Ooo, my brother did this once with me in the car. But i bet youve never done this buddy.^^
graymuzzle
5 years, 10 months ago
Sure I did. And the rescue effort claimed more casualties than the incident itself.

Agreed. Tina thanks you for your support.

Especially in a stick shift right off the bat. Should have used an automatic for begginer lessons.
istolethisname
5 years, 10 months ago
there goes ray's car D: i can hear ray now "it's ok tina it was your first time driving." all the while comforting her. maybe it would been easier to teach tina with a automatic over a stick shift.
graymuzzle
5 years, 10 months ago
That's the problem! We try to idiot proof the world. Tina will survive, as will Ray's ancient Golf with a million miles on it.

Remembers me to my mom and my dad as she said to him she wants to drive agains since she has a drivers licence for over 30 years now but didn´t used it all the time. First time she drove with my dad ended in a little crash onto a house wall. X)

But seeing poor Tina cry makes me sad.
graymuzzle
5 years, 10 months ago
Awwwww. Tina will be fine.
Did your Mom drive again?
jorun1981

Yes she drives for a few years again now. I did train with her since my dad was mad with her after the crash.

And like Tina, I learned on a stick shift.

i meant making mistakes while learning something new. i didnt crash my car either but i fucked up a lot while learning.
DanteRageWolfington
5 years, 10 months ago
so far I haven't made any mistakes while learning to drive, than again I've only had 3 chances, so, eh, to be honest its a matter of PAYING ATTENTION, no?
graymuzzle
5 years, 10 months ago
90% of driving is paying attention. The actual operation of the car becomes reflexive very quickly.
graymuzzle

Naw, Ray is laid back.

i've killed four cars, blew an engine in one (still haven't figured that one out yet considering the circumstances), locked another one down, and crashed two.. i know how she feels :P
graymuzzle
5 years, 10 months ago
No fun! I blew an engine a few years ago. It was old, and I was running too much boost, and I was pushing it hard on a 100 degree day.
Shadow55419
5 years, 10 months ago
i wasn't even pushing, just finished cleaning out the radiator and putting everything back together and kaput when the whole bloomin thing. *shrugs*

ahhh any crash you can walk away from....   the last time this happened to me I pulled back onto the road (after mowing down a dozen sappliings) turned to my passenger and said "that didn't happen"

Tina it'll be okay
graymuzzle
5 years, 10 months ago
Absolutely. Any crash you walk away from is a good outcome.
beirirangu
5 years, 10 months ago
at that point, I would start politely laughing and say something along the lines of, "at least we know what NOT to do now" and of course take apropriate actions based on how she reacts:
if she's starting to laugh with me, I'd comically tell her that it wasn't THAT bad and maybe get in some tips
if she's serious and crying, then stop and comfort her and tell her that it wasn't as bad as my first time driving, and maybe get in some tips
graymuzzle
5 years, 10 months ago
I think you got it right. Tina is smart, athletic and well coordinated. Unlike other dogs, she HAS opposable thumbs. So, she'll do fine.
FurCollector

This event was predictable <<'
graymuzzle
5 years, 10 months ago
Well, I can't always pull stuff out of left field.
deranged
5 years, 10 months ago
Having driven standard myself, STALLING would be predictable. This is just really bad instructions on Ray's part letting her get the rev's high enough to make the car bolt like that.
graymuzzle
5 years, 10 months ago
Maybe a smack upside the head?
CodieCub
5 years, 10 months ago
Awww, poor  baby doll it's okay, it was just some bushes, no biggie, they will grow back

On one hand, I want to console Tina with hugs.

On the other... I'm bad for wanting to laugh so hard.

Both are understandable. If it's a stranger, and they're not injured, you laugh.

awe i had my fingers crossed so this WOULDN'T happen. *sigh* well car looks ok and they both are safe. Bushes will look funny for a really long time but eh. now she know that "pedal to the metal" only happens in movies.... and sponge bob. Maybe they should have sat down together and watched some sponge bob, She would have learned everything she should not do. including this old favorite.
graymuzzle

graymuzzle

I'd qualify it that way!
ElfenSciuridae
5 years, 10 months ago
Its only a bush. Which probably killed the engine. Which needs to be say, will the car need a "Push, push in the bush?"

They've already been there....
ElfenSciuridae
5 years, 10 months ago
*Thumbs up!* You got the reference!
ruink
5 years, 10 months ago
congratulations you insurance rates just went up.

this wouldn't have happened with automatic transmission
graymuzzle
5 years, 10 months ago
True, but what fun would THAT be?
ruink
5 years, 10 months ago
the fun of not having to worry about downshifting before crashing.

but seriously, did you have a bad experience with a car that had an automatic transmission?
graymuzzle
5 years, 10 months ago
Yes. They're slow, expensive to buy, and it's usually the first major component to fail. I can change a clutch, or put a whole new transmission in the car if I need to.
ruink
5 years, 10 months ago
slow... ouch.  and for sake of the argument, what's the top speed on this car?
graymuzzle
5 years, 10 months ago
It's a late nineties VW Golf; a base model. Maybe 115 new, much less I reccon, with a million miles and no maintenance. Maybe a hundred.
ruink
5 years, 10 months ago
115 isn't bad, poor guys needs a Jetta... either way, it's time for a pat on the back
graymuzzle
5 years, 10 months ago
Eventually, we'll get Ray a new car, but there are a lot of others things ahead....

Hey, Tin, mind if I call you Tin?

Tin, it's okay, accidents happen.

It was your first time, you were excited.

Hey, I would be to if I were in your shoes.

The important thing is that nobody was hurt: you're fine, Ray's fine.

A few shrubs may be a bit bent out of shape, but they'll grow back.

Besides, it could have been worse: you could have crashed into a river or pool.

But you didn't, so everything's going to be fine.

*hugs Tina* Accidents happen, it'll be alright.

Winterfeline

I can feel for the folks there. After getting my driver's license a friend of mine got me to drive his car at night on a sandy road, not exactly a great idea but we had been out driving and chatting (he was driving, mainly) and on a stop he popped open a can of beer, telling me that he's going to want to see me driving us home.

Suffice to say, dark night, sandy road and a tight downhill curve later the car was dented and we had to call the cops for the moment. They did a quick check and said it was a "beginner's mistake" in my driving, warned me about doing something like that again, and then put the paperwork forth for the insurance company.

Thing cost me about a hundred euros then I think, and after that the only thing that remains is playful teasing by the guy that he got a new car because I turned the wheel the wrong way when the sandy road caused us to be sliding in the curve.

Uh, yeah, accidents happen, and figure a lot of folks have 'just one' in their records these days. Thankfully never repeated that or done anything else that stupid in a car. Just learned to never drive a car you're not used to in a situation that isn't exactly in your comfort zone. (I was still a very rookie driver)
graymuzzle
5 years, 10 months ago
Cool story! Alcohol can't have helped, though.
Winterfeline
5 years, 10 months ago
Well thing is, my friend drove us there, and then began to drink. I was stone cold sober, which is why I had to drive back. That was the whole point to him, he 'encouraged me' to drive by having a drink himself, so I wouldn't really want him driving back.

If I had any alcohol in my blood and crashed the car there would've been very little chances that the insurance company would have paid for that after all.

So no alcohol for me there, just a beginner's mistake.
graymuzzle
5 years, 10 months ago
Good. Hopefully your friend didn't do any more driving that night.

Lets just hope that they didn't drive on the public road and still on private land else the insurance wouldn't cover the damages .. even if ray is loaded..

in hind sight it is ray who is to blame not tina the poor dear must have had the scare of her life.
next time just hire a professional instructor.

Learning how to drive manual sucks. Once you get it though, it's like riding a bike.
graymuzzle

True! I've been driving manuals transmissions all my life Everything from a Corvette to a 25 foot box truck.
Mayfield
5 years, 10 months ago
Only been driving manual for just about a year and a half and it just feels normal. But now driving automatic is weird for me! I'll spend five minutes trying to find the clutch with my foot only to realize there isn't one. What? What do you mean I don't have to shift gears? What kind of black magic is this!?!! oAo;
graymuzzle
5 years, 10 months ago
I'll still press the clutch when I stop the Jaguar, even though it doesn't have one. Just instinct.
