I wanted to finish the year with something special, and since I had been struggling a bit to draw proper backgrounds for a while now, I looked deep into it and can now say with confidence that my last few drawings have shown some progress in that area despite being a bit inconsistent in comparison to the consistent style I draw my characters in.
So while I know I can draw backgrounds, I also believed that they needed more consistency, although I came to the conclusion that instead of marrying myself to a specific background style, I have decided to just use all my different background styles depending on the situation. For example, the "It's all Fun and games until someone gets locked" pic, the commissions for Chloe and Mettle, and most of my old drawings had a background in the same style I draw characters in which evolved over time, the commissions for Stewy had lineless backgrounds, and the "Can I get to your soul" pic had a mix between the two styles.
Then there are of course the pics with an abstract background and / or just colours and a wall, and finally the "Don't be afraid of the big bad Wolf" comic which had a background and character drawing style meant to resemble a children's pop up book.
All in all, I have many background styles some in which I have more experience than others, and I like all of them, so here in this pic I am giving attention to the lineless style while I draw a character that had just appeared as a cameo before and never in a drawing of his own, his name is Saarus and he is part of the "Outer Menace" story along with the Blue Shark Girl Valkyrie and the Lioness Android Monica, his role in the story is being the personal bodyguard of the Andromeda Corporation CEO Amanda Felix, who would latter send him out to take out some of her enemies.
I had this drawing as a sketch for some months now, I even used this exact same pose for the "Outer Menace protagonists" pic where I made five silhouettes of 3 of the 4 main characters, since I already had the character done, I just changed certain details, added the gun and other stuff, and adjusted the lighting, then I made the background based on that old sketch I had.
