ok before this goes any further what year is he in, you said rome,italy right? reason being that the only the way he can an item like that if he knew inventer who both knew how create canes and the assassin's and the only the person i can think in that location who is a inventer is Leonardo da venchi! and while the guy was both an inventer and knew the assassin brother hood i don't think the guy used a cane that much. the thing i can think of is if Aurelio took a blue print with perfications for his blades is add a feature that would the two blades to connect some how to become the cane!? and allow for them to be still use able for killing Templar's.

alright NOW that makes sense!! using poles would work better altho he would be hidden blade-less he should be fine provided that the blades are on the ends of the cane and can still be used for both thieving and assassination.
