leaving Sally and the girls watching his back bewildered while Wallace scratched his cheek silently. "Is something troubling him?" Sally asked, looking at the girls who shrugged just as confused before following leaving Sally and Wallace behind, the two facing one another before Sally started rubbing Wallace on the head with another giggle.

"Acting funny. What wrong? You win, we safe. Should be happy. You fight hard, do lots of work, why be so sad now?" Serenity asked, walking next to him and leaning her face forward to look at his which was slightly lowered somberly. "Yeah! We thought when you got back everyone would celebrate! Right now everyone is, but you." Rose point out, reaching out and holding his hand. "You do deserve to enjoy yourself now that all the chaos has settled. You're making it a tad difficult for us by behaving so oddly. At least provide some sort of explanation." Alicia added. Pausing and looking around, Chris took a deep breath before turning and facing the girls, looking at the confused and concerned looks on their faces. "Well, you see..." he began to explain, only to find himself cut off when the Dusknoir group suddenly flew overhead and lowered to the deck behind Chris, causing him to shoot up and freeze wide eyed before slowly turning around, looking at them with a nervous laugh and a wave. "We have business to finish." the leader said, everyone around them backing away warily. "B-Business? But uh... I did it. They're not down there anymore so..." Chris replied with slight sweat on his face, the girls looking between him and the Dusknoir before getting between the two. "Not like how you make him nervous. You back off." Serenity ordered sternly. "Quite rude to drop in during the middle of a conversation." Alicia scowled. "Y-Yeah! Quit scaring him! H-He's had enough for one day..." Rose added before poking her fingers nervously. "I-If you don't mind, please." she added. Looking at the three, the leader grumbled before floating back. "We're here to return the part of you we took, not to take the rest." it explained, the girls blinking with a collective "eh?" of confusion, everyone around them looking at one another just as lost.

"Y-You mean I'm, I mean, we're good?" Chris asked, motioning for the girls to relax and walking in front of them, all three maintaining a wary stance. Watching the leader, it's massive maw slowly opened, the girls going wide eyed and twitching their eyes disturbed by the sight with a collective "ew" as the leader reached deep within and pulled out an orb of light. "As agreed, here is the portion of your soul that was sacrificed in return for gaining access to that ship. The deal was you get them to leave and you get to live. So take it." the leader explained before giving the orb and underhanded toss towards Chris. With a jolt, he ran up and grabbed it, only for the orb to flash and send particles of light rapidly spinning around him before shooting collectively into his chest, causing it to glow before dimly fading away. Looking at his chest, Chris felt it over before letting out a sigh of relief. "But... They haven't crossed over yet. Isn't that part of it too?" Chris asked, the Dusknoir looking around. "They'll cross over, we can sense it. Therefore we agreed returning what's yours ahead of time wasn't an issue." the leader replied, the girls looking at Chris in surprise as did everyone around them. "You risked that much to save a bunch of spirits you knew nothing about?" Alicia asked. "That's dangerous!! Why would you do that?! What about us?!" Rose panicked, tugging at his hand. "You... You give life and not care about us?! Not care about me?! You give soul that easy?!" Serenity added, stumbling back as Chris panicked. "I-It wasn't an option!! I had no choice!!" he replied, not wanting to tell them of Ninetails forced involvement on the matter. "L-Listen!! You would have died anyways if I hadn't!! Doing it meant a chance at saving you and it worked!!" he added, only for Serenity to yank him close by the collar with a furious look before slowly releasing him and turning away with her arms crossed, Rose still clinging to his hand as she started hicking causing Chris to jolt and face down at her with a groan. "H-Hey, come on now..." he coaxed, looking up at Alicia who rolled her eyes and shook her head.

"As I was saying." the leader interrupted. "They've abandoned that ship and they're ready to cross over. For someone who looks so incompetent, you did pretty good. All that's left is to open the way and allow them into the place they should've gone to long ago." he said before looking around at everyone, the passengers facing one another bewildered while the Yamask's rubbed their arms in guilt. "Pass on? Aren't you staying?" Sally asked Wallace, only for the man to glance away with a guilty smile. Looking at everyone, Chris faced down sadly. "That's what I was about to say before they came down. None of them can stay with these people. The deal was if they agreed to leave the ship, to save you and pass on, then they would release all these spirits from being trapped on the Arceanic and, well, I'd get the part of me back they took." he confessed, scratching his cheek nervously. "It's a surprise they were allowed the time to mingle with everyone like this really." he added, glancing back at the girls before facing the Dusknoir again. "That's why I was kinda bummed out. On the plus side everyone's safe, on the down side the spirits gotta go." he point out, everyone around them letting out collective "what?!" shouts and panicking. Looking around, the Dusknoir group dug in their ears, agitated by the shouting around them and grumbling. "It's as you said, they're lucky they had this much time to linger." the leader affirmed. "They no longer belong here, they've no purpose in this world. Their remorse is gone, they're ready to go." it explained. Hearing this, everyone around them began objecting and complaining over the matter, the Yamask unable to settle them down as Chris scratched his cheek nervously. "What's going on here?!" one of Rostron's officers shout as several walked onto the stern. Slapping his hand against his face, Chris let out a frustrated groan before deciding to coax the girls into leaving with him, motioning for the Dusknoir to follow as the officers took charge of the crowds.

"There's no point in stalling the inevitable any longer. The times come to wrap it up." the leader said, following behind. "Why you have them follow us?" Serenity asked in agitation, glancing back at the Dusknoir. Once they were at a quiet and empty enough location, Chris finally stopped with a sigh and turned to the group. "Listen, I know the deal was they all passed on. But... Suppose they DID find a purpose here, an actual purpose that was meaningful. A purpose that makes some of them staying tolerable, then would you let a few do so?" he asked, the group rolling their eyes. "Here we go..." the leader muttered. "Those souls have been in this world a hundred years. There's no reason for any of them to be left here, definitely none that would cause me to allow any to stay. I'm too professional for that nonsense." he added. "I wouldn't call them being here a hundred years already instead of passing on professional. If you did your job properly they wouldn't of needed intervention on my part to go." Chris replied, the group jolting and growling at him. "The point is, like it or not you failed this, well, job of yours in this case. Instead of bothering to get close to them and find ways to coax them along, they refused and you just locked them away and intimidated them, threatened them repeatedly. They've been your prisoners all this time and now they're willing to follow you despite the way you treated them. I'd think that deserves a few of them getting special treatment so long as the reason to stay is good enough. They have the right to pass on, but they also have the right of atonement." Chris point out, the group raising their eyebrow. "They may be ready to pass on, but that doesn't mean their conscious has been cleared so easily. If you want to be professionals, wouldn't that incline the souls you ferry being free of their regrets once on the other side? There are tons of them ready to go and feel right as rain now that they've rescued these people, but the ones who still have things on their mind... Why not hear them out? And again, so long as the reason seems good enough, let a few stay?" he asked, the group looking at one another silently.

"You'll know where they're at, and once they're ready I'm sure you'll get the call. It's not like you'd have a hard time keeping track of what few stay, and in the grand scheme of things. I'm not ordering you to do anything, I'm just saying it seems like the more professional option, if you really want to keep calling yourselves that. They deserve to pass on, AND they deserve to do so guilt and regret free. That's all I'm saying." he explained. "If all you want to do forever is just force every single soul to go without a single care about them, if you want to abuse the souls in your care and terrify them, then maybe you're working for the wrong side of the after life and should be working for the side of it as low as you are." he added, pointing downwards causing the group to jolt wide eyed, the girls blinking at him surprised. "Wow, that harsh." Serenity muttered. "Tsss, ooohhh. Low blow, low blow." Alicia added. "You can say some pretty cold things." Rose point out in surprise. "Well it's true, you'd think spirits working for the light would be a little more angelic. From what I've seen these guys are more demonic than anything if you ask me." he replied, the Dusknoir facing one another nervously. "Just try being a little less prick-ish, less arrogant. Trust me it'll make your job way easier than you think, and it'll make you more fitting for your roles. If you're hearing this from me, someone who barely knows you, imagine what those higher up may be thinking about you after this fiasco. Ever heard of divine retribution?" he asked, the group inching back warily. "Just be nicer to the souls you come in contact with, that's all. Otherwise, seriously, I think you're gonna wind up with a demotion I really don't think you want." he affirmed, pointing down again as the Dusknoir faced one another and muttered among themselves.

"It's your jobs, how you do it is up to you. I just know if it were my job to take people into the light, I'd be lighter on those people. You don't make the journey hell for them unless that's where you intend to go yourselves. You've forced imprisonment and took part in gambling using someones soul who wasn't even dead, two things that, last I checked, the one's you work for don't take kindly too." he finished, the Dusknoir showing unnerved expressions, especially the leader who was scratching his cheek warily. "What you do is up to you, but you should really start acting a little more humble and a little less cruel in the way you work." he point out before giving them a slight bow. "That's all I wanted to say. Good luck with your decisions." he told them with a wave before motioning for the girls to follow, leaving the Dusknoir behind. "Well, what do you know? That actually sounded pretty impressive. Good job on not mucking up your speech this time." Alicia praised with a smirk on her face. "Thanks, I think?" he nodded. "Hey, praise is praise, take what you get." she replied. "I like when he talk that way. Put foot down, say what right. I like seeing him scare them, they deserve it." Serenity added before grabbing his arm with a giggle. "That my Chris." she added, rubbing her nose against his cheek causing Chris to jolt and blush while Alicia rolled her eyes and made a kissy face expression. "Well, it did seem a little mean to do that to them, but at the same time, I dunno. I guess it was kinda manly, putting them in their place like that." Rose added, poking her fingers shyly with a slight blush on her face. "Yeah, well, it was just my two cents, nothing more. Guess it did come off a bit dick-ish, but at the same time when you consider how they've treated so many, they had it coming. What I told them is probably nothing compared to what I think those, you know, up there would do or say after all this." he point out, the girls looking up curiously.

"Anyways, lets just let the matter go for now until we see what happens. We've got more important things to do and discuss than think about all that mess." he added, looking at the girls with a smirk. "We haven't had much of a chance to talk since all that chaos broke loose after all. Instead of focusing on them, you girls deserve major props!" he added before turning to face them, all three blinking at him and tilting their heads. "To start off with, Rose! Look at you, running head first into danger to save Serenity from hurting herself!" he grinned, causing Rose to jolt and blush slightly. "When push comes to shove you really do have the heart of a lion deep down. You saw she was putting herself in a bad spot and rushed out to stop her before anyone else had the chance to! Seeing you holding her back was really something, and it's awesome to know you girls have each others backs like that." he added, giving Rose a thumbs up causing her to smile embarrassed and fidget. "Not only that, but you took charge in helping everyone who was hurt in the bridge! You really gave it your all to look after others..." he went on before squatting down with a chuckle and rubbing her on the head, causing her to face down while poking her fingers with a wide smile. "You've got a big heart Rose, a real big heart. I know how easy it is for you to get scared, but throughout this whole thing you've kept a pretty straight face for the most part. While everyone was losing their minds, freaking out and terrified, you stuck by Serenity there and did your best to stand tall when you were needed most. You can really be something, you know that?" he added, Rose thanking him before going wide eyed when he leaned forward and gave her a kiss on the lips, remaining still as stone before her ears suddenly shot up and she stumbled back, landing on her butt and blinking up at him with a surprised flush on her face.

"And speaking of Serenity..." he went on, pausing as he stood and faced her, noticing she'd already had her lips puckered and her eyes closed expecting a kiss of her own. With a smirk, he held out the tip of his staff, making her kiss the Pokeball at the end causing her to snatch the staff in her arms before jolting and looking at the object, pulling her lips away and blinking at it confused before scowling at Chris with an irritated "hrmph!!" and giving it back, crossing her arms and turning away. "Anyways, as I was going to say..." he chuckled. "You were a big surprise in all this too. Mega Evolving at the last second to save a whole entire ship! Gotta admit, never thought I'd ever see something as crazy as that. If it wasn't for me seeing it with my own two eyes, or uh... Eye..." he laughed. "I'd think it was all a made up story! That barrier you put up was insane! And gotta say, you really looked good in that other form of yours." he praised, Serenity jolting and showing a small smile, about to glance back only to clear her throat and maintain her stance with her back turned and a scowl on her face. "You were really something yourself. You kept that barrier up for a crazy amount of time! I can't imagine how hard it was on you, but to see you pushing yourself so hard to keep everyone safe, to save all these lives... You've really grown Serenity, even with how much you have against humans in mind, you still kept them all alive." he praised, Serenity grumbling before glancing back with her cheeks puffed out. "Still not like humans, hate them. But they important to you, you want safe, so I make them safe. That all. Not do it because I hate them less, do it for you. That all. Not expect me to do often though. Still not think they worth lives they have." she affirmed, Chris letting out a sigh yet smiling nonetheless. "Well, if that's the case then it feels good knowing how much you're willing to put aside for my sake. It's not easy to let go of your spite, your bias for others. Especially to sacrifice your own life for the sake of the ones you hate most in the world." he praised, Serenity facing away again with her face lowered in silence.

"You might not understand, but I felt it when you almost died. I was knocked out cold on the Arceanic the moment you came closest to the brink. Yet even as you passed out, something inside you fought to keep that barrier up. When you do something for the sake of others, even if it was just for my sake, you really put everything you've got into it. You got upset with me over nearly sacrificing myself for your sake, but what you did for everyone, for me, was no different really. To have that much dedication, that much perseverance... Even when I was losing it down there out of stress, you barely budged. You kept yourself together through everything that happened. That's why, even though you still hate them, I'd say you've grown. You kept all of your thoughts and emotions in check while I was a total mess down there for a while. You're amazing Serenity, you really are. I hope I can be as level headed as you girls were through all this someday, just like I told Captain Smith. I've actually got something to learn from you now! And that's pretty awesome if you ask me. It's like the student became the master!" he grinned, Serenity now smiling herself. "Well... Just happy you...!!" she said, cut off when she turned and found Chris's face inches from hers causing her to suddenly flush wide eyed. "Thanks for working so hard, even if you only did it for me... In fact, because it was all for me..." he paused, putting an arm around Serenity and leaning her back causing the Pokemon to freeze up with her hands clutched together tightly against her chest, stuttering nervously before letting out a surprised noise when he gave her a kiss. After a moment, he carefully pulled away while raising her up, leaving Serenity stuttering and giggling awkwardly, turning away flustered with a wide smile on her face.

"Well then, last but not least..." he paused, turning and facing Alicia who looked down at him curiously. "Well then, I can't wait to hear this." she replied. About to speak, Chris was immediately cut off by Serenity who grabbed him from behind and began excitedly kissing him all over his cheek, cuddling against him causing Alicia to growl with an agitated expression. "Hey!! I believe he was about to speak!!" the snake shout, Serenity looking up at her for a moment before sticking out her tongue and yanking Chris back, this time holding him in her arms and smothering his face in kisses. "S-Sereniphm!! C-Cut it oumph!! L-Let me bweafe!!" he panicked, flailing in her arms only for Serenity to shake her head with a "nuh-uh!!" in response and continue kissing him. Seeing this, Rose hid her face behind an ear, peeking at the two wide eyed with a blush on her face once again. "W-Wow..." she muttered. Watching the two, a vein of anger grew on Alicia, her eye twitching before finally letting out a shout and snapping her tail around Chris's leg. "That's enough!!" she ordered, suddenly snatching him in the air and holding him upside down in front of her causing Chris to shout and flail in surprise, Serenity letting out a whiny "heeeeyyy!!" and trying to grab at him almost like a piñata. "H-Hey!! P-Put me down!! Q-Quit it!!" he panicked, only for Alicia to turn his face towards her's with an agitated glare. "You. Talk. Now." she ordered, Chris looking at her wide eyed with a nod and a nervous laugh, putting his hands out in an "okay, okay" kind of way. With a nod and a "hrmph!" in response, Alicia turned him right side up and stood him on the deck, Serenity giggling with her hands ready to grab him only for Alicia to whip the end of her tail at Serenity's feet causing her to jump and shout before growling at Alicia, the snake letting out a hiss before facing Chris as he tugged at his collar.

"W-Wow, you've got some st-strength now." he laughed nervously, Alicia nodding and holding her head up with a smirk as he straightened his coat. "A-Anyways, yeah, getting back to you." he resumed, Alicia looking at him curiously. "W-Well, same thing with Serenity really. You girls had a problem with me risking my life, but you almost died yourself trying to save me." he point out. "I'm still not sure how you managed to survive the cold water, but seein' you do that for me is one thing that helped me swallow my own fears down below. I'm uh... Glad you didn't die, of course." he explained. "Well then, glad to be an inspiration I suppose." Alicia replied with a nod. "Well, it's not just that really. It's like I tell you girls repeatedly, I love all of you equally. A life without any one of you just wouldn't be a life worth living to me. Even if the others would still be around, there'd be a big emptiness inside I'd never be able to get over. When we got you back on the Guardian and you were unresponsive, I was freaking out big time." he confessed, scratching his cheek shyly while Alicia smirked. "Yes, a life without someone like me would surely be a disappointment." she replied proudly. "I remember seeing how distraught you were. Quite amusing to see such a little guy fretting over me so." she chuckled, patting him on the head with the tip of her tail causing him to blush slightly with an embarrassed grumble, Alicia showing a slight blush of her own with a small yet warm smile. "Being perfectly honest, it was flattering... Thank you." she told him with a nod, giving him a nudge against the cheek with the tip of her snout. "Ha ha. Gonna have to get used to being the, well, little guy." he replied, rubbing her on the cheek before she raised back up. "Why? Do you have a problem with that?" She asked with a teasing "nya nya" type of flicker with her tongue.

"Actually, no I don't. I like this new form!" he replied, Alicia's taunting tongue suddenly drooping as she blinked at him surprised before retracting it. "Back when you were a Snivy you were adorable. Then when you became a Servine you were still pretty cute, but you had this... I dunno. Kind of fire to you. A unique kind of beauty I guess." he went on, Alicia tilting her head curiously. "Now, you've got this huge new form, and I gotta say, every inch is pretty awesome! You've gone from being a cute little feisty girl to being the queen of all Serperiors! I've seen em' in books and sites and stuff, on TV and all, but even compared to the one's I've seen before they don't hold a candle to you!" he praised, Alicia holding her head up with a smirk. "Yes, I am extraordinary, aren't I? You've a good eye for quality." she replied. "That's just it though..." he point out causing the snake to jolt and look at him curiously once more. "You've got such a big form now. Hard to believe considering I've spent so long carrying you around. In a way, while you do look incredible, it kinda makes me sad. All three of you are so big, I won't be able to do that for any of you now. I'll miss having someone tagging along on my shoulders, just like I miss carrying Serenity and Rose here." he point out, looking at the two girls. "Can carry me!!" Serenity grinned, about to run up to his back and jump on only for Alicia to push her back with the tip of her tail against Serenity's forehead. "Oh no, you caused enough damage the last time you got overly clingy. Remember the stairs?" the snake reminded causing Serenity to jolt and inch back, poking her fingers with a guilty pout on her face and apologizing.

"D-Don't worry about that. No harm done in the end." he assured, rubbing Serenity on the head before facing Alicia again. "There's so much of you to take in now... Puts a guy like me at a loss for words when you've got somebody that already looked like royalty, well, looking even more amazing. You really put everyone out there to shame." he smiled, Alicia rubbing the tip of her tail along her nose with a smirk. Walking up, Chris touched Alicia's tail and walked along her form, rubbing his hand along causing her to jolt and blush slightly as his hand stopped along her side just below her neck. "Really is something. Feels as amazing as it looks." he point out causing the snake to glance away shyly. "Y-Yes, well. Naturally." she replied before looking back down at him, freezing when her eyes met his. "They say a Serperior will only recognize someone who isn't fazed by their eyes... I have to say, your eyes are pretty hard to handle." he point out, causing Alicia to jolt and glance away, quickly covering them with the tip of her tail. "N-Never you mind my eyes. You needn't focus on them, I already recognize you plenty." she replied. "Come on, I didn't mean that in a bad way." he assured before reaching up and pulling her tail away. "They're hard to handle because... Well... Put it this way. You've seen the sun setting in the mountains, right?" he asked, Alicia tilting her head and nodding. "Think of it like this... There you are, standing right at the edge of a cliff, and the most amazing sunset you've ever seen, or will ever see, in your whole life is right there in front of you. It's so beautiful, you can't help but inch your way closer and closer to the cliff, just to take in every second possible. It's dangerous, but the beauty of what's before your eyes makes the risk worth it. That's what it's like to look in your eyes now." he point out, causing Alicia to blink at him in surprise with a blush on her face.

"Your eyes DO look dangerous, they're intimidating sure. But they're so beautiful it's worth taking whatever risk to gaze into them... They're not scary in the least, they just have this overwhelming power, an intense pride within them that makes someone like me feel envious, jealous really... But they're eyes I'd give anything to gaze into any chance I could get. You were freaked out by a Serperior's eyes in the past, and you're still nervous over them now. But being honest, I think they're just another part of you that makes you impossible to look away from. You're pretty hot Alicia!" he grinned with a thumbs up, the snake jolting back and facing away, now flushing and clearing her throat embarrassed. "N-Not so loudly you oaf!" she replied causing him to laugh. "I'll just have to be careful though. Who knows what could happen if I push my luck and get too close to that sunset. I might not make it out alive." he added with a wink, Alicia looking at him silently for a moment before smirking and suddenly wrapping her tail around him. "Eh...?" he muttered, looking down curiously before finding himself yanked up close to her, nearly getting whiplash as she giggled and lowered her face to his, Serenity gritting her teeth and twitching an eye with a jealous growl while Rose smiled nervously and tried coaxing her into relaxing. "Well, why don't you just try and find out what could happen...? If you won't do so on your own, little man, I'll just have to push you over that cliff of yours myself, now won't I?" she told him with a flirty smirk, causing Chris to blink at her wide eyed and stutter slightly before she rubbed her face against his cheek. "You hopeless fool..." she giggled before pulling away slightly and looking at him once more. "Oddly enough, your tackiness has come to be an endearing thing about you. If these eyes are that extraordinary to you, feel free to gaze into them anytime. I won't refuse... No matter how close you might want to get." she added before leaning forward and giving him a peck on the lips, causing Chris's eyes to shoot open all the wider and a flush to appear on his face. "I can't guarantee your safety of course, but rest assured you won't die." she added with a wink before flicking the tip of her tongue against his lips teasingly and leaning her face next to his cheek. "You might even like whatever dangers you run into..." she told him quietly before backing away and releasing him, leaving Chris standing and clutching his staff with his legs now slightly shaking, his face remaining red.

"Did I go too far?" she asked before snickering and patting his head with the tip of her tail. "Poor little man, steps into the kitchen but can't take the heat." she added before slithering off towards the ships railing. Walking up to him, Serenity waved her hand in front of his face before giving him a push, causing Chris to jolt and shake his head before facing her. "What with that look?! What she say?!" Serenity asked in irritation, Chris laughing nervously and waving his hand. "N-Nothing!! No worries!!" he assured, Serenity puffing out her cheeks with a growl before crossing her arms. "You not get that way with me... I kiss you and you not want be near, just try to get away." she pout. "Th-That's not it!! I liked it, honestly!! But uh, you know. A guy has to breathe..." Chris replied nervously while scratching his cheek. "I like it when you give me attention. Really I do." he added, Serenity walking up with her face in his. "Then... Can give more attention?" she asked. Inching back, Chris laughed nervously with a hand up, Serenity continuing to walk closer until he found his back against a wall causing him to jolt and freeze up as she giggled slyly and reached out. "E-Easy now. I-I like affection! But m-moderation!!" he reminded, only for his words to fall on deaf ears as Serenity snatched him in her arms again and poked his nose. "Have lot of time to make up for. Lot of kisses to give." she told him before leaning her face towards his ear. "Lot of other things to catch up on too..." she giggled before rubbing her nose against his cheek and giving his neck a small bite causing him to jolt and quickly jump away. "C-Come on now!! T-Time and place!!" he panicked, only for Serenity to hold her hands out with the expression of a feline ready to pounce on prey. "S-Serenity?! Serenity!!" he shout, quickly dodging when she jumped at him before giving chase.

"You mine!! I catch!!" she shout, running around the deck after him while Rose watched them circle her and sighed, shaking her head. "Back to normal." she muttered, showing a worn out smile before jolting when Chris let out a shout followed by the sound of a thud, Rose turning to see Serenity having caught him, now lying on top of him. "N-Not now!! Not in the open!!" he panicked as Serenity pinned him down. "You owe!! Want reward!!" she replied, inching her face down closer to his with her lips puckered while he flushed wide eyed. "I-I never said anything about rewards!! I-I already g-gave you a kiss!!" he panicked, Serenity giving him a scowl. "So you NOT want me?" she asked, causing him to jolt and groan. "Th-That's not it!! I-It's just, you know... Out in the open and all..." he muttered nervously with a shy scowl. "So? I not care. Humans want watch, then let watch!" she grinned before suddenly planting a kiss, followed by another, then another until she was smothering him just as badly as before, Chris failing beneath her, only for Serenity to keep him pinned with an excited giggle before giving him a sadistic smile. "I like when fight... Make fun." she told him causing Chris to sweat slightly before the onslaught of affection continued. Turning to see the two on the deck, Alicia was about to intervene when she suddenly jolt and froze, catching a glimpse of herself in one of the windows beside her. "I-It's gone..." she muttered, her eyes wide and her expression seemingly pale. Noticing her awkward stance Rose tilt her head curiously. "Something wrong?" she asked, walking up to the snake and looking up as Alicia remained wide eyed and still. "A-Alicia? Hello?" Rose called out, giving the snake a cautious poke against her side.

Suddenly, Alicia let out an ear piercing scream that sent Rose flailing back in terror, quickly tugging her ears down with a shout of pain while Chris shot up from hearing the noise, causing his forehead to slam into Serenity's by mistake sending the Pokemon shooting back and clutching her forehead in pain. "OWWW!!! WHAT THAT FOR?!!" she shout in agitation, hissing while rapidly rubbing her forehead to ease the pain. "Wh-What's going on?! What's wrong?!" Chris panicked quickly straightening up and facing the girls. "It's gone!!! It's gone, it's gone, it's gone!!!" Alicia panicked, suddenly darting about all over the place, her eyes rapidly scanning the deck. "Wh-What's gone?" Chris asked confused, suddenly feeling the pain in his own forehead and letting out a hiss of his own while clutching it. "G-Geez..." he muttered as Serenity walked up to his side. "Stupid snake... She ruin moment AGAIN." she grumbled, Chris noticing the mark on her forehead. "Ooohhh... S-Sorry Serenity..." he apologized, looking over the mark while Serenity pout. "Whenever want to show love something always happen. It not fair..." she complained. "S-Sorry. I'll make it up to you." he assured, giving the mark a touch causing Serenity to jerk back and cover it with a groan. "We'd better get some ic-AAGH!!" Chris shout, cut off when Alicia barreled over him by mistake causing the two to tumble along the deck, her body tangling around him. "A-Alicia!! What's WITH you?!" he shout in agitation, trying to free himself from the knot around him only to notice the snakes expression and freeze. "A-Alicia...?" he said quietly, blinking at her in surprise as he watched tears well up in her eyes. "Gone... It's gone..." she repeat. "E-Easy now, what's gone?" he coaxed while pulling himself free and standing close to her.

Continuing to look around frantically for a moment, Alicia started crying causing Chris's eyes to widen before watching as she pointed the tip of her tail at her neck. "The badge, the necklace... They're gone." she replied, causing him to jolt and suddenly flash back to when she saved him in the ocean. "When you evolved..." he muttered, showing a guilty expression as Alicia hung her head while continuing to sob. "When you turned into a Serperior you probably got too big and the necklace snapped..." he point out, looking out towards the ocean. "Aw man... I'm sorry Alicia." he apologized, putting a hand on her as she hicked, Serenity and Rose walking up with their heads tilt. "What snake being baby about?" Serenity asked with a raised eyebrow. "Easy Serenity. She lost the badge I gave her. Probably when she jumped out there to save me." he replied, Serenity letting out a slight "urk" type of noise and apologizing quietly while rubbing her arm. "I-I'm sure we can find it!" Rose smiled nervously. "It's in the infinite ocean you twit!!" Alicia snapped with an enraged look on her face, causing Rose to shout and jump behind Serenity. "S-Sorry..." the rabbit apologized. "Hey now, lets not take it out on others..." Chris coaxed, the snake facing away before letting out a frustrated shout and snapping her tail around two nearby deck chairs and crushing them before flinging the broken bits clear over the ship and into the sea. "G-Geez!!" Chris jumped back wide eyed, Rose and even Serenity surprised by the action. "E-Easy Alicia! Keep in mind HOW it was lost... That's more important than losing the necklace itself." he reminded, rubbing the snake on her back as she looked at a window nearby, touching the tip of her tail against her neck. "I've never seen you so emotional, especially over an object... You really thought that much of it?" Chris asked. "OF COURSE I DID!!" she snapped with fire in her eyes causing Chris to jump back once again, his face slightly pale before quickly apologizing.

"That badge was the start of a new beginning for me. Everything revolving how it was obtained, and what happened afterwards... It was a symbol of everything I'd worked so hard on to overcome. Full of memories." she added before facing away. "It... Meant a lot for various reasons. Don't you remember what you did and said when you gave it to me?" she explained while facing down somberly. "...Idiot..." she muttered, Chris rubbing the back of his head with a guilty look while the girls faced one another silently before facing down and holding their own badges. "It... Would feel bad to lose it..." Rose spoke up. "She right. They mean lots. Go crazy if lost mine. Badge mean more than anything in world. Well, not much as you, but still." Serenity added, the two facing Chris before looking at Alicia again, the snake scowling at the two. "Oh, so kind of you to sympathize." she told them before facing away. "A-Alicia..." Chris said in a somber tone before rubbing her back once again. "You know, with or without it you've still got me. Being the one who gave it to you, everything that was important about that badge you can still find in me. The memories, the accomplishments. If you want, I can even tell you everyday how amazing you are! I'd be glad to tell you how much you mean to me anytime! How strong you are, how beautiful... You know it would come from the heart!" he coaxed with a grin, Alicia glancing at him before facing away with another quiet "idiot" response. "Come on now..." Chris replied before leaning his face below hers, the snake looking at him sadly before jolting wide eyed when he made an awkward face and shoved a finger up his nose. "HOW VILE!!!" she shout in disgust, quickly shooting back away from him. "Aww, I'm not doin' noooothiiiin'." he grinned before walking up in her direction. "K-Keep back!!" she ordered as he held the finger he'd had in his nose out to her.

"I might be losing points here, but it's worth it..." he thought. "G-Get back I say!! Away with you!!" she barked, only for Chris to suddenly run towards her causing Alicia to jolt and slither rapidly away. "Filthy dog!! Away!! Away!! I'll attack, I mean it!!" she shout as he ran around. "That's... Nasty..." Rose muttered. "Not see him do that before. That... Not attractive..." Serenity agreed, the two twitching an eye while watching in a slumped position. After a moment, Alicia coiled her way rapidly around one of the posts on the ship and climbed out of Chris's reach. "Aww, come on Alicia!!" he shout before reaching in his nose again and holding it up. "Sharing is caaaaariiiiinnnng..." he teased. "Pig!! You pig!! You filthy, uncultured, sickening swine!!!" Alicia shout, gripping the post so tightly it could be heard snapping slightly within. "Forget what I told you!!! I never want you near me again!!! To think you actually DO that!! Disgusting!!" she barked, tears still streaming from her eyes albeit with a flushed expression of irritation. "The worst!! You're the worst!! Doing such a thing at a moment like that!! Pig!! Pig pig pig!!! IDIOT!!!" she screamed as he grinned and wiggled his finger up at her, causing the snake to rant at him all the more. "You know they're going to avoid you after this, right...?" Ninetails voice echoed within his mind. "Yeah, but I'd rather her be angry than sad. This kind of distraction is better than just leaving her like she was..." he replied with a chuckle. "You're actually LAUGHING about this?!" Alicia shout, causing him to jolt and shake his head. "N-No!! Well, not at... I mean..." he tried to explain, only for Alicia to let out a shout and start snapping her vines towards him forcing Chris to dodge and awkwardly dance to avoid them as she lectured him from her perch.

"Aww... That was sweet... Gross, but sweet." Sally said from afar, having watched the scenario from a corner, Wallace floating out from behind her and nodding with a smile. "Still, a shame she lost something so precious to her. A necklace huh? It couldn't have gotten too far from here... Probably somewhere along the trail we took." she muttered, Wallace blinking at her curiously. "It'd take a crazy search team to find it. Lots of equipment too, not to mention the money. And even with all that there's little odds it'd be found. Like winning the lottery, maybe even worse odds." she added with a nervous laugh. Tilting his head, Wallace faced the group before them before smirking with a nod, turning to Sally and patting his fist against his chest confidently. "Eh? What now?" she asked, blinking at him curiously as Wallace motioned towards the sea and pointed at himself. "You think you can find it?" she asked, causing him to jolt and laugh nervously, waving his hands and shaking his head before holding a finger out, motioning for her to wait and quickly flying off. "H-Hey!! Wallace!!" she shout before quickly wheeling off in his direction, the sound of her voice causing Rose and Serenity to jolt and face where they were at. "You hear something?" Rose asked. "Hear something, see nothing." Serenity replied, the two looking at one another with a shrug before hearing Chris scream and jolting, turning to see him skipping around and rapidly rubbing his butt from being whipped by Alicia. "HA!! That's what you get!! Have some more you nasty thing!!" Alicia shout before continuing her onslaught of vine attacks, forcing him to continue dodging and dancing about while keeping a firm grasp on his backside to protect it, the girls unable to resist snickering at the scene while covering their mouths. "Now it's kinda funny." Rose muttered. "He good dancer." Serenity added as he turned to them and suddenly shout for their help, the two facing one another before sticking their tongues out at him causing Chris to shout "how cruel!!" in response, the two laughing while Alicia kept him on his toes.

Elsewhere on the ship, Wallace was busily gathering other Yamask, finally forming a massive group before finally stopping and chattering away, Sally wheeling up wheezing from exhaustion. "Wh-What... Are you..." she pant, reaching out weakly before flopping her hand down with a worn out groan causing Wallace to jolt and face her with an apologetic look, rubbing the back of his head and letting out a "sorry" kind of noise before motioning at all of the Yamask and patting his fist against his chest once more, motioning towards the sea and giving Sally a thumbs up. "I-Is this, like... A search party?" she asked, Wallace grinning with an excited nod. "You gathered them to look for the necklace? But what about those Dusknoir?!" she panicked, the Yamask looking at one another warily while Wallace scratched his cheek with an "oh yeah..." expression. "What about those Dusknoir...?" they suddenly heard an eerie voice say, only for the leader to float up from the deck followed by the others behind Sally causing her to shoot up and freeze with a shudder running through her spine. "What's this about? Plotting an escape?" it asked with a stern glare, Wallace jolting and rapidly shaking his hands with slight sweat on his face before quickly chattering away, the Dusknoir listening and looking at one another. "A delay for a trinket? We've delayed long enough as-is. Now you want us to let you just go where you please for some random object for the sake of appeasing someone you know nothing of?" the leader asked with his arms crossed, only for Wallace to show a furious look and start chattering in irritation at the Dusknoir. "You humans are beyond any beings comprehension..." the leader grumbled before facing the others. "...Very well." it agreed before facing Wallace. "We're in the middle of a little... Debate of sorts... So you've got some, SOME time, to go on this scavenger hunt of yours. Be back when we say to return." it ordered, the Yamask and Wallace looking at them in surprise before nodding, Wallace turning to Sally with a salute before motioning for the others to quickly follow and plunging into the sea with them.

"Y-You actually let them go?" Sally asked in surprise, blinking at the Dusknoir as they turned away. "Mind your own business." the leader replied coldly before they disappeared through the deck, leaving her tilting her head bewildered. "Hard to read... Not a very friendly bunch." she muttered before wheeling up to the railing and looking down where the Yamask vanished into the sea...

Some time ago, a young man named Chris, now 23, discovered he was chosen to carry a curse passed onto him through his bloodline by a Ninetails his grandfather saved long ago, having grabbed its sacred tails to save it from falling to its demise. Burdened with this fate, which the young man now calls a blessing, Chris accepts the life chosen for him and allows the curse to guide him freely in life, destined to forever put others before himself, to forever follow the path the curse guides him along towards those in need most...

Along his journey thus far, Chris has come across a Ralts who was abandoned by her former trainer for being blind, hurled off the edge of a cliff and left to die that has since evolved into a full fledged Gardevoir by his side, swearing her life to the young man with the mysterious and terrifying ability to use the power of a Shadow Pokemon, granting her the title of a mysterious new Shadow Hybrid... Also traveling by his side is a Snivy who has since become a Servine, abandoned by her former trainer for refusing to evolve after a terrifying battle she had with a Serperior that left her mentally scarred, resulting in her former trainer neglecting and starving her in an attempt to persuade her to evolve, until he finally left her to die as well followed by a Buneary who has since evolved into Lopunny, who's former trainer became enraged due to her refusal to battle and tried to kill her off when he discovered she could only evolve via friendship...

Chris has met many people and Pokemon alike along his journey, each left as inspired by his presence as the last... He's nearly sacrificed himself to save Gardevoir and Servine from a deadly attack by a pack of Houndoom, lead by a Mega formed leader by hurling himself off a cliff to catch the two and nearly dying... Resulting in his lengthy stay in a location called Millennium City where he provided a hospital full of children an awe inspiring play room full of wonders any child would adore... Saved thousands of Pokemon eggs from dying out when their colossal incubation system malfunctioned in one of the cities many centers, and it's the location he saved Lopunny when she was a Buneary from being struck by a massive truck after being hurled into the highway by her former trainer... He's met and inspired a kindhearted old butler named Gerald who served the group during their stay in the city, and even came across the mysterious N from the Pokemon series, inspiring even this strange person during his stay in the city resulting in Chris being deemed a man worthy of keeping an eye on...

Most recently, Chris had become a criminal during his efforts to free Lopunny from her former trainer altogether, having forced his way into the city's top prison the man was held within and taking not only the Pokeball belonging to Lopunny, but taking all of his other Pokeballs to free the Pokemon within them as well only to discover the mans father was the Warden of that very prison in the process. Finding himself intrigued by Chris, the Warden gave him a chance to avoid prison time by revealing he was also the city's Gym Leader, striking a deal that if he won he would be pardoned of all crimes and allowed to leave the city.

Before the day of the match arrived, Chris found himself becoming close friends with the city's top scientist, Professor Rose, and together along with her staff they managed to complete Project Celebi, a device that could transplant sight between two people without surgery! The project turned out to be a success after Chris offered the sight in his left eye to give Gardevoir the ability to see the world for the first time via her right!

After this, the time for his showdown with the Warden arrived, and after a lengthy two part battle, Chris turned out the victor with the support of all those attending the event and beyond... To thank them for fighting for his sake, Chris gave Gardevoir, Servine, and Lopunny their own unique names, gaining the titles Serenity, Alicia, and Rose respectively, with Lopunny being named after the professor who had done so much for the group during their stay in the city...

Now, after regaining his freedom and spending a week at Arthur and Angela's massive manor on the outskirts of the city, Chris has finally bid everyone a fond and tearful farewell, having set sail across the sea as a first class passenger aboard the brand new S.S. Guardian, the first pollutant free ship in the world relying solely on solar power reservoirs currently making its way along its maiden voyage on a seven day trip to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the loss of the legendary R.M.S. Arceanic, the unsinkable ship that mysteriously vanished without a trace after messages calling for help were sent one fateful night long, long ago...

A nice slower change of pace again, with a little show of emotion, heh, I'm glad that Chris can finally spend time with the girls once more...and him having a go at the Dusknoir, that was fun to read :p

On the other hand, poor Alicia...I didn't expect her to lose the necklace and badge even after evolving, guess I was assuming that the necklace would still fit around her during evolution...even though I know that going from a little Servine to a long and large Serperior is quite a change. Then it hit me a bit after finishing this chapter that this is more or less the equivalent (and a point towards) the whole " throwing the Jewel of the Ocean back into the sea" scene on Titanic (I'm guessing hehe).

Also finding it pretty funny at Alicia's lashing at Chris with her vines, causing him to "dance around" xD

Looking forward to the (hopeful) recovery of the necklace thanks to Wallace and his little search party...and of course, to whatever is going to happen in the next chapter :)

was hoping they would find it further down her body near her tail were it would still fit around, I do hope it will be found

Nope, due to the size of it being fairly small to fit around Alicia at the time, the expansion of her neck snapped it apart in the ocean during evolution.

I actually hadn't thought about it, but as AOPC mentioned above here, it actually harkens to the Titanic moment where Rose tosses her necklace away.

This was actually unintentional, but hey, things done subconsciously can be the most awesome sometimes.

Some situations require drastic measures, even if you have to use tactics only a kindergartner would use. XD And just few moments ago he had such beautiful words for the girls. Poor girls, as if the Gyarados vomit wasn't gross enough.
I hope Alicia gets back her badge and necklace, just wonder if Chris would be able to repair possible damages, and what he would do if the integrated chip gets damaged.

Getting the Arceus figurehead as a souvenir is not bad. At least now something of the ship remains as a memento among the living. I hope he reconsider sending it to his gramps cabin. I think there are better ways to use it, and Angela would probably help him find an appropriate location. Anyway, Chris would probably appreciate even a bit of coal as a souvenir. ;)

The Dusknoir don't have it easy in life either, held for a hundred years under water to fulfill their job, only to compromise at the end…

Funny how Serenity gets flustered when Chris gets serious, normally she got no problem showing intimacy in public if she initiates it.

As always a great Chapter, keep up the great work!

Edit: I forgot how many days now have passed. Just wonder if they will arrive delayed or too early.
