Agreed. And Marmite is gross, whether it's on toast or your junk. Vegemite, on the other hand...

LOL. It's funny how much Marmite and Vegimite are different. It's not even a preference thing, like Pepsi v. Coke--one is vile, the other is wonderfully delicious.

A lady of the late 19th-early 20th century put it nicely:
" "Does it really matter what these affectionate people do, so long as they don't do it on the street and frighten the horses?"

That really needs updating, since horses aren't in common use as transportation any more.  How about, "...don't do it in the street and cause a traffic jam?" Or, "...don't do it in the street, the pics will be all over Twitter!"

Interesting fact: Leviticus is about slavery. You won't sleep with a slave, nor treat like another, "person." So either way, it's morally wrong...

very nice statements. personally i do not care if same sex people wanna get married. I am sure it isn't an issue to most people, but the only thing i have to say about the gay marraige issue is as long as they dont make a law saying churches have to do it despite their beliefs than i am fine with it, but as i said i don't think people are demanding that.

As much as I agree with Mr. Roarey, Homophobia is a Phobia. It's like Hydrophobia or Arachnophobia. And I'm not saying trying to kill spiders is any more moral, it's just uncontrollable. I mean I have heard of people so scared of water, they if someone doesn't trick or force them to drink it, they nearly die of dehydration.

By all means, I think that people with this mental illness should probably keep to them selves and let bipartisan parties determine law. But we shouldn't be mad at Homophobic people because their sick, it's like calling Steven Hawking an idiot because he has MS.
And again, They should probably work out their issues first, or let someone else handle that area of Law.

Uh, no. It's not a phobia in the way that we usually think about phobias. Homophobia is pretty much the same thing as racism, sexism, or whatever other flavor of bigotry. A true phobia is a type of anxiety disorder and has nothing to do with actively hating something. For example, I say that I don't like spiders, because I don't like creepy crawlies at all, but I'm hardly phobic of them because my dislike of them does not send me into an anxious tailspin.

Homosexuality does not send homophobes into an anxious tailspin: it sends them into a hateful one. I appreciate you trying to draw the comparison by using the -phobia suffix, but in this case, homophobia encompasses a wide array of negative feelings about LGBT individuals, not just fear. In fact, there is mounting evidence to indicate that homophobes are, in fact, fearful and hateful of their own sexuality of which they are unsure.

Basically, aversion to LGBT individuals is something people cannot control, nor should they be expected to. That's impractical. What IS reasonable to expect is that everyone be treated like a human, deserving of the same rights and privileges of everyone else. And that IS something we have control over.
TwinkleTwilight

Don't get me wrong I'm sure most homophobes aren't actually phobic. But you never know. The movie it made tons of people deadly scared of clowns. I wouldn't be surprised if religion made people irrationally scared of gays. There could be people with a real phobia that could be really treated with therapy.
But I'm sure most racist, bigot and all around A-holes use the word to seem "Just" in their own communities.

I mean come'on I hear you can be cured of arachnophobia now, what if some people could be "cured" of being a dick?
Us3rN4m3
6 years, 10 months ago
Yeah, the "Phobia" thing can get confusing.  I think there should be a different word myself, to avoid confusion in the future. :/
TwinkleTwilight
6 years, 10 months ago
I think it's an Illness, and other (Racists) just use it to sound smart.
I do know someone who is blatantly homophobic, the idea of men having sex scares the crap out of him. And he has no reservations about gay people having rights, or doing their thing, as long as he doesn't have to know about it.
shadycat

The word you are looking for is 'bigot'.

I still think the vast majority of people opposing gays (Non-violently, the crazies are another category.) really feel the way they do because they have kids.  That's a pretty large assumption to make, I know.  Most of the aforementioned say that they're doing it for a strictly religious reason.  "Protecting the Sanctity of Marriage" is kind of a cop out from saying "I really hope my child doesn't get into gay stuff because it's really common now", etc.  Now before the "Born v. Bred" argument comes up, I'll say I'm biased from personal experience to the latter.

Competent realistic attempt at discourse.  9 times out of 10 to be refuted by a man in a NASCAR hat with loud obscenities and lots of Jesus thrown around.  I'd always hope for a world were we could honestly and openly talk about issues that affect us all, but I don't think we're there yet.

But this...it helps.

I'm pretty gay too. But I don't agree. I don't have to have to hate gay people to point out that our lifestyle is unhealthy and abnormal.

ZadeWinters
6 years, 10 months ago
All I'm saying is that the way i see it, not all people who don't fully support "gay rights" hate gay people. And furthermore the "it's private" thing is a logically unsound principle. You can't defend the morality of an action based on its level of privacy. That same argument could be used to defend consensual sex between a teacher and her 12 year old student. And we all agree that's still wrong.
RoareyRaccoon

Wow, that's one of the most ridiculous things I've ever seen written on this website. I can't believe you used child molestation as a fucking parallel, are you bonkers? The point here is that gay people don't need to demonstrate how their love lives aren't immoral, because it causes no harm in and of itself. If people are going to say homosexuality is immoral they need to demonstrate why, and that doesn't mean waving a fucking book around.

Okay, I can accept that people who don't support gay rights don't necessarily hate gay people. Hating gay people would at least be a reason not to support gay rights. But if you don't hate gay people and you still don't support equal rights? Then you're a fucking dumbass.

You appear to lack a functional neocortex. It doesn't matter if people hate or not. If you are opressing people, you deserve to at the very least die brutally.

Please try to develop a functional nervous system by the time you reply back.

As a incredibly devout straight fur, I attest to both sides of the argument. However, gays a people, and should be accepted by everyone. Although the Bible says its wrong, it also says lying, judging, and singling others out are as well. I think if everybody, on both sides, would stop being so upright about everything, then everybody could be happy. All the buttsex for gays :D All the ignorance for the judgmental pricks in Amurrica :D

Love can be between anybody, no matter the gender pairing. Love is blind. It doesn't see imperfections OR genders. If two people are in love, who are we to stop them?
