One day, you're 'Mary Sue' the next 'can't we go back to the old Tina' as soon as it gets heavy.
How do people feel about this?

Maybe it's just me but i find the whole upgrade to VIP status that they use for "celebs and politicians" a bit over the top just because they are golf buddies..
That's like someone getting a 80% discount when buying a big yacht just because they are diving buddies..
O well i'm sure that the doc will be most glad to pay the difference out of his own pocket

I have mixed feelings as well. Transferring to the furry world, I have problems with the 'super sponsor' scheme at Anthrocon. Pay extra, and you get a host of benefits, from jumping long lines, to fast pre registration, to up front reserved seating, to first shot at the best hotels. On one hand, it keeps basic reg affordable; on the other, it creates a system of 'haves' and have nots' where you become a second class system. They even sell 'elevator rights' that allow you to line jump. It's nice, assuming you can afford it.

But it IS kinda important for donors and high ranking polititians to be treated as a VIP in a hospital (if they'd be even brought in a 'simple' hospital for the latter one). Those are important people, either from a medical, or from a sociological standpoint. I don't know if the chief of surgery could just  set a patient to such an extremely high level, especially if it's an anthro and there's a huge two class 'racist' problem about anthros and humans. While he probably can make orders for such a switch, it usually tends to have repercussions... unless he's Doctor House, but even House was close to getting fired more than once.
Now celebrities on the other hand, that is kinda over the top, they shouldn't really be treated differently, but that's my oppinion. They already have the money to just go to a better hospital, their life shouldn't be more worth than the one of an ordinary guy.

Yes i agree fully that donors and "high ranking" politicians  should get that extra bit of service because they have the money and standing for it.. .. no matter what gender , race or background..
But if i was in a hospital and got wind of the fact that someone got preferential treatment to such a extent just because he or she or they were buddies with one of the staff then of course i would be pissed ..
Not at the person who gets "better treatment" but at the hospital for making the rest of us normal working joes feel like second class..
and from personal experiences i know that the halls of a hospital can be a buzz with gossip and rumors even about other patients.. so someone could become a little bit peed off in this story too... and i'm gonna give a guess here and say that it will be Tina's mom who will be blowing her top for what the doc did ... no matter how well his intentions were.

Oh I actually thought that he meant organ donors and not money donors who payed for a hospital wing or something who got VIP and preferential treatment :P

Doctors are supposed to be able to keep a certain level of professional distance in the doctor , patient relationship though .. and that also includes not giving preferential treatment..

Actually i am actually starting to wonder ..
what makes VIP treatment in this hospital better then the treatment that other "normal" patients are getting? ..
sure ok i can think that he will get his own room in the ICU but that doesn't exactly scream VIP ..

Are we thinking a tier system in this hospital where the patients with the lowest income are all packed in one big room or being sent home far sooner then the more well off patients and get treated by Olga the Polar bear who says lines like
"you got dislocated arm?.. Olga Fix" where by she relocates the arm and sends the patient back home to recover?..

and the VIP class patient get two sexy mink personal nurses with skirts that are almost too short and who come to feed you and fluff your pillow ?

Simply put, it is ALWAYS better to be a celebrity.
