U{DATE B: I did some fiddling... and you have no idea how long it took me to figure out the reason that the engine flame wouldn't work is because the command is "gotoAndStop" not "goToAndStop"... I mean... I feel like they use the lowercase naming convention for the first word for a reason... so why is the second word not uppercase... I'm sure there are reasons, but it irks me. I am most assuredly vexed. Harrumph! >=\
Edit: The file size is also at that point where I guess I need to add a preloader. Guess I should hurry up and finish that tutorial on how to get it all to work together, haha. XD

UPDATE A: decided to fiddle with some of the numbers and experiment with the scoreboard.

LOL! Crap, I forgot to tell you the controls, didn't I? Arrows to move, space to shoot.

If the game even works... then Slight technical hiccup in posting the wrong file, lol. Bonus points if you recognise the ships, as if that's difficult. X3

OH! Also, I'd be interested to know your high score -- or rather, your KILLS: DEATHS: SCORE ratio.

So I spent most of yesterday on a random Flash game tutorial... I'm not sure if I actually learned anything, as it was mostly just copying and pasting the code, and I had basically figured out a lot of it myself... aside from the whole packages and classes thing, and how to connect them, I guess?

Although, as an artist, I did evidently spend an exorbitant amount of time trying to make everything look pretty. Hence the spaceships.

I actually started with the retro, skull and crossbones fighter... I actually really like it... but then when I got to the part with the enemy ships, I realised I could make them look like something from a particular franchise, so voila.

I did make SOME slight alterations to the code, like putting in a timer to limit how frequently the enemy ships could fire, and the "respawn" animation -- while at the same time preventing the enemy ships from firing on the player while ghosted, and firing while they were exploding themselves. Lol, that was funny when it happened. Bugs, am I right?

Which brings us to now... sound effects. There was music and explosions... and I found the wilhelm scream too, because I thought that would be funny... BUT something went wrong. I don't know, they just sort of looped wrong, and looped indefinitely when they weren't supposed to, so... needs more research into how to use music and sound effects properly. It was working perfectly at one point, but... I've no idea what changed.

On a somewhat related note: In addition to Quake 1, I've been playing a lot of DOOM lately. The original. The best.

In a world that has DOOM, how the can anyone hope to compete? I'm out of my league, here...

... but nobody else seems inclined towards the particular game design I have in mind. It isn't even that complicated, really. It's just, like... nobody else realises that certain pieces of the jigsaw puzzle can fit into different slots... and create a very different picture.

I guess that's a bug then? Also... this seems to indicate that the font isn't right. Ah well. Just more work to figure out. =P
