Warning: This is going to be a political rant, and you must keep reading before commenting. Those of you who do not want to read or see this, DO NOT COMPLAIN! Click the back button or exit out of this now, like everyone should!
I do not approve of COPPA. Why? Because it's put more restrictions on Youtubers on what they say and do. Censorship...
Now, the rest of the world and the governments may not know, but to us Americans, FREEDOM MEANS EVERYTHING TO US! We want to do whatever we want without being judged. We are allowed to make our own decisions, have our own interests, and even do things as we wish (as long as its not criminal). It is not just Americans, but it is our rights as human beings. People who do not like whatever we do should never complain, and just walk away right now. Besides, children should not be on the internet in the first place; they should be in school, and not go on until they are 13-years-old, but prior to that, there should be a class talking about the internet and so forth. There should not be any restriction on what can be shown and what shouldn't be (unless it's like Deviantart and NSFW, NSFW go to specially designated sites like Furaffinity and/or Inkbunny, and so forth).
Youtube should not have restrictions on swearing and sensitive content. If someone's offended by it, they should never go to sue or complain. They should just move on from it. It's called being a "grown-up" and acting mature, like all adults should be! I will state this now, just by censoring something, you're NEVER going to get rid of it. You will never get rid of profanity, NSFW, and other stuff you may find disturbing or offensive. The key to solving these issues is to just ignore the issue and/or walk away from it. As for the case of sensitive topics and youtube, education is prime.
It goes back with my speech on the hate symbols. You're never going to truly get rid of a symbol because it was used for something sensitive. Big deal... You need to toughen it out and move on. We cannot change history. And as George Santana said, "Those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it."
In my opinion, I think COPPA is a waste of time, energy and taxpayer dollars (Our money). To the people who pushed COPPA's existence, you need to deal with the fact these things are out there, on the internet, and the best way to go on with it is if you educate your kids on it, make them aware, and teach them to be cautious and preventing, like good parents should. In my opinion, parents (and people) are lazy and they do not know how to raise their children properly.
To those of you who take offense to this; I am allowed to say this too. It is my freedom of speech as stated in the first amendment in the US Constitution. It is a God-given right to me as a human being and you can never take that away from me.
