I wake up to sunbeams shining through the cracks in the curtains onto our bed, slowly coming to as the fog of last night's dreams slowly fade away. The first sound I'm greeted with is the slow rhythmic breathing of my love next to me. I look over at her, laying down on her side next to me tucked under the covers. I can feel her front leg kick slightly as she tries to run after something in her sleep. I sit up, pulling back the covers and revealing more of her large fluffy body next to mine, Greyish Brown fur covering her, her large soft ears twitch slightly. As the blankets are pulled back she jolts awake, sitting up quickly and immediately pressing her snout against my face. She gently says hello through licks over my cheek, and I greet her back as I run my hand along her back. She moves forward, pressing her body up against mine before flopping down against me. Her tail wags behind her as I rub along her soft underbelly with one hand, scratching behind her ear with the other. She pants happily, happiness and affection radiating out from her, pushing into my show of affection. Our love is a unique one, one that most don't understand, that can't understand. Little shows of love and admiration for one another in ways only we can tell, messages to each other only we decipher, but still shining and radiating outwards into the air around us. We lay there for a time, basking in each other's love and company before she grumbles a bit and gets up, jumping off the bed and walking to the door before looking back at me, just like she always does. And like I always do, I follow her and we both walk to the kitchen. I get out a pan, some cooking oil, and chicken from the fridge, and I start making both of our breakfast. She sits at my feet, waiting impatiently for her meal as the meat sizzles in the pan. I turn it over, I make sure it's cooked thoroughly, I make sure it's absolutely perfect for her. After what feels like ages, it's finally cooked, and I divide it in half. Half going onto my plate, and half into her food bowl just a few feet from me. We both take a few minutes and eat together, finishing our breakfast rather quickly. She drinks some water, I grab some as well. We eat and drink together in sync, in a routine that has been baked into our minds over years of being together.
After she is finished, she runs off and comes back with her leash, I already have my shoes on by the time she gets back. Side by side, and tail wagging, we step outside and take our walk. She restrains her near boundless energy and walks with pride to our usual spot, a nice open park area without too many others to disturb us. She constantly bumps up against me slightly, always looking back to make sure I'm still with her when she's ahead, at this point she's the one leading me. Finally, we made it, only a few others at the park, some with other dogs, but still mostly just for us. As we get there I let her off the leash, looking around on the ground for a spell. All the while she stands there in front of me, smiling and ready for what comes next. Eventually I found it, a nice sized stick. She readies herself. I throw it forward as hard as I can and it flies through the air. She instantly takes off after it, the morning sun shining on her lovely coat, reflecting in her eyes so filled with pure joy. She jumps and grabs it mid air, before sprinting back over to me. I kneel down and before I know it she jumps into my arms, dropping the stick by my feet and then licking eagerly over my face. She smiles and pants, telling me just how much she loves me in a way only I truly know. I hold onto her, hugging her close as we share in this perfected moment. Warm sunlight shining down, the chirps of birds in the trees, and her panting. The feeling of her fur against my skin, her body pressed against mine. True love being expressed in a way that not everyone understands, but everyone doesn't have to understand, what matters is that me and her understands, and what is true to us. Before long she is back standing at the ready, and I grab the stick, ready to throw it once more and continue this perfect morning.
