Jack bot and Borderlands references were due to one of the stream viewers while I was stuck at work. XD but I was imagining a robot somewhat similar to a loader anyway.
Combat among the Vesh'relmaru is far different then most races... specially among the clan Still Waters. They specialize in two forms of major combat with the first being an "in your face rip your opponents to shreds and cause confusion". In some ways it's like your typical Kung fu movie where the hero faces dozens of opponents at once. Only said hero has mithril infused bones (quirk of evolution), denser skeletal structure, and the savagery of a dragon. Due to the fact that their claws are made of raw mithril (more so then their bones as it constraints in the claws the most) they can grab and rip at enemies and throw them into others. This style has a lot of invasion of personal space. ;p
The second style is more like hit and run guerrilla tactics. Due to those same claws they can climb walls and suspend from ceilings with ease (a trait that came from evolution) much like the Alien in... well Alien's franchise. :p The species has no concept of claustrophobia due to their more primitive ancestor's being better seen as "land sharks" in sand and burrowing into rock cliffs with their acid spray/breath.
The reason I say never survived... well a race that spends most of it's time hiding it's tech from others... well let's just say they have developed their tactics to be ninja esc "I'm in your base killing your guys, before you even know what's going on". Many times it's teams of 6 kitted with gear that meets their specific roles and suits customized to their every need. Most invaders are pirates and scum trying to make a quick buck off a underworld bounty placed on capturing live Vesh'Relmaru or any of their tech. Most are fools that don't understand when they hear the strange crackle over their systems... "The black wind howls, and one more is devoured."
The Black Wind is a reference to an ancient pirate kingdom founded by Jakob Galespy. He was once a star cartographer and several old research notes indicated that he may have figured out how to navigate the what was at the time called "wild space" a sector where all forms of FTL, navigation, and logic seemed to just give up. In some ways it's the Bermuda triangle of space... later to be discovered as the Vesh'Relmaru's little sector of space. Jakob founded an empire inside this sector and lead one of hte largest known and most lucritive empires known for pirates... then one day everything vanished. the beacons to lead other ships... the com beacons for communications... nothing. nearly a century later Jakobs flag ship was found floating out of the sector by a salvage company. It was in pristine condition like it'd just left space dock, in the mess was food and coffee still hot from breakfast, tools laid out for maintenance, rooms that looked like someone had just gotten out of bed with the shower still running. not a single life aboard the ship. Not a single item missing from the inventory, but the ships computer was reset to factory default... all the star charts gone... all the nav data up until the moment the salvages found her gone. Just one message was scrawled in blood on the wall. "The black wind howls, and claims those foolish enough to fight against it." The blood was Jakob Galespy's.
the legend of the black wind brings chills to any spacer who may hear the phrase crackle over their speakers if they get to close to "wild space"....
