Looks as inviting as a ruin in Chernobyl.

Apparently there is enough gamma energy to send the geiger counters screeching, tho not like the level you would get blapped with by dismantling a reactor code going critical, with your bare hands (one guy had to do just that and died soon after, beyond help, to prevent a total holocaust.).

Lost my comment in progress ! Hit the wrong key !

It is said that if the gamma energy was intense enough, you would SEE it as a crawling fire. That would also cause imevitable death within 1 minute ! Be sure to have rehearsed your death speech so you won't waste the precious seconds giving your report !

There was in Chernobyl's wrecked reactor, a hideous formation known as -the Elephant's Foot. Death was almost immediate if approached, even with protective gear, and it also roasted a remote controlled camera sent in to photograph it. They had to wait for its gamma fire to drop to managable level.

There is NO way you can make a radio-active substance hold its radiation in,or get rid of it in one burst. It does not obey the laws of physics we sense.

Hmm, The Elephant's Foot was something I had never heard of before. Quite interesting actually..even if it is deadly.

It was also called - the Medusa as glimpsing it caused instant death, Baked by its own radiation, it eventually began to crumble. A chunk was obtained then. Solidified but radioactive  lava was also found clogging pipes. The reactor had meltdowned into a mineral they dubbed - coreite.
 COREite,
