‘‘simba, look’‘, sarabi adverted with a smile, having trapped a small mouse under her paw for her son to catch. the dry season could be cruel, even with its random yet scarce rains, but she was determined to help him out become a real hunter like her and her husband. the cub puffed his chest up with a smile, bouncing a little so she could release the rodent and catch it quickly himself. done this, sarabi observed him eat, looking around for something else. everything was going so well...

but suddenly, her ears twitched, and she looked around, alert. no... this scent... this sensation... she diverted her head to his son, who had quickly eaten the mice and had begun to play around with a twig.

‘‘simba... quick, the thicket!’‘, she said, prompting him to run alongside her. and that’s when her suspicions had proven to be real.

the first gunshot.

they barely escaped it, and sarabi knew she soon wouldn’t be able to catch up to her son.

‘‘faster! faster, simba!’‘

the urguing tone of his mother’s voice sent a terrible chill through simba’s body, and he forced himself to leap as fast as his tiny body could allow him.

‘‘don’t look back! keep running!...’‘

after the second gunshot, he forced himself to look straight forward instead of turning his head to check if his mother was okay and/or catching up to him. the drizzle that had begun moments prior made his running slippery at times, but he had to go faster... faster... faster!

third gunshot.

simba wasn’t even thinking of anything in particular, just run away like his mother had told him to. his little limbs hurt from running so much but he couldn’t give up now. finally, he dove head first into the thicket, dropping himself on his belly to regain his breath.

‘‘we made it... we made it, mom!’’, he exclaimed, huffing but smiling in satisfaction through it. ‘‘we...’‘

no response.

I'm 100% sure this I'm not the first person who's had this idea of combining TLK's characters with Bambi's story. I have to admit I got inspired by a couple of Tumblr posts who made side-to-side comparisons of Simba and Mufasa with Bambi and his father, Ronno with Kovu, and so on. At the same time, I haven't seen any fanart of this idea, or at least not much, so I thought I'd give it a try X)
This scene is obviously based on Bambi's mother's death. As it turns out, Sarabi is the one that dies instead of Mufasa. I've been really uninspired/unmotivated to finish art lately but I really wanted to finish this. I have another drawing involving this AU as well so I might finish that too in the incoming days. I'm not really happy with the anatomy since running is one of the hardest things to draw for me, but wewh-
