As I mentioned in "Civil Air Patrol Sandy", my father used his Ercoupe for CAP missions.  I was curious to see if any pics of N3627H were out there, and, sure enough, there were!  Here's the 'Coupe, still pretty in the paint scheme my father designed in the late '70s, though it's sadly obvious she hasn't seen the skies lately... :-(

A lot of rake to those wings.  Looks pretty easy to handle, but what is up with the twin horizontal stabilizers?  This is a small plane.

Well, it was designed about the same time as the B-25, P-38 and other twin tailed planes, so... ;-D

Wiki says that this was designed to be the safest small plane built.  The tail has something to do with stall control.  I ain't no Jimmy Doolittle.

It was marketed as being spinproof; p'raps the twin tails have sommat to do with that...

Also I see a lotta wing here.  I have 4 hours in a Cessna and landed once by myself with the instructor in the plane.  I am not presuming any kind of experience or expertise, but I love reading about machinery.  This baby is very obviously a responsive, forgiving aircraft.

I would have thought otherwise.  I guess it sacrificed glide for nimble.

Well, it's a very strong airframe, and, therefore, heavy...

"Planes, like boats or guitars, are always a trade off of weight and power", said the master of the obvious.
