PART 2: BAT WINGS

*After watching how the President and Commander Tower suggested Sonic to get vacations and let them handle the world’s problems in their way, we now go to the next scenario.*

Eggmanland. The city has evolved into something Eggman or Sonic and friends could never imagine, even if Eggman wanted an evil empire of robots at first. The city was constructed in the middle of the sea. The only way to get to it is to travel in car by its underwater highway or use its air transporter (flying ships only used to move robots and big pieces of metal). The city is powered by 3 super batteries, each of them are rare and expensive. Eggman placed an energy bubble barrier surrounding the city as a mechanism to keep it safe, and only authorized machines can enter through it, Sonic left it deactivated after messing around, and a family van was able to enter. Since then, the Eggman empire is now a safe place to live, it’s new citizens has taken parts of the big machine buildings as homes, and are now about to open it’s first school.
The jobs Eggmanland citizens do are based on making the city a better place for living creatures (humans, squirrells, hedgehogs…) instead of robots. Some of them insisted in working on Eggman’s robot workshops for making robots that could protect the city and keep clean the streets and homes, Eggman’s projects has been focused on this lately, even if it’s not what he actually wanted XD. Some other people has started to discuss with Eggman what to do about the citizen’s basic needs such as food and entertainment. Eggman has made a lot of decisions lately…. He even forgot to work on more evil plans.

<It’s nightime in Eggmanland. The city’s bright lights can be seen from a long distance. There are robots and people walking in the streets. In the main workshop, Eggman has just arrived to it, Shadow the Hedgehog was waiting for him.

-Sorry to keep you waiting- said the Doctor a little bit tired and in a bad mood- This lady is about to bring the first born baby in Eggmanlad and I needed to create machines that could take care of everything…  *grunts* I am a science doctor, not a medic!!.

The black hedgehog said nothing. He and Rouge just came out from the Gouverment’s Prison for Threatening Creatures (GPTC), Rouge was still handling tons of papers in the G.U.N. HQ. Shadow was there to get his feet replaced for a better pair, since his rocket shoes were destroyed some time ago.
Dr. Eggman asked him why he wanted him to remake them. It seems the Ultimate Life Form’s papers says that he can only be modified by the Robotnik family members.

The Doctor started to work in them as he said:
-We uh… … I got an invitation from the family, they will make a dinner next week.
Shadow crossed his arms, and kept his serious face. Shadow also knew about the invitation Eggman received for Sonic’s Award Party this weekend but he said nothing about it.
-….so?
-SO?! YOU ARE MY GRANDPA’S SON!! THAT MAKES YOU PART OF THE FAMILY!!
-……do you want me to go?
-YES!! WHY WOULD I TELL YOU IF NOT?! *grunts**grunts**grunts*
Shadow thought about it for a moment.
-…I didn’t know there are more Robotnik people.
Eggman made an angry noise.
-You never wondered about Maria’s mother? Or MY mother’s mother? Or my mother’s dad, in this case Professor Gerald? OF COURSE THERE ARE MORE ROBOTNIK PEOPLE.
-Now that you mention it… -said Shadow, a little bit concerned about this.- I know nothing about the Robotnik family… I almost don’t know my creator at all.
-WELL. Seems we will both be here for a while, so why don’t I tell you about it? –Said while taking some tools from another table- Before building the ARK, Gerald was married to a woman called Lucy. Even if my grandfather’s marital skills weren’t the best, ending the marriage some years later, they had two daughters: MY mother and Maria’s.

Eggman was now putting metal scraps together, making so much noise, but not being bothered enough to stop talking. He seemed a little bit more relaxed while doing it.
-They weren’t very close to Gerald though, and they didn’t approve Gerald’s life as a scientist… and my mother never approved MINE as well. –he made a little pause.- Some years after that he went to spend the rest of his life up in the ARK, and as far as I can see, he never told you about your older sisters! –He laughed –But Maria somehow got to live with him and you –continued-  I don’t know the story behind this…
Eggman was taking notes on Shadow’s legs length. The Hedgehog kept his attention in the Doctor’s words, he was right, he never really thought about the Robotnik family until now. Then he thought about something:
-If they never approved my father’s science life… -he looked at Eggman - …means they didn’t like me?
-That is completely right! –said the Doctor with enthusiasm. –My mother seemed pretty upset when she saw you in the news back when the rest of the world confused you with SONIC.
Shadow was surprised, and a little bit uncomfortable to think Eggman has a mother… who hates him. Then he thought about something else.
-Does the rest of the family hate me? since my making was the cause of the tragedy in the ARK?
-Well WHO KNOWS! No one ever mentioned you!!
The Hedgehog felt even more uncomfortable.
-And yet you want me to go to a family dinner with you….
Eggman made a shrug.
-They are nice people!! Even if they never agreed with my plans… *grunts even more* Most of all of them are scientists too. And why we never hear of them? BECAUSE THEY LIKE TO KEEP IT AS A SECRET!
-…unlike you.
-YES, EXACTLY. YOU’LL see you’ll love them all… -then he started to focus more on the thing he was doing to Shadow’s new Rockets, which were about to be finished.

After some minutes of silence, Eggman was giving the last touch to his new invention: an updated pair of Rocket Shoes for the Ultimate Life Form. Now the only thing he needed to do was to put them on Shadow, which may be a little difficult. Shadow got ready, but all by sudden, the lights in the workshop turned off.
-HUM? WHAT HAPPENED TO THE ELECTRICITY? –Said while running to the light switch in the wall and turning it off an on repeatedly without making a difference in the dark room.- Something must be wrong with one of the Main batteries… … … THE CITY!!
Eggman ran outside, leaving Shadow there without thinking about it. Some of the Eggmanland’s citizens were a little bit confused since the electricity left suddenly just in that part of the city.

Shadow sighed and relaxed. He had no other choice but wait there. After some minutes he started to feel very impatient. Then he heard a familiar noise: the sound bat wings do when they fly. In the dark room, he was still able to see a shadow move around the ceiling. It WAS a bat, Shadow thought it was Rouge.
-Are you the Ultimate Life Form? –said the unknown voice, sounded femenine. Shadow knew she was talking to him, but he said nothing, trying to see her face.
-We should team up.- This figure disappeared into the void a second after, Shadow tried to follow the noise with his ears, but the noise faded quickly, Shadow was confused. A second after, Eggman entered back in the workshop followed by a couple of persons carrying candles, one was a tall man in a white coat and the other one was a woman. Shadow decided not to speak until Eggman and him were alone.
-ONE OF THE MAIN BATTERIES WAS STOLEN!! –said the Doctor, very angry. –HOW?! IT’S HIGHLY PROTECTED NOT ONLY BY ROBOTS, BUT BY PEOPLE TOO!!!
-What should we do?! We need to monitor Lala and her baby tonight! –said the man in the white coat. Seems he is a medic.
Doctor Eggman scratched his head, thinking more about the battery’s loss than in the pregnant woman.
-We just move her to another sector of the city! The other batteries are still there, golly! –said the woman in a preocupied voice.
-YES, YES DO THAT! –yelled Eggman waving both hands in the air.- And if you find any problems with it, LET ME KNOW AS FAST AS YOU CAN, I need to check the cameras with Cubot!
The other two persons left immediately to attend the issue, while Eggman was still walking in circles around the room, very upset, using a small control in his watch on his left wrist to call his little yellow robot. It was the first time Shadow saw Eggman directly interact with other humans...

The Doctor talked with Cubot using his watch as a radio, Cubot sounded to be clumsy as always. Eggman yelled at him a couple of times for being so silly. Shadow even thought the doctor completely forgot he was in the room too, and he felt slightly embarrassed.
-A BAT STOLE THE BATTERY! –concluded Eggman after a long conversation with Cubot. –OF COURSE, WHO ELSE CAN VIOLATE SOPHISTICATED SECURITY SYSTEMS OTHER THAN ROUGE?!?! –he seemed pretty angry with the bat girl, he threw a little tantrum. Shadow knew it wasn’t Rouge.
-Rouge doesn’t have reasons to steal a battery. She…
-OF COURSE NOT! DOES SHE HAVE A REASON TO STEAL JEWELS TOO? NO! aarrrrgggggggg I always knew that bat was a problem… !!
-It wasn’t Rouge who did it. –said Shadow harshly.
-THEN WHO?!
Shadow didn’t know the answer, so he said nothing.

That same night, meanwhile in Westopolis, Sonic was sneaking into… his mom’s house… [Continues in Part 3]
