"Remember:", by Kate Leth 2013

Tina's story chapter 57 page 6 by Gray Muzzle and Zenia
set default image size: small | medium | wide
Given recent experiences both personal, and anecdotal, I think that this cute 2013 reminder bears repeating. Just because your typing on a computer doesn't mean you're not talking to, or about, a real person.
Don't be mean, don't offer unsolicited criticism, and reread what you type, before you hit 'send' Would YOU like to receive it? Better yet, why not hit 'save' and reread it tomorrow.
Bet you decide not to send it after all......

Who's "Kate Leth"?

The name of the image is called "Remember" and the artist who made it is Kate Leth. Its not asking people to remember the artist.

I can see how confusing it is though.

Might want to put "Remember" in quotes with a hyphen between it and the artist's name so it won't creat confusion

But a good message none-the-less and a lot of people tend to forget with screen anonymity that the person they just showered in hate is a real person with real feelings and real emotions. We need to bring back the idea of if you wouldn't say it in front of your mom you wouldn't say it to that person:c

There is...logic in what she says.

no, only emotion about how she wants to feel good about herself.

Wow!  I never knew Jack Nicholson could be such a jackass in movies!

Anyway, my point was that I was agreeing with the message about how not to act like an A-hole on the internet.

oh, holy shit i cannot agree more about asshole behaviour on the Internet.  on the quote from jack nicholson, that was the character he was playing in the film.  I have no idea if that line was scripted, or if it was unplanned.

Either way, the end result was hilarious, if rude.

Then i found this hilarious clip from 2, the ranting gryphon:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0jvGfa-I5DU

I must say, that i agree with him on his rant.

Yeah, I haven't seen that many movies with Jack Nicholson in them.  The only movie that I've seen (in its entirety) with him in it is "Mars Attacks".  I've seen a little bit of the Tim Burton Batman movie, but not all of it.  I was a kid when that movie came out and I wasn't overly interested in it, for some reason.

I'm no fan of Jack Nicholson either.  I have seen him in "Mars Attacks" and the Batman movie by Tim Burton but, I haven't seen him in very many other movies.  I don't know what it is about him but, I just can't bring myself to like him.

Check out Easy Rider. Very early Nicholson along with Peter Fonda and Dennis Hopper. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JgiQPdPUNvs (1969)

Of course, being a total asshole can be played for laughs, especially since we all can identify with it.
Putting your work on public display means that you WILL get a response, and that that response will likely be public. If you truly are troubled by other people's negativity, then sharing your work may not be for you.
But, civilization means rules. Not laws, things that MUST be done, under penalty of sanction, but rules; an understood set of conventions that we all accept and enforce upon ourselves. I hate censorship; I'm fully supportive of shunning people who don't play well with others. In most cases, such individuals have nothing positive to contribute, but rather, having nothing to offer, engage others by being deliberately mean or confrontational.

This kind of goes along with the whole "If you can't say anything nice, don't say anything." If somebody actually asks for some feedback on their art and I feel inclined, I always try to find more good things they did and give one concrete thing that could use improvement (even if there are lots of things). I also thank the artist for posting their art. They don't have to do that. Most of them get better over time if they aren't turned off doing art by one too many assholes.

my issue with leaving comments is well....I feel pretty stupid after posting cause I can never think of a good post other then coll picture half the time and just keep repeating it sometimes and plus i doubt two words would mean much to the artist reading it.

Remember: this is an art gallery website, not a chat group.

It's generally frowned upon to post other's art without linking back to the source and without any indication of having permission from the original artist. (Also there's the misleading titling issue of phasing it "Remember, person's name, year-date" that looks like an obituary/memorial.)

Warning against one form of internet rudeness by committing one or more other forms of internet taboo kinda defeats the message.

This seems more appropriate for a journal linking to a page that's supposed to be hosting the image, since anything posted as a submission is de facto implied to be of at least partial ownership of the poster on sites like this one or FA and SF.

I have had my fair share of assholes telling me how bad my art is. I dare challenge them to do better. Most of them quickly leave. I did have one who dared to argue back and stated that his artwork was too good to post up here and would not post his "talented artwork to a bunch of assholes." Inkbunny Admins killed his account and from that I can tell - blocked him.

in the comic genre, usual rules don't apply. Look at 'Peanuts'. Great art? Hardly. Great comic strip? Well, it has to be one of the most successful of all times. Same with 'B.C.' and 'The Family Circle'. All extremely successful comics with a different style to them. We've received the same kind of comments. Just the other day, we had a blogger review 'Tina' and really trash it. But why did they even review it? Because it's so successful!
Reminds me of the Yogi Berra comment "Nobody goes there anymore- it's always too crowded"

My challenge is a "trick question" Picasso once did to one of his critics. "Do Better," as odd as it may sound, can not happen. People can not compare, lets say, the Mona Lisa vs. The Last Supper vs. The Peanuts. This statement is not about style or technique but of applied talent. One can say a lot with just a few lines on paper/canvas like a Pollock or Picasso than one can do with a whole tapestry of color and patterns. If it does not capture one's imagination and makes them think, then it is not art. It is something but it is not art.

I agree with you wholeheartedly on this. This is not about style or ability but it is about those who can - do vs. those who can't - bitch and complain about those who did and on what they did. It is to them that I dare throw at them "Do Better. Let see what you got!" Sad thing is 99% of them run away with their tails between their legs when I challenge them so.

Well, that's because someone who themselves produces content generally doesn't do shit like that, because they understand how hard it is just to create, and to put your 'child' in public view, and wait for the comments.
In general, I've been lucky. That's not to say that I'm immune. I've gotten it for Zenia's art, and I've been told that I'm a crappy writer.
My response, however is different. I don't aspire to being a great writer. I don't even claim the title. I am a 'producer of content'; I put out a product for people's amusement. Simple as that. No redeeming artistic or social value necessary. Read it, smile, move on. If you don't like it, skip steps one and two. Not considering myself a great artist, or any artist at all, it bothers me not that you don't consider me one.
Hey, dealing with people's negativity is hard. But the positive response is so overwhelmingly positive, I can deal with it.

I'm sorry people posting mean things is hurting you and your artists' feelings, but don't let your self esteem live and die based on a few loudmouths.  If you do, you're dooming yourself to be miserable for as long as you post things online and empowering those loudmouths to continue what they're doing.

Thanks for your kindness; believe me, I've gotten every kind of comment you can imagine in the last ten years!
Where I draw the line is when people make comments based on age/sex/religion/sexual orientation, handicaps and so forth. That I have zero tolerance, and will get you a one time and your out ban.

I defninitely believe it.  I've actually had a lot of fun engaging the loudmouths, and a good number of them are only bigoted because they didn't understand or saw some smear piece on the news that painted us in a bad light.

I've even caught flak from other furries in the past because I like cubs.  Can you believe that?  People, actively engaged in fantasy kinks judging me for mine.  xD

I believe that people have the right to the fantasies of their choosing. This is a 'no judgment' zone.
