Standing in front of the mirror, is Skyler.
An albino hamster with short, green hair.
She scans her reflection.
Searching heavily for flaws in her appearance.
”My clothes look good.
My fur is clean and neat.
I freshly dyed my hair yesterday.
I think I’m good.”
Skyler thinks to herself out loud.
No one else is home to hear her.
”He should be here any minute now!”
She nearly shouts with joy.
Knock! Knock!
”Right on time as usual Psych.”
Skyler greets the grey raccoon as he opens the door.
”How could I be late to spend time with you?”
Chuckles Psych as he steps into the house.
Psych pulls Skyler into a friendly embrace as the door closes behind them.
Their hearts pound in their chests as the hug persists.
They share a silent love, neither brave enough to tell the other.
Until tonight, Skyler has a secret date plan.
To Psych today will be a normal day between good friends
With a small romantic flame, burning the friendly night
Creating passionate ashes that will bring them closer.
Tonight is the night she will once again confess her love for him.

With Skyler’s backpack ready for the day
The two friends head out side by side, ready for anything.
They begin walking down the road to their first destination, Cluttered.
A local super store that they hang out at.
The day’s heat makes the short walk feel long and tiresome.
Along the worn and damaged roads,
The two friends cheerfully chat back and forth.
From gossip to new technology
And everything in between.
Civil debates spark and resolve as the large building looms into sight.
As Cluttered grows closer, the location becomes the object of conversation.
Rumors and obscure information seep from
The many mysterious and strange characters found here.
When the pair approach the familiar doors and enter,
They are immediately greeted by the shelves full of food, drinks, and other supplies.
The air is cool and the ailes are busy during the midday heat.
”It’s extra busy today. Lunch will be more hectic than usual.”
Says Psych while surveying the store with a look of annoyance.
”Yeah, looks like it. Oh well! Let’s get some food!”
Skyler says while taking Psych’s hand to guide him into the busy ailes.
She weaves in between the carts, baskets, and bodies.
Past the snacks, pre-packaged meals, and the drinks full of stimulants
Before halting abruptly in the meat section.
”Hmm. What sounds good today?”
Skyler asked herself aloud as Psych picked up a bit of warm brisket.
In the corner of her eye she watches Psych turn away.
As his back is turned she swiftly and silently picked up
More brisket and some ham before turning around
to head towards the root beer ailse.
Neither of the two stop completely to pick up
A few bottles of the sweet brown liquid.
”Psych, I wanna go pick up something else.
Go ahead and check out. I will meet you up there.”
Skyler turned away from Psych with a quick wave.
As she sprints to the other side of the store where
She finds an aisle of candles and other crafts.
Her eyes jump from color to color until she finds light pink ones.
It smells of rose petals, perfect for a romantic meal.
Towards the front of the store, the check out lines are long,
But move swiftly with ever smiling cashiers.
Skyler picks the line closest to where Psych is waiting.
In no time she’s paid for the food and items,
Stuffing them in her backpack and walking towards her love.
”It looks like my plans are working perfectly so far!”
Thinks Skyler as she gives Psych a hug.

As they normally would, the two begin to set out towards the pet graveyard
After eating the lunch they had just purchased.
Skyler packed away the extra serving of brisket in an insulated pouch,
Hidden away from Psych’s sight, along with the floral candles.
She can’t reveal the romantic picnic she has planned at dusk.
While the pair walk and talk down the damaged road,
She walks closer until their arms and paws brush.
With a bright, pink blush Sky grabs Psych’s paw.
Their conversation continues uninterrupted,
He flashes a smile in her direction, gives her paw a light, caring squeeze.
Skyler’s pace quickens, she appears to have gained a certain cheerful bounce.
Soon they arrive and survey the area.
Psych is the caretaker of this morbid place.
A watcher of the graveyard’s inhabitants.
He’ll walk around a for a few hours with Sky in tow,
Performing small chores while he shares new stories with her.
She listens intently, every word forming a song in her heart.
A song of passion and desire, urging her to share these feelings.
The sun begins to set after the first few hours of Psych’s patrol,
When Psych spots a family of servals entering the graveyard.
The father carries an object wrapped in a black, dirty blanket.
The two young ones are sobbing loudly, inconsolable
For the young, first time mother, who has tears in her eyes.
Psych approaches them, bends down to offer a hug to the two cubs.
One of the two little boys sobs in Psych’s arms.
The other hides shyly behind his parents.
The family doesn’t greet Psych through their grief stricken sobs.
Psych stands up and asks the parents while pointing to the bundle.
”What’s your beloved’s name?”
”Snowy...She’s our first dog...She lived for 10 happy years...”
Replied the mother in between sobs.
”It’s okay ma’am. May I help you find the perfect spot for Snowy to rest?”
She nods and turns to her kids who have stumbled into her legs to comfort her.
”Alright. Sir, would you like me to carry her for you?”
He silently nods and gives their deceased pet over to Psych.
He leads the grieving family over to a peaceful area under a tree,
A special place he’s reserved for the canines who passed.
He glances over to the family and asked each feline individually
”Do you think Snowy would like this resting spot?
It’s quiet and peaceful. The perfect resting spot for one so loved.”
The little ones crack small smiles as the comforting words soothe their pain,
The parents hug one another and nod through their grief.
”Okay. Would you like to stay while I begin putting together the funeral?
If not then I will be done in about an hour and you can come back for your last words.”
The family agrees to come back after treating the kids to frozen desserts.
Psych digs a neat hole more than large enough to place the dog.
He prefers ample space in the graves to make it look more comfortable,
To make the graves look like strange beds.
The time passes swiftly as Skyler watches Psych work passionately.
Before she knows it, she is witnessing another one of Psych’s
Magical pet funerals, the grief is not sickening like normal death ceremonies.
Instead it’s filled with meaningful silence and heart felt stories full of cheer.
After the family says their last words to their beloved Snowy,
Psych places the blanket into the grave and swiftly, but carefully fills it in.
He gives the children one last hug and reassures them they can visit Snowy any time.
When the family leaves, Skyler suggests it’s dinner time.
”We should sit and eat for a bit Psych. I’m getting hungry.”
”Probably. Where do you want to get food? We ate it all at lunch.”
”Follow me. I have a surprise for you.”
She led him over to an open area and took out a blue and pink blanket.
As she set out the food, Psych begins to realize Sky is up to something.
He quietly sat and watched her as she took out two pink candles.
She sat across from him and smiled shyly before lighting the candles.
Shades of pink and orange begin to shine across the ground
As the sun begins to slowly set, adding beautiful rays to their dinner.
He begins to blush as he realizes she planned a surprise date.
They begin to chat once more, but with flirtatious flare.
Soon they both are giggling and blushing hard.
Skyler catches Psych’s gaze, they begin to lean towards each other.
Both hesitate, so close to sharing the night’s first kiss with the setting sun behind them.
His nerves get the best of him and right before he backs away,
She leans forward more for their lips to meet.
Their love sparks once more as the new couple ends the magical moment.
Psych wraps an arm around her and together they watch the moon rise.

A Mind of Confusion - short poem
The Paths of Destiny - medium poem
This is a story I wrote for a friend of mine. It features his characters in the post apocalyptic world he created. I really like his very detailed back story for these two young lovers. He wanted a happier scene written for the depressing world they live in and I feel like I was able to create that. It was a lot of fun to write! Written on 8/16/2016.

Characters are owned by CrazyPsycho2595 (FA).
Written by me, Fane Star.
