Assault on Batteries

The Atari Lynx was pretty far ahead of its time; a handheld game system with abilities beyond the reach of even contemporary home consoles like the Sega Genesis and Turbografx-16. But alas, that power comes with a price...

This was a commission piece for Kelvin the Lion. I figured I could either wallow in depression all day or actually get something done... I hope I made the right choice.

EDIT: Added a few details at the request of the commissioner... and changed a few things that personally bothered me. I think the garbage can was a bridge too far, so I threw an alternate version of the picture with it in there just in case anyone wanted to see it. I think it throws off the composition of the drawing, but at the same time, who could resist kicking around a piece of crap like Kung Food? It seems like the Lynx ran out of gas around the time Atari ran out of arcade ports and relied instead on original titles.

hahahaha🤣🤣, this brings me funny memories when I had a sega game gear, and it was a battery-eating monster, I could only reset games like sonic, castle of ilusion and donald duck using a power supply plugged into the socket, bus travel? not even thinking it was game over without losing lives playing 🤣🤣🤣, good times from my gamer adolescence in 1994 🙂

A power supply was almost a must for the Game Gear. Those early color systems were so thirsty for batteries because they used fluorescent lights behind the screens. The Game Boy didn't need that, and thankfully, neither do today's handheld game systems.

yes and nowadays it is possible to change the game gear to rechargeable batteries and screen with better lighting and low power consumption , look at this video https://youtu.be/SFui8ZhAZGQ

PS, months later i trade to nintendo game boy brick model with green monochromatic screen, AND IT WAS THE BEST CHOICE I MADE 😀😀😀, in addition to a vast library of good and cheap and exclusive games, because the laptop lasted a lot of 30 hours of game with screen without proper lighting, something I decided to buy an accessory called ligthboy that lights up the green screen of the game boy and that I have kept in the box until today.

I was not expecting to wake up to find my request was fulfilled. Thank you so much! Devon looks great here. I imagine that Devon plays that Lynx because it once belonged to his daddy. Kids tend to be obsessed with smart phones but Devon is obsessed with something that's outdated and somewhat obscure.

Did you just make this character? Not sure I've ever seen him before.

It's one of Kelvin's. Devon, I believe.

He's in Mythies issue 11. He plays Virax in commercials they make.

heha, oh geeze. I'd hate to have to deal with so many batteries like that.

Nice pic. Looks greats.

Thanks for adding the toe rings. Fun fact: each time Devon does a commercial his mom goes on ebay and orders another game for his collection. I don't know what kind of commercial he made to deserve kung food.
