Following with Anubi's family, the next Evocanis is probably the most important in the big black Evocani's life. This is a character that is very dear to me because he tells the story of one of my main characters. He is the tall and shaggy Evo known as Lucas. Back when I created Anubi's back story, I was so inspired that I even dedicated a full chapter to this fellow. His story can be read in more detail in Chapter 9 of D.E1.
"Lucas is yet another survivor of the last attack to Canis Major. A really hurt Lucas walked through the fires of what was left of his Sector. He walked the few meters that could be his last. He was just 7 Canis Major years, which although made him an adult, he had barely lived his life enough to know what it was to be alone. His whole family had been brutally murdered or taken by the evil machines not a few hours ago...
Walking without knowing where he went, what was happening or what would happened, a bleeding and very weak Lucas just sought peace and comfort. Right when his last breath was about to come, he saw in the distance the terrifying shadows of those monsters approaching within the flames and wreckage. He was very young and experienced; even the oldest and strongest of Evos had no experience or knowledge on how to fight these machines.
Shedding his last tears for his lost family, he instinctively felt as he should give up. Maybe, beyond the stars he would be with his family again. But the faint yelps of a puppy tucked deep within the scraps made him take a decision that would change his life forever. He knew he couldn't give up just yet. His little Evocanis brother was even more defenseless than he was.
Who knows if it was the protective instinct Evos had for their kind, or the fact that Lucas just wanted to feel the warmth of his kind once more before fading into black. But that second that he decided to bury himself in the scraps and wrap his body around this little Evocanis shy of a year old, had gifted him with a second chance.
The machines were destroyed by the Retcan warriors that had set paw on Canis Major for the first time. Lucas had been given a chance, and that horrible moment he had endured with that little Evocanis would create a permanent bond between them. that little puppy grew up to be known as Anubis.
Lucas could be considered Anubi's "father" or more accurate to Evocanis terms: Adoptive Life Giver. And he sure is. Haven't Lucas embraced little Anubis that moment, the machines would've heard his yelps and they would not be alive today."
Lucas is probably the tallest of Evocanis you could ever encounter. That is natural, as in his ancestors time, he would be called an Irish Wolfhound; the largest breed of Canis Familiaris. Lucas spent his time after having survived, taking care of Anubis and learning ways to help his kind. He became a Zone Leader, specialized in medical science. He also has a fascination for cooking, which have made him into an outstanding cook. Ability that he has passed on to Anubis.
Lucas is a very sensitive Evocanis. Most of the times he will show himself very happy, helpful and in an overall good mood, but will often fall into depression caused by the trauma of what happened back in that last attack. He does his best to hide it not to worry his family (Anubis, Ace and Vin), but often these feelings are overwhelming. His best friend, Vin, a mixed German Shepherd Evo has been with him since that horrible day and helped him raise Anubis, together with Ace. But that story will be for the next ref sheet...
