In some Video Games, there are areas that would be too easy if you were allowed to continue using your current weapons and abilities. As such, these types of games can temporarily revoke your usage of Weapons and Abilities to balance it out. This is known as “Arbitrary Gameplay Restrictions”.
One example is in the 2008 Alone in the Dark game (what a failure that was). During one part of the game, you have to go through this temple known as the “Path of Light”, which consists mostly of puzzles in the darkness. Your character carries a flashlight with him through the entire game, but to prevent the player from cheating in the Darkness Puzzles, magic energy disables it while in the Temple.
Leon here is doing something called “The Test of Athleticism”, where he has to descend a long chasm on various platforms. Normally, if he had his thick disposable diaper on, he could jump down with no worry about injury. However, in order to pass the test, his diaper was taken and he’s now clad in a thin pair of training pants, which offer no protection to fall damage.
