Nobody was hurt, we're mostly back to normal, and this kitchen reset has allowed for a reevaluation of how we organize the kitchen. Over the years, new things were accumulated without having a designated spot. We didn't even have a spice rack until I had to replace all of the smoke-contaminated spices and decided to just buy a fully-stocked spice rack. It spins! I started cooking from scratch just over a year ago, so I'm really making the most of this clean slate. Since I know what I needed, I upgraded the stove(convection!), replaced the burned steamer with an Instant Pot multi-cooker, and have a planned-out food prep area that nobody's allowed to put non-food items on.
...I am so glad we have homeowners insurance.
