Kanan was a great owlbear who grew into a powerful warrior but before that he was a cublet.  He was a weak little thing and grew slower than other cublets.  His mother abandoned him because she thought he would die and the rest of his village ignored him but his father saw something else, the potential to be something great.  He took Kanan to the outskirts of the village, he knew exactly what to do.  His father was a strong hearted warrior and every day he’d bring Kanan a carcass twice his size and told him to eat all he could.  When Kanan was finished, his father would take him out onto the ice and force him to climb a massive wall and leave a mark when he couldn’t climb higher.  Everyday, he would be taunted by the other children and shunned by the adults.  Kanan did this everyday for years and years until he was a teenager, not noticing the taunts lessened for he had gotten used to it.  Kanan asked his father one day after finishing his meal, “Father, what is the point of this?  I am weak and yet you think I can be something great.  I will never be big and strong as you are.  I have and always will be a disappointment.”  His father looked at his son and smiled, “Kanan, look at the carcass I brought you.”  Kanan looked down and realized he had picked the carcass clean.  “When you were small, you could barely finish a haunch of a ice rodent and now you pick clean a snow strider.”  His father stood up from his chair and gestured for him to follow, Kanan did as he was told.  His father brought him to the wall he had to climb every day.  On the wall, Kanan saw his claw marks.  The smallest from his early days were at the bottom while the ones he left yesterday were nearly to the top.  “Climb the wall, one last time my son.”  Kanan climbed the wall and he finally reached the top of the massive cliff with his father behind him and they looked out to the horizon.  “Even the smallest of seeds can sprout mighty trees.  My son, you didn’t notice that you grew a little everyday.  Every day, you got a little stronger and went a little farther.  You had strength with in you and never even noticed it but I did which is why I brought you so much food and made you climb this cliff every day.  Now it’s time for your real training to begin,” his father told him.  His father then began to train Kanan how to fight.  He made Kanan punch the ice until it fractured and cracked then showed him how to wield his spiked club.  His father did this every day until he died of old age when Kanan was fully grown.  Kanan was heartbroken, but with the passing of his father it meant that there was nothing left for him in that lonely cave on the outside of the village.  He may have grown strong but his village still didn’t see a warrior.  But on the day he was to leave, a pair of colossi decided to brawl and their fight threatened the village and all who lived there.  Kanan saw the size of these creatures and froze.  He had never seen anything so big before, his mind was telling him to run.  Kanan then remembered something that his father said just before he died, “You have the strength inside you to move mountains.  Remember that.”  Kanan knew what he had to do.  He grabbed his father’s club and charged up the massive cliff he climbed as a youth.  He jumped at the colossi and landed on one, he began to hit it in the eye with his father’s club.  The colossus screamed in pain and swung wildly, striking the other one out and causing a large cloud of dust to form.  The rest of the village couldn’t see Kanan but both colossi fell.  They searched but found that Kanan had died during the fight, but before that he had defeated both colossi by turning their strength against them.  The village buried him with honor and from then on they called him Kanan the warrior.
