My final entry and I finished the 2019 Inktober Challenge!
I know lots of people are going to draw a rotten pumpkin for “ripe” but I could not think of anything better. And what could fit better than a rotten pumpkin?
Few of my Inktober entries this year have paid homage to movies and this last one is inspired by Halloween III.
This movie gets lots of undeserved hate for all the wrong reasons. Ironically, it disappointed fans for being a Horror movie, because they expected a Slasher like the two previous entries in the series. People wanted to see a guy in a white mask go on a murderous rampage.
But Halloween III is a great movie if you see it as a standalone horror story instead of part of the franchise.
As silly as the plot is, it makes more sense than “Captain Kirk’s evil twin kills a series of people for reasons”. This is a movie with lots of interesting horror elements. It has a few really scary moments, a great cheesy villain and pretty decent special effects for the time.
The concept of a villain who combines ancient artifacts with modern technology to unleash unspeakable horrors on mankind is right out of Lovecraft’s mythos.
And the scariest part of this movie is…That is came true!
Just looks at what Halloween has become. This season used to be about children dressing as scary ghosts and witches. Go outside tonight and you will notice every single costume is a design copyrighted by Disney. There are not even scary costumes anyone; they are all princesses and superheroes.
For me, the best part of Halloween was improvising something weird with whatever I had around the house. I remember turning a broken basketball inside out and painting a skull face on it, or staining a roll of bandages with tea to disguise myself as a mummy with the help of my mother. Today the whole preparation starts and ends with a trip to Walmart.
Where is the creativity, the originality, the fantasy? Crushed like a rotten pumpkin.
Don’t you see it? Just like in the movie, a sinister corporation turned all the kid’s brains into mush using TV screens across the world!
Stop it!
Stop it!
Stoooooop-iiiiiiiiiitttttt!!!!!!
Oops… Was that too over the top?
It has been a great Inktober challenge and I’m happy I completed it. I was late a couple of days and a few of the drawings were rushed crap, but I’m happy with most of them.
I hope everyone has enjoyed it as much as I did.
Happy Halloween Everyone!
