Chapter 2
We are both shocked and confused, and realize we are high up in a tree. We are freaked out and I start raging to the men asking what they want from us but they both remain silent as if nothing is happening.
We look around to see a hidden city here up in the trees. The men look at us with their focus on a wooden box that looked like it could have been a house or maybe a store. They look deeply into our eyes and everything goes black and fuzzy.
We slowly awaken to find that we are in an old wooden shack. We panic, wondering where we are, and try looking around and sneaking out. But then we find stairs and are suddenly curious, so we quietly start climbing them.
We are now wearing rough rags for clothing that is too big for us, and we have no shoes. The stairs are rough and splintering but all we want is to get to the top.
When we get there we do not see much. It appears to possibly be an old bedroom. But when we turned around, the men were there. Shocked, we scattered around, but they just stood there. I wonder what they want, but I then remember what the blarg had said: “Those men can’t be controlled by us, and by the looks of it, neither can your friend.”
I slowly approach the men while still keeping some distance between us and quietly ask, “Who are you?” but they do not answer. Confused Erica stares at me, frozen in place, as I keep my knowledge of the blarg’s words to myself and ask the men again, a bit louder this time, “Who are you?”
The men still remain silent for several moments, until finally one begins to speak. His English is poor but we could still understand him. “We are the Serinas, two of the four left here. I am Sam, and he is Jack. The blarges and grudges can’t climb so we have made our home in the trees. The four remaining are the only people who can’t be controlled…but now we have found her.” They both slowly begin pointing at Erica.
Sam tries convincing Erica to come with them but she refuses to leave me, and so the men oblige and let us both come along on their journey. They also agree that once we all find the fourth, Erica and I will be able to go home. We eagerly agree and leave the fort together with new purpose.
