Thin your paints! You've done an excellent job modelling the extra bits onto the figure, but a few coats of paint will really make the colors pop!

the paints ARE thinned, and I used 3-4 layers for most of them.  Tangle is made up of all the colors that never look good when photographed, white, grey, orange, yellow, it's basically sucky to paint color bingo with her.

What type and brand of paint are you using, out of curiosity? That can also have an effect on what you're trying to do.

mostly Folk Art satin acrylic, though her orange and darker gray bits are Citadel.

Ewww, Folk Art. Yeah, I never liked that brand. So the Citadel colors you pointed out, except for some spots in the tops of the ears, those definitely came out the best. Another coat of the orange on her wristguards there and you'd have been good to go, too.

actually only the dark gray on the inside of her ears is citadel, the lighter gray on her muzzle and outside of her ears are folk art.  I'd like to use citadel for all of my stuff but none of the stores in my area carry it, whatever I have is mailed to me from a friend who lives in another state.  Of course that isn't practical when you need to know exactly what the best shade is before using it so I can only ask for generic base colors.  Of all the paints I can buy Folk art is the best since it's the only one that doesn't need sealant or finish.

Another paint series that is picking up some steam is the Army Painter line, though that is getting mightily expensive.

Anyway, sorry to hold you about acrylic paints of all things.
