A week ago, I went and saw Shaun the Sheep movie and I have to say, I was completely blown away, this has to be on eof the best Aardman movies I have ever seen. Let's start the review

Story: Shaun lives on a farm with a bunch of other sheep and other animals. He is tired of his day to day routines and wants to take a break, which in doing so, gets the Farmer into the big city with a head injury and memory loss to boot. Shaun as well as his rival Bitzer (Dog) goes to try and get him back but also try to avoid the Animal Control officer Trumper who is after any stray animal in the city that could cause trouble. For the most part, the story is pretty simple, kind of what you'd expect from the show, but for the most part, this movie is nicely paced that it is quite easy to understand. That's another thing to. None of the characters don't speak in actual words, just mumbles, and grunts from the humans, and bleats and baa's from the sheep and whatever animal the character is. I'll explain more about this thing later.

Characters: Shaun (Justin Fletcher) Is the main character who is sort of the leader of his flock and wants nothing more then to take a little break from his routine. When he loses the Farmer, he makes it his mission to bring him back even if the way the movie treated the Farmer made it seemed like he never did. Bitzer (John Sparkes, Narrator for Peppa Pig) is the Farmers faithful dog who risks anything to have his master back. He teams up with Shaun to help in the search for him. the Farmer (voiced also by John Sparkes) is the owner of the farm Shaun and the animals live on. After an incident involving him riding in an unhitched trailer down to the big city, he gets nicked in the head and loses his memory and suddenly leaves the hospital and gets tangled up in a new hair salon job where he becomes quite famous. A. Trumper (Omid Djalili, Over the Hedge, Grand Theft Auto) is an over confident Animal Control officer who wants nothing more then to put animals and act cool and professional doing so. What I love most about these characters is that they don't talk like normal people, relying on simple mumbles for speech patterns and such, it captures what made the tv series so great in not having to rely on speaking to tell a story. They all have their parts to play and is quite understandable in the way they act and move that help drive their agendas to the audiences.

Animation: God damn the animation. It's good old Stop-Motion that many of us know from Aardman studios who are known for the Wallace and Gromit series, and Chicken Run. What's great here is that while not one of the characters speak in English, you can tell how they feel in the acting, the facial features and the way they move. This movie proves that animation can tell a story without the need for any dialogue and that's such a rarity in todays society and I love it. A lot of sequences are well animated and really show off what the style is capable of. Characters look on model and have a slight bit of difference then what you commonly see in an Aardman production which is a nice change of pace. All around, its nice to see this, then another typical CGI flick.

Music: The film has this sort of mix of country, suspense, and heart-warming feel to it that can be achieved by none other then Ilan Eshkeri (Kick-Ass, Sims 4, Stardust) His music really helps capture the sense a movie without speaking can really portray. It's charming, it's melodious, and can at times, be quite a thrill ride. This is how you do a soundtrack.

I have to give this movie a 9.5 out of 10 It's rare that a movie like this ever gets this kind of top tier talent to it. I was really not having high hopes for it seeing as how it was based on a television series they made, but this movie goes to show you that you can make an excellent movie based off of a tv show if you have the right writers, animators, and directors working on it. Please go and see this amazing movie, Stop-Motion fans, and Shaun the Sheep fans will not be disappointed. It needs more attention and movies like Fantastic 4 (which was released the same week as it) while even though it was horrendous, are still being watched over Shaun the Sheep. Please, please, PLEASE go watch it.
