"Unseen companion"

With some goggles and swim trunks on, that lizard swam out into the ocean a bit and dove below, fully ready to enjoy some time below the waves - and running a little experiment alongside that. He spent a good hour out there, exploring the seabed, blowing bubbles, and sometimes just relaxing on the bottom. A few times he'd also push his breath holding ability, spending close to 10 minutes underwater before finally resurfacing.

Eventually, as he grew a little bit bored, the lizard returned to shore, drying off and heading home. Once he arrived, the first thing he did was check his phone. Sure enough, as always, he'd been texted several images from an anonymous number, and as he looked through them, he confirmed that his experiment had worked; a few showed him on his swim, accompanied by the usual skull-headed wolflike creature that hadn't been present in the moment. These strange pictures had begun being sent months ago, not long after the lizard had downloaded an odd app called "MalO ver1.0.0" that had seemingly disappeared afterward. It'd very much freaked him out at first, seeing that creature in pictures of places he'd visited as if it were tracking him - especially when the pictures started having it be in the room with him - but he'd gotten used to it, now assuming the creature itself was somehow sending those and simply wanted to be friends.

He took a good look at the pictures featuring him and the creature underwater. Like him, it was wearing trunks and goggles, and was generally joining him in whatever he'd happened to be doing in the moment. Its puffed cheeks brought a thought to the lizard's mind, and after quickly looking through more pictures, he confirmed that it also needed to breathe, as one picture had happened to be sent while he was pushing his breath holding and the creature looked as strained as he did.

As he looked through at all the pictures of his odd companion having retroactively joined his swim, another picture came in: Himself looking at his phone, with the creature beside him looking at it as well, smiling. The lizard smiled too, and didn't bother to check whether it was actually there - he knew it wouldn't be. Still, he appreciated the company it was trying to give.

squirtlerocks07 and I did an RP based on this.

S: after coming from a dive, a lizard was checking his phone as he looked at pictures being sent by a random number of this Wolf like creature, they weren't bothered by it after a while. Then a machoke which was one of the lizard's friends came to the beach and happened to see his buddy there on his phone, he went over to him with a smile
"Hey dude! Its been a bit, what are you up to?"

L: The lizard quickly puts his phone away, knowing the machoke would very much be weirded out by seeing those messages. "Good to see you again! I was just checking out some... Weird pictures a friend of mine sent. You probably wouldn't be that interested, and they honestly might creep you out a little."

S: "Creep me out? Do you know who your talking to? I don't get weirded out easily by stuff, show me these pictures I'm curious, it can't be that bad, ive seen worse"

L: "Right, yeah, you're kind of into that stuff... Well, um..." The lizard thinks about it for a moment, then gets his phone back out. "I suppose you'd probably be the best person to be the first I show these to, and I shouldn't just keep this to myself. Here." He shows the machoke one of the pictures.

The picture shows the lizard swimming underwater alongside some kind of black-furred wolf person, with said wolf's skull exposed. Neither it nor the lizard are obviously the one that took the picture.

S: "Whoa, hold on who's that...wolf swimming with you? Is it a friend of yours? It didnt look like you took that picture either and you don't seem to acknowledge each other"

it was a little weird for the machoke and was mildly uncomfortable but tried not to show that

L: "It's hard to explain, I don't fully understand it... That wolf doesn't seem to exist, but I do consider them a friend. They edit themselves into pictures of me so it looks like they're hanging out with me. As for where the pictures come from, I have no idea, there's been ones I definitely would've seen someone taking and there was no one there."

S: "Interesting... so like they are your imaginary friend in some way, since they don't seem to exist and all, but those photos made it seem like that they are real... this is confusing"

L: "Yeah, it really doesn't make sense... This started when I downloaded a certain app, and it's way too advanced to be a virus. Even with the camera covered, it always knows what I'm doing and makes those pictures based on that."

S: "Hmm, its certainly creepy getting stalked like this, but maybe this Wolf actually does wanna friends and stuff, I wish they were real so we could meet it"
just then, the machoke sees something on the lizard's phone
"Hey you got a message"

L: "Oh, yep, I do. It's anonymous, so it's either them or spam..." The lizard opens the message. All that's in it is a single picture, of the lizard and the machoke looking at the lizard's phone, with the skull-headed wolf standing behind them and waving to the machoke.

S: "What the heck? Is that...us looking at your phone? That Wolf, its behind us and waving..."
the machoke was a little freaked out by this, and then he turns around quickly

L: "Relax, it's not really there, it never is."

But, when the machoke turns around, there it is. It looks nervous, unsure how the machoke is going to react.

S: "Uhhh... your wrong this time buddy, turn around..." the machoke was stunned as he looked at that this wolf, scared and shocked at the same time

L: "...What?" The lizard turns as well, and jumps a little at the sight of the wolf. "O-okay, this is new! It's shown up before, but never like this!"

The wolf speaks in a somewhat growly voice. "S-sorry, didn't mean to scare you... Not good at talking in person..."

S: "Oh my... this is...something else, I don't know if I should be freaked out or not...a-are you friendly?"

L: Wolf: "I like to consider that I am, but... I always end up scaring people, and it never really ends well from there. But..." They look at the lizard. "You're different, and your friend seems to be the same way. You were scared at first, but now you're mostly not."

Lizard: "...I-it was a rough start, yeah... Now though, I do actually look forward to your messages."

S: "Its definitely a creepy way to try and talk with someone, but I guess since your kind of shy then its understandable"
the machoke takes a tentative step forward to the wolf
"Do you got a name i could call you?"

L: Wolf: "Your friend's been calling me Malo, and I didn't really have a name before that, so... Malo."

Lizard: "I guess you really have been hearing me then... Well, good to finally confirm that as your name."

S: "Well, nice to meet you Malo... my name is Sean, never would have guessed you be real... my lizard friend here was just showing me pictures of you guys going underwater, heh...maybe you guys could do that for reals now that we know your real"

L: Lizard: "And I guess you probably already know my name is Keith. It'd be nice to actually truly swim with you, the closest we've gotten to that has been those pictures."

Malo: "I've never really hung out with anyone before, I've only ever just put myself into pictures... So, yeah, that'd be great!"

S: "A swim sounds really nice then, I could go for a swim myself, ill help keep me in shape, heh"
Sean pulls out a pair of goggles and sets them on his forehead
"By the way, Malo how long can you hold your breath?"

L: Malo: "As long as Keith can, actually. So, just under 10 minutes." They get some goggles on as well, seemingly getting them out of nowhere.

Keith: "Guess that makes things easy to remember!" He puts on goggles too.

S: "Heh, my best is 15 minutes, so I have you two beat, but its been a bit since ive set that record, so who knows? Anyways, ready to go diving?"
Sean gestures to the ocean ahead of them

L: Keith: "Yep, ready!"

Malo: "This'll be neat, it's been a long time since I truly did any swimming instead of just putting myself into pictures underwater." The two start heading for the water.

S: Sean follows close behind as everyone starts to float and swim along the surface for now
"This should be a good time then!"

L: Keith: "For sure! Hope we can find something interesting..."

Malo: "But even just swimming with you two would be enough for me."

S: "You know Malo, you're not so bad! I actually have a soft spot in my heart for wolfs anyways, so your actually kind of neat"
Sean then starts deeply breathing to prepare his lungs

L: Malo: "Oh! Um... Thanks. No one but Keith has ever said that before... It's nice to hear it from someone else."

Keith: "Hopefully there'll be more people that think the same, it must be rough to always have people be afraid of you." He and Malo start deeply breathing too.

S: "I feel bad honestly" after a while...
"Ok, let's dive now!"
Sean holds his breath before diving underwater, waiting for his two friends to join

L: Malo and Keith both hold their breath as well, diving down to join Sean. Surprisingly few bubbles are coming from Malo despite their skull seeming like it'd make it a little tough to keep their air in.

S: Sean noticed that and nods before swimming down deeper towards the bottom

L: Malo and Keith follow him. Malo happily blows a few bubbles, while Keith smiles at them, puffing out some bubbles himself.

S: Sean notices that and giggles out bubbles himself, and eventually our trio lands on the ocean floor, about 70 feet from the surface, with a cliff going off even deeper down, as they landed however there were bubbles off to the distance, it appeared to be a little Snivy, seemingly struggling to stay down here, having a pair of goggles of their own

L: Quickly noticing the snivy, Malo and Keith decide to watch for the moment, with Malo getting a little bit nervous about how far the snivy seems to be pushing themselves.

S: Sean stays back to watch too, although it didnt seem like there snivy was pushing themselves, their face was just a bit red, but they seem to be whimpering out bubbles and making their face more red, its like they are facing a fear, or at least trying to

L: Malo starts swimming over to the snivy for a moment, before remembering they'd probably be scared of them. Instead, they just rejoin the group and sit down on the bottom for now.

S: Sean frowns a bit, seeing the snivy trying so hard to exist down here, then after a minute the snivy suddenly got really scared and bolted up to the surface in a hurry, even when it wasnt low on air. Sean quickly follows and sees the snivy gasping for breath heavily and shivering in fear

L: Just after, Malo and Keith surface as well, with Malo trying to hide behind Keith for now.

Keith: "Hey, you okay over there?"

S: Snivy - "H-h-huh??" the snivy noticed everyone but Malo with a frown on his face, continuing to shiver in fear
"O-oh, i-im fine...I'm just trying to face my greatest fear, being underwater... its not easy!"

Sean - "Oh really? I see..."

L: Keith: "Ah, okay. I used to be kind of nervous about going underwater too... But hey, you're able to dive on your own, so it can't be TOO bad, right?"

S: "I used to be nervous myself but hey your brave just for going down there all on your own"

Snivy - "Y-yeah, but I don't know if I'm gonna be able to do it again tho..."
the snivy happened to notice Malo's tail peeking out
"Is someone behind you?"

L: Keith: "Oh, um... Yeah. My friend Malo's hiding behind me, since he tends to scare people when they first meet him. His face is just his skull."

Malo waves from behind Keith, keeping his face out of view. "Hi. I'll try to stay back here unless you're okay with me coming out."

S: "A Skull?!" the snivy was a bit worried about that
"W-well, I'm sure you don't look that scary...."

Sean - "He's not, he's actually really friendly"

L: Keith: "Believe me though, he scared me pretty bad when we first met... But he's a good guy, he just wants friends."

Malo: "Yeah, I can't really do anything about how I look, but I promise I'm not going to try to hurt you."

S: Snivy - "W-well, ok then...I guess ill trust you..."

Sean - "Alright Malo, reveal yourself, slowly..."

L: As asked, Malo slowly leans out from behind Keith, nervously smiling. "H-hi... Please don't be too scared..."

S: the snivy's eyes go wide at the scary look for Malo

Snivy - "O-oh my!!! That is scary!"

Sean - "Yeah, but I swear Malo is friendly! He won't hurt you!"

L: Malo: "I'm just really not good at making friends..."

Keith: "As far as I know, my friend and I are the only ones that aren't really afraid of him."

S: Snivy - "Well, even tho he looks scary, he doesnt sound too menacing, thats good enough for me i guess"

Sean - "Anyways, we're about to head down for another dive, you wanna tag along with us little snivy?"

Snivy - "O-oh um...I don't know if i can handle going underwater again..."

L: Malo: "I mean, you don't really have to..."

Keith: "We could probably help you out though, and it'll be more fun to not be alone down there this time."

S: Sean - "Very true"

Snivy - "I-i suppose your right, but I still don't know, i wanna get better, I really do... but I gotta put in the effort..."

L: Keith: "You were able to dive on your own, since we saw you underwater before this, so hopefully it's not going to be too hard."

Malo: "I think once you go again you'll start having an easier time."

S: Sean - "Yeah! You'll do fine! I promise!"

Snivy - "Alright alright, i guess ill give it another go then..."

Sean - "Awesome!"

L: Malo: "That's great!"

Keith: "We'll head down whenever you do, so you won't be alone."

S: "Yep!"

Snivy - "O-ok..."

the snivy spends a bit of time preparing himself mentally, hoping he won't chicken out, but he's delaying the enviable

Sean - "Hmm, maybe we should all go down at the same time"

L: Malo: "This is taking a long time, yeah..."

Keith: "Alright, how about just a countdown and then we go?"

S: Snivy - "I guess that can work, sorry about waiting for so long"

Sean - "Its ok, lets have Keith countdown then we can all go under at the same time"

Snivy - "Sure..."

L: Malo: "Yep, go ahead."

Keith: "Okay. 3, 2, 1!" He and Malo both dive.

S: Sean also dived underwater as well after holding his breath, and after a bit of hesitation from the Snivy he took takes a deep breath, pinches his little nose shut before submerging as well, whimpering out bubbles as he did

L: Once they see the snivy join them, Malo and Keith both smile at them, with Malo giving them a nod. They stay in place for the moment, figuring the snivy should be the one to lead if they want to go deeper.

S: the snivy continues whimpering out bubbles as he takes the second to look around

Sean - "Iblts ok bubld...takble your tiblme, were nobl in a rblush..."

L: Malo: "Yeblp, wble cabln..." He pauses for a moment, realizing how strange he sounds underwater. "Wble cabln tablke abls loblng abls yoblu nebled."

Keith nods, and gives a thumbs up.

S: Sean tries to comfort the snivy a little by patting its back gently

the snivy looks around at the trio all smiling warmly at him, which all slowly helps him calm down, still being scared however but having the courage to start swimming down a little deeper

L: Malo and Keith both follow them down, hoping the snivy is going to be staying brave. Keith starts trying to think of something that the group might be able to do to help relax the snivy some more.

S: Sean tries to think of something too as he follows them down too

the snivy keeps going down as he tries to stay brave, bubbles continuing to escape his mouth in a steady stream

L: Keith: "Yoblu've goblt thblis, dobln't ble scblarebld!"

Malo: "Thblere's noblthiblng tblo woblrry ablout!"

S: Sean - "Evblerything is gblonna be fiblne..."

eventually they all touch back at the bottom, the snivy still getting scared and whimpering

L: Keith pets the snivy some both to congratulate them and help them stay calm. Malo sits down next to them, not quite sure whether being there is helping.

S: the pets were helping the snivy stay calm somewhat as he takes a look around again, slowly relaxing

Sean - "Gblood...yblour dobling gblreat!"

L: Malo: "Trbly tblo foblcus obln soblmetblhinblg otblher thblan thble wablter, mablybe thblat'lbl hblelp."

Keith: "Yoblu dblo alblreabldy seblem tblo ble dobling bebltteblr thblougblh."

S: the snivy takes a swim along the bottom to explore for a bit, his face turning red again however as Sean follows

L: Keith and Malo both frown a little at how the snivy's already getting a little low on breath, but they follow them regardless.

S: Sean frowns a bit too, sensing the snivy must not be good at holding their breath

as this continues on, the snivy was having more trouble keeping his air in, bubbles constantly escaping him as his face was fully red now, grunting in strain and now is starting to get worried

L: Keith: "Yoblu dobling okblay? Yoblu dobln't hblave tblo publsh yoblursblelf..."

S: Sean - "Ybleah"

the snivy continues to grunt in strain, his face quickly turning blue now and getting more worried

L: Malo: "Obl-okblay, yoblu deblfinblitebly nebled tblo sublrfablce noblw! Yoblu're gobling kiblnd oblf fablr!"

Keith: "Thblis isbln't goblnna ble hblelpbling yoblu ble leblss scblarebld oblf wablter ablt thblis poblint!"

S: "Ablh jeblez! Ybleah!!!"

the snivy immediately swims up to the surface and gasps for breath heavily, coughing a bit too as Sean comes up too and gasps lightly

L: Malo and Keith both join the two up there, panting a little.

Malo: "W-well, if you were willing to push yourself like that, you must be doing better with water."

Keith: "Yeah, looks like you're not really as scared any more!"

S: Snivy - "I-i guess not, but being that low on breath was pretty scary..."

Sean - "You did a great job tho! Maybe next time don't push yourself that far, you don't want to inhale any water"

L: Keith: "And if that happens, you're probably not gonna be feeling too good about swimming any more."

Malo: "Yeah, so... Maybe be a bit more careful."

S: Snivy - "Yeah, i-ill keep that in mind, thanks guys...my lungs are pretty tired right now"

Sean - "Yeah I bet, from pushing yourself twice! You should rest"

everyone notices its actually growing dark now

L: Malo: "Oh, we should probably be heading back..."

Keith: "It wouldn't be good to be out here at night, yeah."

S: "Aww dang its already late?? Oh well, lets head to shore now"

everyone then heads back to shore with thankfully no issues

Snivy - "Thanks for helping me out guys"

L: Keith: "No problem, I think it was actually kind of fun."

Malo: "And I'm starting to get a better idea of how to introduce myself to people thanks to you, too!"

S: Sean - "Thats great to hear!"

Snivy - "Alright well, ill catch you guys later then, bye" he then leaves

L: Keith: "I should probably get going too. It was cool to hang out with you guys!"

Malo: "It really was! Glad I finally got the confidence to actually show up like this."

S: Sean - "Yeah! Your a lot of fun Malo! I really had a great time with you! Gotta get going as well, but I know we'll cross paths again soon!"

Sean gives Malo a hug

L: Malo hugs them back, wagging his tail. "I'm sure we will!"

S: "Hehe! Alright see ya!"

and so Sean heads away, having a new friend that wasnt actually scary or mean, making him pretty happy
