Since Snowy often likes to learn things about space and planets, he read an article about how the sun
will spend to the point that it will consume the planet, which obviously makes him feel scared.
No worries pup, by the time that happens, we all be long gone.
This is something that, I'm not going to lie, did scare me as a child.

I once had a dream that the sun actually exploded..  And we were casted into darkness after the shock wave knocked the planet into another orbit.. where days were 50 hours long and we were at a average temp of 23 degress C..  It was so real I had to remind myself if it happens I will become part of the star that gave life and took it away..

I often wondered, if it were possible for NASA to pinpoint exactly what day the world will end, at what point would everyone begin to panic?

I do know if NASA predicts the world will end three billion years from now, that wouldn't get much attention.

And if it was predicted that an asteroid the size of France will disintegrate Planet Earth within a month, there would be mass panic.

But where does that change?

It's not likely to cause panic if NASA predicted that the end of Planet Earth will take place 10,000 years from now.
What about if that prediction was for 700 years from now?...Maybe not.
As for 300 years from now...Everyone would know the great nations and cities we build now will only last another 300 years.
Or 250 years from now?...Everyone would realize, "That's so close, but not even our great grand kids will still be around".
I can see where there would be concern for our yet to be born grand kids if that prediction was for 100 years from now.
A prediction of 50 years from now means it's still way off yet, though some of us will still be around to witness it happen.
I think a prediction of 25 years from now would have folks thinking, "Live life to it's fullest now while we all still can".
If the prediction was for 10 years or less from now, that's when most folks would be scared...Only a few years left.
And a prediction of within a few months would be when there is mayhem, panic and pandemonium in the streets.

That sounds about I agree.
Looking at COVID responses, the public seems gel around the reality of a well known time-base problem 12-18 months in advance.
Mijn vader said about the same from Y2k. I've ever only known this century though en "years start with one nine" doesn't sound real huhu!

Aw, poor pupper. Don't worry about stuff that is not even a flicker in the distance.

At least he has kind parents that'll comfort him with the logical knowledge that will put his mind at ease. A child's overactive imagination is both a blessing and a curse.

Me, when I was young, it was the opposite... I was afraid that the sun would let us go and we would be hurled into space and freeze to death. Ah the innocence and fears of childhood... if only those fears would be the only fears we would have to worry about now.

it's quite depressing when u realize that the star we all love will one day put an end to us all. and what's more - it's gonna finish us off *long* before it becomes a red giant. we have only about a billion years left before the Earth becomes uninhabitable
