This is true even for normal relationships, with average backgrounds. This is even more true when two people are from different worlds. An ex-super-soldier-now-cop and a treasure-hunting billionaire, for example.
Forget that one had been accused of being a Cano-Supremacist who had been hiding his identity for years. Forget that one was a single father who had been vilified for being a playboy dilettante by those on his home planet, and was even more detested on a far-off star. (...well, actually, it was a planet orbiting the same star, but that doesn’t sound as poetic.) Even without those, what kind of bridge could cross so vast a chasm between their lives?
When they were from two different circles, when it seemed every eye was on them, how could it ever work?
Pure, organic chemistry.
What started out as a purely-by-chance hookup turned into more adventure than either of them had expected. It was rare any man ever found another who made him feel entirely like himself in a world that insisted he put on masks. But two men finding that in each other? That was more precious than... than a mystical gemstone revered by an entire nation.
Not that that was the only thing. A uniform fetish on one side may have contributed. A liking of tight-fitting athletic wear on the other helped as well. And from both sides, the illicit thrill that their union, crossing class and race, gave a large number of close-minded bigots the vapors and sent them running for the fainting couches, clutching their pearls? That was the frosting on their complete breakfast.
It didn’t hurt they both looked great in just their fur.

Tony was almost as requested for cross-sequels as Nanaki. And that was before I moved him closer to on-model.
I think this is the pairing that I like the most, honestly? I think about it a lot more than others, at least. We’ve been writing extensively about their history...really should bring some of that to light, eventually.
Retcons ripple, and this entry no longer involves Exile having caught Kit and Kat mid coitus. That is a separate story.
