The Mummy's Curse: A Gift From Beyond
"Well, darn it anyway,'' Liane's wife, Jessamine exclaimed, "Liane's not back from the dig yet and supper is ready. And the Tanna leaf tea is going to get cold if she's not here to drink it. She get's so engrossed in this new find. I guess I'll just have to go over there myself myself and dig her out of that tomb.'' She chuckled at her own little joke.

Leaving the cook tent at their dig headquarters, just a few hundred yards from the newly found tomb of Jessa Ho-Tep, the comely mouse/weasel hybrid that Liane liked to call her 'measelwife', Jessie ambled over to the entrance of the tomb, noting that the night guards were nowhere to be seen. "That is rather an odd occurrence!", she thought to herself. Nevertheless she plunged on down the makeshift ramp and into the tomb and immediately screamed! There was her love bunny, stretched out on the floor next to the previously unopened sarcophagus, which now gaped empty but for a few scraps of moldering mummy wrappings.

Flying to the side of her wife, Jessamine knelt and reached out to touch the bunny's cheek. "Well, she's warm and breathing at least'', Jessie murmured to herself. "I've got to try to wake her up!" But just at that moment, the touch of her loved ones paw must have roused the unconscious rabbit, for her eyes slowly blinked open and she turned her head to look squarely at Jessie.

"Oh Jess", she cried, "I was so scared! It was horrible!"
"What happened?", the measel asked, "Were you attacked? Did someone sneak in and knock you out to steal the mummy?"
"Oh, much much worse, love!", "I was inspecting the mask on the sarcophagus lid when I heard a scraping noise and the lid began to move towards me! I jumped back and circled the casket to see who might be hiding and pushing the lid open, but...but....it was a ghastly mummy's hand pushing it open from the inside!!" "All I remember after that was seeing this mummy moving.....rising to it's feet as it pushed the lid completely off the sarcophagus, and it....it turned it's head and looked at me with these deep set, glowing eyes, and said something I couldn't understand. Then I guess I passed out from fright, till you came and woke me." "Oh come, Jessie!", Liane hurriedly said, "Let's get out of here and back to the camp before it comes back. I don't think I could stand to be in here any longer tonight, and certainly never alone again!"

Helping her wife to her paws, Jessamine half supported and half carried Liane back to camp, and laid her on her cot, fetching her a cup of the restoring Tanna leaf tea to help her recover. "Here, love, just you sip on this, while I find out where the rest of the staff is. No one else seems to be around, and the guards were missing at the dig too!" "NO..NO!", Liane was nearly hysterical, "Don't leave me alone for even one second! That THING might return!"

Just then a rustling sound was heard from outside the tent as of someone walking, but dragging one foot more than stepping with it. Sort of a step-scrape...step-scrape noise, and the two girls clung to each other as if their very lives depended on them being as close together as possible. And there they remained for the rest of the night, sipping tea and hugging each other for comfort, but never catching so much as a wink of sleep till dawn brightened the outside world, and they dared poke their noses outside again, ready to try to unravel the mysterious disappearance of an apparently living mummy and try to track down their missing crew, who no doubt had fled the scene as soon as things got strange.

If Jessamine is what is currently breaking out across the US. Let it. It's super cute. Why are we suppressing cuteness? ;)

I'm not sure what you mean? Jessie is just an ordinary mouse girl.

Just some silly gamer talk: In virtually any fantasy game setting Vampires are outclassing Mummies, so essentially Liane should be able to command Jessa Ho-Tep, since the bunny vampire is a greater undead compared to the mummy...

Story was/is amusing to read. ☺
