I've never been to a furcon of any kind, and I've been a visitor to inkbunny for a few years now. I've become acquainted with various contributors here and their points of view. Seeing your picture here, it made me think of something. I am guessing that you have been to a few furcons on occasion, so do you ever get the impression that some of the visitors are only there to see the "freaks in their fur costumes"; i. e., tourists gawking at the dedicated fans? It was just the impression I got from the fellow with the camera, I tried to imagine whether such a scenario happens from time to time. I suppose other fursuit wearers have similar stories that they could relate. Something similar to what you might see at a theme park with the character staff, like Mickey Mouse for example.

I m a very public fursuiter. I go to con and I suit at normal public events and church events.  There are not a whole lot of people who go to cons just to gawk at the fursuiters, I imagine there have been some from time to time, but over all it is not an issue. Now other furries go to gawk at fursuiters, but that is another story.  Suiters LOVE to have their picture taken and the public loves to get right in there with the picture.  I personally never had a problem being in suit, even in Las Vegas, most loved to humor me.  Not all suiters are freaks. Most of us are pretty much mascots of our own characters.  It is very very rare that i run into an hateful comment.  Usually its "what does the fox say" lol..

When I was suiting in Chicago,,,, people were offering me money to get their picture with me. I was surprised. I had to laugh.  Some people see us as mere street performers.

A non fur, most of the time is pretty easy to spot. Most of the time they are curious and want to know what is going on.

In every segment of society there are those the lean towards off color and fetish based motifs. The exist from wealthy business people to the average church goer.  What people do behind their doors is frankly none of my business.  However look at this way.

A girl walks down the street.  Mini skirt, low cut shirt, high heals, fake nails, hair done...making up on.  You see this in malls every day..  she is selling herself sexually everywhere she goes.  She wants to wear what she wants, but not be touched or even commented on.. but it still says..  "tramp"   the same goes for a man,   he could be an average person on the street.... but tattoo up and down his body.   Frankly I think the fursuits are modest by comparison.
