Name: Strength
Numeral: VIII (Rider)
Zodiacal Trump of: Leo
Hebrew Letter: Teth (serpent)
Tree of Life: The warrior on the path between Chesed and Geburah.
Concept: Energy contracted tightly and ready to be released forcefully.
This is an alternate version of the Lust card also in the Major Arcana. You can use the deck with Strength and Peace or Lust and Balance or all the cards for a completely new experience.
Description: An anthropomorphic rabbit dressed in blue and wearing a medallion sits atop a reigned lion on a bright and beautiful summer day.
Character: The rabbit has learned to domesticate the lion. Here we see the ambition of trying out new things as morals and mercy tame savage beasts.
The Sun pendant signifies the rabbit's nature as a tomboy, a female of action instead (though still capable) of meditation and understanding. The blue clothing symbolises meditation and Justice while also drawing on the tomboy nature of the rider (baby blue as opposed to jewel blue).
The red of the reigns and string of the pendant symbolise passion. The reigns and strings themselves symbolise belonging and control.
The lion and the Sun pendant are both symbols of the astrological sign Leo. Out of the twelve signs, only Leo is associated with the Sun. The bright daylit background reminds us of heatwaves and summer sky. It illuminates, shedding light on the scene.
The lion as a beast is a symbol of the Daemon, the first we've seen on the Fool's Journey. Thus far, the Teachers have done their best to protect the Fool from straying onto distracting paths. For the first time, the Trickster has encountered temptation and believes it's in control of a new situation. For the first time the lion/Daemon is being controlled and bound and the lion likes the freedom from choice.
This is a card of being prepared, showing mercy, trying new things, holding ground, belonging.
The position of rider and steed was chosen as it is very similar to the Lust version of this card.
Here the rider is controlling through virtues associated with the generous life giving Sun. The lion is being controlled and it’s happy about it because of the morals of the rider. The lion trusts the rider will not lead them both into harm.
The rider is stronger than she needs to be. Her force drives little miracles to happen regularly.
Her schooling could only take her so far and now she she goes forth into the world to interact with society on her terms, choosing which morals to stand by and what experiences she would like to learn. She thinks she’s in control. The secret of the reigns of the lion is similar to the secret of the chains of the Daemon. In both cases, it is the meek who is in control.
Meaning: Venturing forth eager to try new things, prepared only with stories of morality and a lust for adventure.
Notes: The Daemon takes many forms and here it has become a symbol associated with royalty--the lion--, but is still a beast and considered a lower creature when compared to man. Savage in nature tamed by mercy. This card is part of the Daemon's trap, part of its false promises. This is a card of the rider's modest, quiet inner strength.
