"Okay, let's get this shirt on... and now the shorts over your diapers... done! Take a look at yourself in the mirror... what do you think?"
"I think I look like a total wienerschnitzel, Clyde."
"Aw, come on! It's Oktoberfest! Don't you want to celebrate your German heritage?"
"German what now?"
"Where do you think Gummi Bears come from? Here, put on this hat."
"Now I look like I should be falling into a garbage can on The Price is Right."
"Seriously, Byron. The girls are going to love you in lederhosen."
"Then why don't YOU wear some too?!"
"No way! I'd look like a total wienerschnitzel."
The most fun part of toddlerhood is being dressed in all kinds of ridiculous costumes that will make you regret your existence years later, when you find the photos in a family album. Actually, now that I think about it, that's more fun for the grown-ups than for you.
I had lederhosen on my mind after looking up pictures of the Care Bears and finding several of them sporting that attire. It wasn't uncommon for the fuzzy wuzzies to wear zany outfits in the Nelvana series, but a Google Image Search revealed that they were wearing lederhosen in the earlier DiC series as well.
I don't have any theories for this. However, Hazzardwolf surmised that because the Care Bears were created in Ohio, a state with a heavy German population, they'd be inclined to wear traditional German clothing when they weren't running around naked. Seems logical enough. It could also just be that brightly colored bears look cute in lederhosen, but Byron isn't so convinced of that.
