Reclaimer-Dominator database entry.

Enemy intelligence data analysis, codename: Gapemouth

Range of size: 2 feet to 5 feet
Biology anchor type: organic
Organic processes: negative
Natural weaponry: claws, grinder drill mouth

Threat level: Low

A low-level void predator mass produced by many types of Outsiders for use for psychological warfare and as a terror weapon. The gapemouth appear as a grotesquely deformed head, often with a single pair of empty eye sockets and an empty, toothless mouth, and a seemingly random number of limbs interchangeably used as arms or legs, ranging from two to fifty.

Gapemouths are designed to incite unease and terror in most sapients, with loud, pained, wheezing breathing that can be heard through walls. Gapemouths can teleport when no active self-aware processes are witnessing them, allowing them to relocate quickly as to ambush victims or simply creep them out, as to either reduce their willpower and ability to resist corruption or as part of attack plans.

Gapemouths, when actually encountered, will go berserk and often charge their foes, attempting to claw at them with their many limbs or to apply their multiple nestled rotating jaws upon their victims to grind them down to nothing. Do not underestimate the damage a gapemouth can inflict this way ; their nestled mouths mirror an industrial drill's multiple heads in design and is about as effective, being capable of drilling through almost any kind of material.

Gapemouths are capable of drilling through reinforced walls and doors that way, though they usually favor simply teleporting past obstacles.

Gapemouth teleportation is not based upon any physics of reality and thus, cannot be interdicted by conventional means. They cannot however teleport in plain sight of victims and their bodies still need to occupy a physical space for them to enter a location, thus an attentive security guard (preferably a self-aware AI one) with plenty of cameras can shut down the ability of gapemouths to teleport.

Most gapemouths also seem to have an arbitrary range to their teleportation ability, only being able to move within a single building, cave system, planet, or starship at a time. Though one should not underestimate how far that range can go.

Gapemouths are very dangerous in melee and move unnaturally quickly, being capable of moving at speeds that can outpace most non-supersonic vehicles but have never been witnessed wielding weapons and only extremely rarely have projectile capabilities.

Still, gapemouths, being deliberate weapons of terror, will tend to be fielded intelligently and will almost always be working in tandem with other void predators. Thus, while gapemouths may be of a low threat level individually, they are often encountered in high risk situations and disadvantageous combat scenarios.

Gapemouths do not have biological processes and do not have actual eyes and thus can see perfectly with the dark, with all blinding-type weaponry and techniques being ineffective. However, gapemouths cannot create physical anchors unaided and without their head, their limbs lose coherence and fade away. Massive trauma or just plain pulverizing the head will defeat a gapemouth instantly.

Just be aware of their teleportation tactics and do not let their terror tactics affect you.
