You can easily be jealous of the cosmetic presentation of it, certainly. But fundamentally, those who pine about the "good old days" are delusional. The 80s were filled with economic uncertainty, the Cold War still in full icy blast, and all the bigoted cultural nastiness of these Trump years quite present with Reagan in the White House, albeit being homosexual now is much easier than it was then. But we enjoyed the music, the clothes, the original runs of the Star Trek and Star Wars franchises, Saturday morning cartoons, video game arcades and not having to be in charge of everything just yet. And Prince WAS an entirely unique and spectacular performer, time and place irrelevant.

The reason why I asked my question is because I know that some people miss those times when they never actually lived them, but I believe that is what others refer to as nostalgia. Like you said, the music, the clothes, the entertainment, etc.
Delusional, I like that word. The reason why I asked my question is because I know that some people
Nostalgia really means when you long for some personally cherished thing from your own past. For example this wonderful video here, is highly nostalgic for me because I grew up with and in shopping mall video game arcades in the 1980s, when the rock group Journey was very big on the radio: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1YE4S5i6atY The delusion bout the past occurs in one way when people judge a past era strictly by the very self-flattering pop culture portrayals of that time, without either knowing or finding out what things were really like back then. Another delusion occurs when people remember the past through what Americans call "rose colored glasses": deliberately remembering only the best of the past (usually their own experiences and nothing more) while carefully ignoring all the ugliness of the past that we really don't need any more, and should not want again. I enjoy the pop culture of the 80s, but I don't want to return to the fears of the Cold War, economic bad times, and cultural ugliness of the past.

Allow me to be more specific. What do you call it when a person experiences a nostalgic feeling about periods in time the person never actually lived in? For example, is it possible to miss someone you never met? So, when people experience that nostalgic feeling, what is that known as or called?
Certainly a nice video, and you have a good point too. I assume that is the reason why we have that saying 'be careful what you wish for'. I think you would enjoy the movie 'Pixels', with Adam Sandler.

You describe feelings I'm certain everyone has known. I certainly have. I do not have the education to properly answer your challenge, unfortunately. Now, there is "Deja Vu", where you get the strong sensation of having experienced something before, although you might have no rational reason to feel that way. But what you describe is more specific than that.

I'm as certain as you are other people have experience the same feelings. My English is not good enough, so I cannot explain myself better. What I want to know has no importance, anyway.
Your time is always appreciated, thank you.
