She's based on a Christian mother I know in my Bible study (I study for the interesting life lessons it gives, but I'm not a Christian) who's married to a pastor who studies the Hebrew language and cleared up a lot of misconceptions that people have about the Bible either due to mistranslations or misrepresentations that have been propagated by media in some form. They are what Christians should be--ones that follow Jesus Christ and don't cast stones for what they view as sins, but they try to help change if possible. Good people, even if they believe that the earth was only created a few thousand years ago. But they're good people.
