Serid stared quietly up at the night's sky, contemplating many things. His stomach; thin from hunger, body begining to just.. give up.
"There's no point in fighting it anymore. I'm not useful to anyone now. I'm a broken plaything,  and they've thrown me away.." He said in his raspy voice, ears falling back despite the hustle and bustle right next to him of everyday life of people in this city. Not one glance. Not one was spared for this poor soul.
After spending 15 years of his life Committed to his government, the local militia. His family and friends. Everything fell apart after the war. And after he'd lost more than 30% of his body fighting for the very people now not giving a damn about him rotting in their back sewers. He didn't hate them. Or his wife that had abandoned him or those that shunned him. There was no point anymore.
"I'm done...  I don't want to be here anymore.." He sighed out staring up again...

"At least I have the stars.."
This was really a touch and go thing for me. I don't DO vent art really but this is what came out when I started drawing. It's likely I'll never finish this or work on it again.

It's the way things tend to go, isn't it? Fight for your country and then meh, we don't need you anymore.

And George Grosz did a pic of legless men in little carts rowing themselves around, past a store selling artificial limbs - for prices the legless men could NOT afford.

Grosz did many works on Germany suffering the ills brought on by fighting -and losing- WWI.
Eventually they led to WWII.
The Jews were blamed for jacking up prices so people had to do without .

I had something else to say, but my brain is old and the thought fled me even as I started to key it in...

I stumbled upon a painting by Otto Dix and I only saw it before as a wall exhibit in a Dada exhibiition. The complete unobstructed untruncated pic of the painting was far worse than what I recalled. The title, appropiately was "war cripples".

You'll find it in Google Images. Key in "Otto Dix" and don't say I didn't warn you.
