As the outside starts to get cooler, our basements will provide nice warm areas for crickets to migrate. So while I was running the Central Vermont Mogul with a short freight, I noticed a cricket crossing the track. Instinctively, I sounded the engines whistle and that cricket dashed across the track to get out of the way. So you thought it was over? Nah!. When the train passed, the cricket reversed direction and walked back across the tracks . Didn't see him for the rest of the operating session. Seems to be a cute moment in Hi Rail Hi Jinks.
Naturally, I was inspired.

I used to take the LIRR to college until 1963, when my folks and I moved to NYC and then to NJ in 1969. I didn't take the LIRR again until 2007 when I used it to (1)revisit my old hometown and walk to my old home last seen in 1963. and (2) to Hollis,LI,NY to attend a memorial service for a deceased old friend.
