A couple weeks ago, during the one week event, I went to see the new Dragon Ball Z movie, and I got to say, I rather enjoyed it, as much so as last years Battle of Gods. Let's hop right into the review.

Story: Frieza has been brought back to life and now wants to exact his revenge on Goku. he trains for a couple of months and goes to confront him with his army, but he's not on earth yet cause Goku and Vegeta are training on the Planet Beerus lives on, with his master Whis. Goku heads to earth with Vegeta to confront Frieza and conquer over him once again. For the most part, the story is pretty solid. It's got your typical fight, exposition, fight, eposition, but it kind of ends rather quickly for the most part. If anything, this would make for a great series of long episodes. For the most part, its nicely told and that's not a problem for me.

Characters: Their isn't really any new characters that I can talk about other then Sorbet and Jaco who (for the most part) I have no knowledge about since I haven't watched too much of the series to know all of the characters. for the most part Sorbet (Jeremy Schwartz) is the alien behind the whole resurrection of his lord Frieza and does everything he can in convincing Palif, Mai, and Shu (The dog, blue alien, and girl kid characters, again, don't know much about ^^;) to let him use the Dragon Balls to bring Frieza back. Jaco is a galatic patrol man who was sent by his people to warn of Frieza's return. For the most part he's just kind of a comic relief being kind of a nervous type but really could handle himself in a skirmish. I feel I must bring up the three characters who really help make this film what it is. First off, Frieza, who is voiced by the ever talented Chris Ayres, (seriously, am I the only one who was surprised to see what he looked like in the pre show?) is just as grim and an all around sociopath as ever bringing that old sense of the funny man, while at the same time delivering it in the most calm and controlled way possible but then starts to lose his cool and just feel all around menacing and I love that. Next we have Beerus and Whis, whom I love from the Battle of Gods, and they basically are the Trolls of the movie, only coming down to wacth Goku and Frieza's battle while gorging themselves on the Sunday that Bulma offered them and being critical and quite observative. Frieza is quite shocked and scared the Beerus is their, but is assured that he has no intentions to get in the way of his fight with Goku and Vegeta. You just get that all around feeling that you know if even Frieza fears him, then you don't want to mess with Beerus. after all, he is the Destroyer of Worlds, and Whis, his trainer is (Spoiler from Battle of Gods) is stronger then him (Spoiler from Battle of Gods) All around, I love these characters and I hope they come back in the near future.

Animation: Once again we are treated to some really good traditional hand drawn animation with some nice detail and computer shading techniques. Now while their was some times where we could see the characters done in CGI, it was done up so that they looked as detailed as their hand drawn counterparts, a bit of cel-shading if you will, and it never once felt to distracting. Action sequences were fast and intense and you could feel every impact with the punches, kicks and wave blasts and that's what you should all around expect from a Dragon Ball Z movie.

Music: once again Norihito Sumitomo (Battle of Gods) brings his DBZ beats to this movie to help us get into the mood. High action guitar rifts, choral numbers for serious moments, and just that all around musical spirit that help set the mood for an over the top violent movie.

all in all, I'd say this movie gets a 8 out of 10. It's another great iteration in the Dragon Ball Z lore that delivers with fan service (like Frieza returning) laughs, and great high action sequences that would make any Dragon Ball Z fan happy.

Yep, I was in the mood to have him be it considering how I went about with my review pictures last year, either have me mimic the characters or draw them as Care Bear like creatures like my Minions review drawing.
