Once word had gotten to the royal family, both Marz and Drax walked down to the prison ward to go and see the person who had assaulted Maxwell before and Draga earlier. Marz was mostly there to watch his father and see how he handled it, since he was always a curious kid. The king entered the prison and looked around, Ornstein and the guard on duty both bowed to the two royal family members as they entered, before Drax motioned for the to stand. “Alright Ornstein, what's the whole situation?” He asked as he was lead towards one of the cells.
“This jackal had attacked Draga and his allies when Marie summoned him, they were unable to stop Marie as he had gotten in the way. He managed to wound Draga and harm Eeyruuad to warrant medical attention, and he refuses to talk to anyone. What's weird is when he first stopped him, he had this yellow tint to his eyes, but now it's gone. Is it possible that it was caused by the blood witches power?” He asked. To most of the world, Marie was the blood witch, because she would torture people just for the sake of getting blood, and everyone feared her, even Drax. The king was more afraid of being killed and abandoning his family, but afraid still.
“I want to hope not.” Drax says and opened the cell and walked in, closing it behind him and seeing the jackal sitting there, silently. He seemed really restless, due to the possession he went through he might not be fully aware of where he was yet. Drax walked over and sat beside him, the king had a majestic aura to him, but the jackal could also sense a very parental comfort from the man as he looked over. “I only have this one question for you, did you attack on your own will or instinct? If you can answer that, things will go much smoother.” Drax said gently.
The jackal looked at his paws and shook his head. “No. I-I don't remember anything from the last two weeks, everything has been hazy ever since my home was attacked. I escaped with my little brother, and then I fought someone, a woman in black.” He stammered and stumbled across his words as he tried to remain calm “After that… I was here, locked in this cell.” He said before realizing his brother was missing and he started to panic.
Drax placed a gentle claw on his shoulder, noticing the panic. “I understand, please stay calm. If you can prove we can trust you, you can stay here until you find your brother.” He said softly and gently lifted his chin to look him in the eye, showing he was serious in that. “I don't like the idea of someone as young as you being out there on your own without a home, so if you prove to me you're not dangerous to me and my family, I'll take you in until you find your brother and know what you permanently want to do.” He offered him.
The jackal was taken by surprise when he heard that, and shook softly as everything happened so fast, but nodded. “Please, I'll take your offer.” He said softly, shocked at how gentle the king was, but he wasn't going to complain considering he still wasn't sure what to do, but now his only resolve was to find his brother, and hoped he wasn't in any danger. “B-by the way, my name is Mar.” he said “I realized I never told you, and I atleast owe you that much.” He said gently, showing he wasn't such a dangerous person, he was actually really gentle when not fighting.
“Mar huh? I like that name, it's close to my sons name.” Drax smiled as he rubbed the jackals head softly and lead him out of the cell, keeping him close since some of the guards were giving him dirty looks since he beat a prince and nearly beat Draga, but Drax glared at them and they all went back to work. Marz saw and smiled seeing Drax with the jackal, glad to see his father's caring nature was showing again since he seemingly was comforting the jackal. “Alright Marz, let's take this one to the castle and show him around.” Drax smiled, Mar surprised that their names were almost identical, minus one letter, but smiled as Marz nodded and walked with his father and Mar back to the castle.
Upon returning, Saria walked up smiling at Drax. “Welcome back your majesty, the doctor requests you come to Maxwell’s room, if you have a moment.” She said, her gentle voice relaxing the jackal some as she spoke, and Saria noticed he was there so she wasn't rushing Drax at all.
Drax sighed softly and nodded “Alright I’ll head right over, do you mind taking this one here to one of the guests rooms?” He asked Saria, who smiled brightly and nodded as she was asked, she didn't mind doing stuff like that as she looked at the jackal boy softly. Drax smiled softly and looked st Marz “Help her out while I go and see what is going on with your brother.” He said, and Marz nodded while his father walked away from them.
Saria looked at the two, a smile on her face as she started leading them down the hall. Saria wasn't usually one for judging people, so even knowing who the jackal was, she could tell he was different than when Maxwell had been attacked. Her smile turned to a concerned frown as she walked but made sure not to let the other two know of her new look as she walked. If Mar wasn't the same as he was when she attacked Maxwell, that made her wonder what was really behind the source of the witches power and why she was able to make someone so calm and gentle turn into someone with the passion to murder others. Saria had a lot on her mind as she entered the guest room, it was nicely decorated to fit anyone with a high standing title in society, it was an impressive sight to anyone who hasn't seen the castle in full view.
Mar looked around in awe at the huge room, impressed that even a guest of the castle got such a great treatment, but couldn't help but feel like they were making him feel welcomed for some reason. It was like everything Drax had did was for another purpose, but Mar could tell it wasn't anything bad, Drax was to sweet of a man to do something like that. For now he just went and sat on the bed while Saria smiled. “If you need anything dear, just call for Saria, I'll make sure you're taken care of.” The girl said and smiled as she silently left the room, but Marz stayed and actually watched the jackal as he stood there, Marz could sense a lot of power in him even without the possessed aid.
“You're a magic user, aren't you?” Marz asked suddenly, not making idle talk. He was right to the point as Mar was taken by surprise as he looked at the fox. “I can sense it in you, your attacks aren't just basic attacks, you have a powerful presence that shows off of you, so be honest. You can use magic like the rest of us.”
“Well, I mean, I guess you're not entirely wrong, but it isn't magic like you know it, it's an ability that allows you to focus all your energy into one specific area. It acts like magic and can be sensed by anyone familiar with magic, but it doesn't use any form of magical property, it's just a practice of which you relax your mind and put all your energy into one place, like your fist or your leg.” Mar started to explain. “Unlike magic, it won't tire you out for using it, as it only sends out enough energy to harm the target and do enough damage to fight, but due to the intense practices you much go through, your body must be suited to do such things. When I first started to learn how to use it, I had to put myself into silence for days, unable to communicate with others so I could focus my energy. Once I got past that, it was only a matter of time until control was gained. Now I can use it on command, even when things are hectic. It's how I was able to fight that dragon kid.” He said, but slowly realized he had regained that memory.
Marz stepped back in surprise as he watched the jackal. “You actually remember that?” He asked with his jaw slightly opened in shock, but shook his head and calmed down so he didn't get over excited about it.
“I-I think I do. Usually whenever I was taken control of, like the guards mentioned, I black out, and that's where all my missing memories have gone to… But, for some reason, I am able to remember that, I remember seeing her sick twisted face as she forced me to fight, she used my power against that kid.” Mar said and clutched his head in his paws and growled, his hatred for Marie was growing, and he wanted to let it out, but he didn't know where she was and how to fight her. He had to calm himself down for now as he needed to get their help, but for now he had to remain calm and gain their trust, because he wanted to trust them, and he wanted them to trust him.
“Just relax for today, you've been through a lot, and right now none of us really know what to expect when we go to fight Marie, or what to expect when we also fight her king Drazernon. For now just take things easy and work on a way to show my father you're trustworthy enough to fight alongside us. I swear to you, we will allow you revenge for what she had done, we all have a bit of anger towards them.” Marz said and clenched his fist, his tears welling up when he thought of his baby brother, he wanted to cry, but knew if Sean was there, he wouldn't want that, he'd want him to carry on. “She took him from us… she took my little brother, I'll make her pay for possessing him and getting him killed. For his sake, his wife’s sake and his children's sakes.” Marz said firmly.
“Someone so young had a wife and kids to take care of?” Mar asked, a bit surprised by what he had said, but wasn't surprised since a royal needed to continue his legacy even at the age of fourteen, or even fifteen.
“He does, his wife’s name is Harley, she's a sweet lady, she's almost eighteen, so there was a couple years between them, but she loved Sean, and he loved her. He also had triplets, his three sons are named Max, Ken and Sean Jr., they are still very little so they don't even remember their father, but I'll do everything I can to make sure they're raised right and grow up how Sean wanted them to.” Marz said softly, as he was worried how they'd break the news to Harley that Sean was killed.
Mar sighed softly as he sat there, and gently lied back, without a word. Marz knew he probably had a lot to think about and so he left the jackal to his own mind, knowing he'd probably need rest after everything that he had gone through. Marz silently left and headed off to his brothers room to see how Maxwell was doing. Upon entering, he saw Drax kneeling besides the bed, tears streamed from his eyes and onto the blanket as he was trying to stay composed, Marz knew that things weren't going well. The doctor had a sorrowful look in his eyes as he watched. “I'm sorry your majesty. We are doing all that we can, but… there's no telling if he will wake up, if at all. I'm sorry.” He said and gently wiped his eyes, before bowing and leaving him with his son.
When the room was empty except him and his sons, he silently began crying into the bed, not able to control himself anymore. He had already lost Sean, so the chance he might lose Maxwell also was enough on his heart to shatter it. Marz walked over and nuzzled his father as he sat beside him, he wasn't crying, even though he wanted to, he needed to be strong for his father in this time, staying there to comfort the older dragon.
Draco watched from the doorway, his anger rising towards Drazernon as he walked away angrily, his feet angrilly stepping with a lot of force, somewhat cracking the ground beneath them. “I won't allow another one to die. Drazernon will pay for this, but before I can do that, I need to get a spell to heal Maxwell.” He said to himself as he walked in anger, before memory struck him and he nodded “Lady Nomad, her old library has spellbooks if I remember, there has to be an answer there.” He said before quickly rushing to the palace’s lower floors, where the library was. Draco stood before it “forgive me for the intrusion Queen, but it's for the better of your children.” He said and vowed to no one in particular, before pushing the door open, and walking into the library.
