The supernatural species of giant spider responsible for this can't produce strong enough webbing to support its own weight, so it seeks out...building materials...
If you're captured by one of the larger types of this spider, it'll completely cover you with a special sticky substance that somehow softens your body for a short while, making it easy to stretch and fold and stick your helpless form together until you resemble a living spider web for your captor and it's babies. And worse, once the substance covering your body dries, it can be very difficult to tell you apart from other non-living webs.
Fortunately for him, the transformative substance covering him will eventually fade...though how long that takes...is anyone's guess...
