I was thinking about changing my MLP persona from being a pegasus to being a diamond dog instead.
To be honest, I wasn't overly fond of the diamond dogs as they were presented in the cartoon, making them overly stupid (I actually felt like it was Hasbro taking a cheap shot at the male race).
, and I rather like the way Vavacung depicted the diamond dogs and their culture. (here is where the diamond dog part starts) And I have sort of adopted that culture as my headcannon for the diamond dogs. (so the diamond dogs that appeared in the show are just a particularly dumb pack, and there are others packs of higher intelligence)
Anyway, so I was thinking of making my MLP OC into a diamond dog, rather than a pony. (perhaps have an enchanted accessory that transforms me into a pony, so pony Hericks may still be used on occasion?)
When I was thinking about it, a diamond dog is actually a much better fit for my personality. I like dogs, I tend to have a strong sense of loyalty, when I was young I played in dirt and mud quite often and I liked crawling through tunnels (I actually had secret dens that I tunneled into, usually through hedges, and crawled through storm drain. Tunnels just seemed adventurous to me), and I also have an affinity for shiny rocks and crystals, and have been known to scratch around in the dirt to find some, even to this day! And there are also other things that make the diamond dog a good persona for me... like, I can sometimes work up a pretty good stink, the fact that I don't actually bathe every day (usually every other day ^^; ), as well as some other qualities that you guys may know about *ahembuttsniffingahem*
Some of the advantages of this form is that I would have a supremely heightened sense of smell (much higher than a pony's ), I will have hands with posable thumbs (so I could use tools and weapons, or play an instrument or anything that involves hands, plus I could wear my magic spinner ring again! unfortunately didn't think of that until just now...), I could walk and run on my hind-legs, but also be able to run on all fours if I needed to, and I will have spiked tail that couls be used as a weapon (my headcannon is that the tip of the tail is actually fairly hard and heavy, and that a diamond dog sometimes use it to crack some rocks, though they have to hit it several times)
The main disadvantage would be that I wouldn't be able to fly anymore, however, being an electric engineer technician, I could probably invent a flying contraption, giving me back that ability.
Another thing I like about being a diamond dog, is that there are VERY few others who have made diamond dog OCs! Which will make my OC stand out more, and be more unique.
I decided to give him a vest and collar, since that is the typical attire for the diamond dogs, though I haven't really come up with any specific design for either. for the vest, I may use the vest that I'm actually wearing right now (a relatively simple design), but haven't thought of anything for the collar yet. Maybe i should do a Scooby Doo style collar? XP Perhaps you guys could give me some ideas for the collar, like having studs, jewels, a tag or whatever. One good thing about the collar, is I don't have to stick with just one, since it IS an article of clothing, and could be switched out with different collars.
For the color of my coat, I may change it from the green color to a more greenish-brown, so it can be more of a dog-like color, but my muzzle will still be brown. (I'll have to experiment with it until I come up with something I like)
Oh, and for the ears, I was thinking of having one flopped over, and the other straight up (like in the pic) for when I am casual, but can sometimes alternate, or both be perked when I am attentive, or both flopped over, like if I am tired.
So telly me what you guys think! I rather like the idea myself ^^ And give me some ideas for the collar too!
