Inside of a castle bedroom, Sonic is lying in a bed as he recalls the events that led him into the past...

Eggman had finally managed to acquire the Time Stones from Little Planet.
Upon leaving Little Planet, Eggman and Metal Sonic rendezvoused with the Badniks at Never Lake. However, they were attacked by Sonic, Tails, Amy, and Knuckles. This surprise attack caused Eggman to drop the Time Stones.
Eggman ordered his robot army to recollect the Time Stones. Despite having the heroes outnumbered, the robots were overwhelmed. And Metal Sonic was heavily damaged.
Each of the heroes had managed to collect a Time Stone. However, Eggman refused to give up. He managed to reacquire a few Time Stones and he was going to follow through with his plans.
Eggman equipped his elite robots with Time Stones and ordered them to follow through with their missions. After that, they scattered in different directions.
Eggman fled the area while the robots either ran into time portals or disappeared into robot transporters.
Not wasting anytime, the heroes made quick decisions on who would chase after which robots into the past. After a swift agreement, they each vanished into the time portals.
End of flashback...

Sonic wonders how his friends are doing. He knows what Eggman's plans are. The doctor wants to wipe the Freedom Fighters from existence and to conquer the past.
A knock on Sonic's door interrupts his thoughts. He turns to the door as something slips under it.
Sonic walks over to the door and picks up a letter. The envelope was blank with a heart seal on the back.
"Sir Sonic, I wish to speak with you. Come speak with me after dark."' The bottom of the letter was signed by "Lady Alicia."
