Stray Dog
Chapter 1
Pain. That's all I can remember, for as long as I can remember. My tail still twitches at the thought of all the things that have gone wrong with my life. It seems that in this world there is no good, no hope, no... love. I feel like there can't possibly be any reason to stay in this realm of being. That would explain why my parents put me in this room with this asshole who thinks he's a "psychologist" and I'm on antidepressants. They don't work, the medication I mean, in fact they make it worse. Not one person in this damn institute understands the complexity of my hurt, this pain that never goes away. My chest feels like it's going to explode, then shrivel and disintegrate into the very nothingness this world consists of.
Everyone, including mother and father, call me by my first name: Davis. My full name though is Davis Alexandre Johnson and quite frankly what I am betrays what I feel like. I'm a mouse in a wolf's body. My fur white the color of snow, my eyes a silvery blue, and my headfur black as pitch, straight, and shoulder length. I try to work out, but most of my time is spent at the library. I don't have any friends, I don't need'em. Being alone for so long has given me peace of mind, gives me time to become top of my class. I'm 17, almost 18 and I'm not excited about college. It's not college I'm displeased about; it's the other people I have to deal with.
It's March 15, the day I get out of this dump. As it turns out, I'm really good at acting like I give a damn about the world. I get home, I unpack, and I jump into my waterbed and almost immediately I'm asleep. The next morning I get up, pull off all my clothes. I look into my full length mirror at the only person I can trust. I look good, no imperfections to ruin my day. I pull on a black muscle shirt, still looking good. Next, black silk boxers followed by leather pants, same colour. I look great today. I then throw on a leather vest, you guessed it, black. Finally, black socks and black hiking boots. I look fantastic. Now my favorite piece, a black leather dog collar. I bought it with my own money. I pick up my backpack and head out the door.
Ten minutes for breakfast, damn. Who knew changing ones clothes could take so long. I grab a piece of toast and jog out the door. Running full speed, I was able to catch the school bus. I sat in the back of the bus and waited for what seemed like a hellish eternity.

After a long day, I head to the local burger shop. I order my usual then sit at my usual table and wait for my food. As I waited, I notice a wolf sitting at another table. His fur is black, his eyes are dark brown, he has a head of short platinum headfur, and he looks like he knows his way around a gym. He's wearing a white T-shirt with white dress pants. Even his sneakers are white. Then this wolf got up and started walking towards me. For some reason I felt panicked. He sat down in front of me. "Hi" he said, his voice was clear and smooth. I felt so hot, like I was on fire. He chuckled, showing off his very pearly whites. I felt almost dizzy. "Hello" I replied. What's happening to me, what is this I'm feeling? "Who're you?" he asked, a totally acceptable question. "I-I-I'm Davis." I managed to get out. He chuckled again, I now notice a silver earring in his left ear, its pattern was intriguing. "My name is Ivan, it is a pleasure to make your acquaintance." he said, extending his paw. I reached out and clumsily shook it. "L-likewise" again I was having trouble talking, what is going on, I'm usually so articulate. One of the employees came by and placed my food in front of me and Ivan's in front of him. I absently started picking up fries and placed them in my mouth, Ivan apparently doing the same. "So, which school do you go to?" another legitimate question. "Furwood Academy" I said, his eyes lit up immediately. He swallowed and exclaimed "I go there, too!" then a look of confusion crossed his muzzle "Why have I never seen you at school? Are you a dropout?" he asked. I shake my head and reply "Hardly, I was in the hospital" I took a bite out of my burger, swallowed, and continued "Not the one in town, the mental hospital. No I'm not crazy, just 'clinically depressed'" I air-quoted. He lowered his head "Sorry" he crooned. I smiled, ME, I Smiled and replied "Why are you sorry? You had nothing to do with why I was there. You're not the reason my parents don't trust me alone with the silverware anymore. They think I'm suicidal, I'm not but it's a problem." He shook his head, "No that's not what I meant. I meant 'sorry you suffered'." "Oh" is all I could say. It was silent for a moment. "So, which classes do you have?" he asked. I reached in my pocket and handed him my list of courses. He read it quickly then handed it back, "We've got two classes together." "Which ones?" I asked, sincerely curious. He replied "Five and seven." His phone went off. He answered it. The call was short. "Who was that?" I asked. He shrugged and replied, "Father asked what I was doing. Thought maybe I'd want to go to my brother's soccer game. I said I was eating with a friend and that I'd go another time." He finished what was left of his food and sat idle while I finished mine. When I was he picked up both trays, dumped them out, and set them on the counter. He came back and sat down. He then placed a paw on one of mine. I looked up at him and suddenly realized that I had been shaking. I felt hot again. The phone in my pocket rang, making me nearly jump out of my fur. I answered, it was father. "Hey Davis, can you tell me where you put the nozzle for the air compressor?" I heard on the speaker. I sighed, "On the shelf right next to it, dad." I can see him pull the phone away from his head as he calls out multiple oaths. Putting the phone back up to his ear, he says "Thanks, son" and hangs up. I close my phone and put it in my pocket. "Everything alright?" he asked. "Yep, couldn't be better" I replied.  After sitting for a moment, I stood up. I looked at him, "I'm off, would you like to come with me? I was thinking of heading over to the park." He got up, nodded and replied "I'd love to. Heck, we can go in my car." We paid our bills and headed out the door, talking like we've known each other for a long time.
We pulled up to the curb and got out. He had an umbrella with him, one of those ones made of treated paper like in feudal Japan. "What's that for?" I asked. He chuckled and pointed up. I look and sure enough, there are clouds nearly darker than pitch hovering just overhead. As if on cue, it starts raining. He opened it and held it over us, but doing so would mean close quarters. Would he feel how hot I was getting? Wait, what was that? I think he grazed my leg with his tail. Oh, man this is not looking good. He's grabbed my arm now, he's just... rubbing. He's got his head on my shoulder now. What's going on? I guess I can stand it. The view is stunning, trees everywhere opening up to a huge lake. I feel something inside, an instinct. I lay my head on his. He murrs softly as we stand there and I feel like I could stand there, forever.
The next day I wake up earlier than normal. My phone is ringing, Ivan's name shows on the caller ID. I answer it. "Hello, why the early call?" I ask. I hear him chuckle on the other end, "I thought you'd like to have breakfast with me today. You up for it?" "I'd love to. Give me half an hour and pick me up at my house, 'kay?" I say, overjoyed. We said our goodbyes and hung up. Immediately, I strip in three and a half seconds, a new personal record. I get in my bathroom, lock the door and hop in the shower.
I'm almost perfect when I hear the doorbell. I find my collar and put it on. Perfect. I grab my backpack and leave my room. "Hey, who was that at the door?" I call. I hear a familiar voice call back, "That would be me." I run to the top of the stairs and who do I see but the one, the only, "Ivan!" I bolt down the stairs as fast as I can. "I wish we could get him out of bed that fast." I hear mother say behind me. I whirl around and see her with a smile on her face, father next to her with the same expression. "It's so nice that Davis has finally found a friend to play with." mother says. I roll my eyes, "Mom, don't embarrass me." We all have a laugh at that, say our farewells and Ivan and I go out the door. We walk down the path to his car, he opens the door for me, I sit down, he closes it and walks around. The interior is amazing and sleek, one of the things I love about it. He gets in on his side and starts the car. It runs magnificently. I lean over and lean on his shoulder as we pull away.
We pull up to a building that looks like it hadn't been in use for a while. There are other cars. I wonder what this place is. He looks at me, "This is the place. C'mon, let's go." I get out, and I see other people coming out and going in. There's a smell about this place that was absolutely delicious. He takes my arm and leads me towards the entrance. He opens the door and I walk in. It's a Japanese-style restaurant! I can't read any of the signs though. I feel Ivan nudge so I look at his smiling face. "Don't worry, I can read Japanese. I'll help you order. Oh! Here comes the waiter! Bow." We both bow and the waiter bows back and leads us to our table. We bow again and take our seats. "So what would you like? A kamikaze? Or maybe a California roll?" he asks. I shrug "Whatever you order I guess." He shakes his head "No, I don't think you'd like what I'd order. The amount of wasabi is bit much." I put down the menu "Well, what do you suggest?" He sits back, obviously thinking about it. Then a knowing look comes across his face "I got it!" He turns and calls a waiter in Japanese. He orders for us and turns back to me as the waiter walks away. "So, what did you get me?" I ask. "You'll see." is his reply. As we wait I can't help but study the lines of his body, tracing them with my eyes. He turns to me and quietly says "The food is here, Davis." I look down at the table and to my surprise there's a banquet in front of me. Then I notice a small thing that looks like a dish, I can't remember what they're called. "What's that?" I ask, pointing at it. "Sake" he says around a mouthful of food. I feel my eyes nearly pop out of my head. He chuckles "Don't worry. It's fine. They let you have one drink of the stuff and it's not at all bad." I pick the thing up and sniff it. Doesn't smell offensive. I drink and suddenly my throat is aflame with the burn of alcohol. "If I didn't know any better I'd say you've been drinking the stuff all your life." he said, gazing warmly at me. I nod and start eating. He was right, this stuff is good. He finishes before I do so he calmly sits there and watches me eat. When I finish he hands me a fortune cookie. I take it and break it open. The fortune made me smile. It read: "Love for you is hard to come by, but when you do that love is forever". Ivan read it too and smiled. We looked at each other for what seemed like an eternity. Then we start inching toward each other. My heart was thudding inside my ribcage. I feel quite warm. My ears are pounding with blood. Then our lips touched and a wave of feeling washes over me. I feel like I'm in heaven.

Class Two: English
Class Three: History
Class Four: Advanced Chemistry
Class Five: Anatomy Just as he said. He was here. So we sat next to each other. We passed notes back and forth, giggling like idiots. The teacher stared daggers at us repeatedly. When the bell rang, we got up and held hands as we left the class.
Class Six: Sculpture
Class Seven: Physical Education (AKA Gym) Two for two. Lo and behold he was here too. So we ran together. The coach pulled us aside and asked us if we would like to be on the same team for the upcoming tennis competition. We both said yes because apparently we both liked tennis, him more than me. The bell rang and we headed to the parking lot. When we got out, there was his car like something out of a millionaire’s garage.
I walk in the door and let the wonderful smell of burgers fill me. Ivan follows me in. I walk up to the cashier; the guy is pretty nice for a badger. I give him our orders then sit down at my usual table, Ivan sitting next to me. We sat there cuddling until a fox came by to give us our food. He is a cute fox. "This explains so much" the fox said. I look at him and ask "Excuse me?" He sits down in front of us. "I've been watching you for a while Davis, but it looks like I missed my chance. I'm Donavan by the way, call me Dom." They shake hands. "Now, may I ask who this is?" Ivan nods. "Name's Ivan." I could see Ivan's hackles rise just a bit. As they continue their conversation, I nuzzle Ivan's chest listening to his voice. He places a paw on my head and ruffles my headfur just a little. I murr softly, not loud enough to really be heard by anyone, but I'm sure Ivan can feel the vibrations. I can tell because he just musses my hair a little more.
I wake up in the back seat of Ivan's car, and laying on him. He snores softly. I don't want to wake him so I just lie there, watching him breathe. Suddenly I feel his arms wrap around my shoulders. Now I can't get up even if I wanted to, but I don't care. I could lie here all night just watching my body rise and fall with every one of his breaths. He curls his tail around mine and I fall back into a blissful slumber.
My alarm goes off and I jolt up. I don't remember how I got here. I get ready for school. Clothes, shoes, backpack, collar, perfect. I walk downstairs and notice mother and father in pajamas. They see me and look at each other then back to me. "You going to school?" father asks. I nod and see a smile play across his face. "You might want to look outside first," he says finally, which earns him a jab in the ribs from mother. I look out the window and to my surprise, there's snow on the ground. "They canceled school for today and we don't feel like putting chains on the cars so we called in sick." mother explained. My heart lifted as that would mean that I could spend more time with Ivan. The doorbell rang, speak of the devil. I opened the door and there he was in all his glory. "Hey, I heard." he said in his heavenly voice.
"Oh boy, I think I ate too much. Thank you for dinner, Ivan." I said, smiling warmly at him. He smiles right back at me and says "My pleasure." As we sit next to each other, he starts edging closer and I do the same. As we sit there, he leans against me. I nuzzle his neck and chest. I feel his paw on my chin, guiding my face. As I look into his eyes, him into mine, we press our lips together in another kiss. It seemed to last forever. I feel his arms wrap around my shoulders, his hand on the back of my head. When he breaks the kiss I have to catch my breath. "Care to dance?" he says to me, motioning toward the dance floor. I notice for the first time that there was music playing. I nod and he leads me to it. There are other couples, but I don't care. All that matters is I'm here with Ivan. I catch glimpses of other people glaring at us in disguist, but what do they know? They've probably never known this kind of love. Was that what this was? Love? I'm not sure but I do know that this feeling inside is strong and I feel like whenever Ivan holds me my chest will explode. As we sway in time with the music, I have this feeling of wholeness. It feels so right to be in his arms. As the music changes to a new song, we go to the cashier and Ivan pays the bill. We go outside and start walking to his car. He unlocks the doors and opens mine and leads me in. He closes the door and walks around to his side. When he gets in I move to assume my usual place on his shoulder, but he stops me. I must've had such a face on, because he chuckled lightly. I was about to say something when he stopped me by placing a finger on my lips. My ears dip a little. He leans forward and kisses where his finger was before. He slowly snakes his tongue into my mouth, I don't resist rather, I lean into the kiss. Our breathing became heavy and labored. I feel his paw caressing my back and rump. As we break the kiss, I feel desperately needed oxygen rush to my brain. "Wow, what a rush" I pant out. He nods, straightens his shirt, starts the car, and we pull away from the curb.
As we pull into the driveway, Ivan turns to me and asks "Hey, you want to stay over at my house tonight?" I put on a mock scowl and reply "You need to ask? Of course I do." He smiles then says "Well then go in there, ask your parents, grab your clothes, and we'll head over to my place." I leaned over and pecked him on the cheek as I opened the door and got out.
I get back in the car with some clothes, a bottle of shampoo, my toothbrush and toothpaste, and my cell phone which I had left here earlier today. "Ready to go? You have everything you need?" he asks. I nod and he pulls out of the driveway. I see my parents in the window, waving as we disappear into the distance.
When we pull up to a gate, I turn to him. "You live in a gated comunity?" I ask. He laughed aloud for a moment. He replied, still chuckling a bit, "No, I don't. This is the front gate to the driveway." As we drove down, I saw a huge house. No, "house" is an understatement, the place is a freaking mansion. "We're here" he said melodiously. I notice something odd. "Where are your parents?" I ask. He chuckled and replied "You noticed, huh? There out of town for the night, they don't mind if I have company over, just no parties. Oh, and keeping the house clean is a must."
We walk into the foyer. Forget what I said before, this place is its own city, now if I just had a map. We walk towards what Ivan says is the living room. "Go ahead and set your stuff anywhere" he says to me. I chuckle and reply "I'm almost afraid to." He chuckles too. I set my stuff down next to the couch. "So you're sure you want to sleep down here?" he asks, which catches me off gaurd. "Well I guess," I say nervously, "You can keep me company down here. Unless there's another room you want me to sleep in." I thought I saw him blush, just a little. "Do you want to sleep in the same room or-" I cut him off there, "Sure, I want to sleep in the same room. It wouldn't be much of a sleepover if we didn't." I said and wink at him. He smiles back at me. We walk towards each other. He wraps his arms around my waist, I reach up to his shoulders and pull him closer to me. We press our lips together in a kiss. He pulls my waist closer to his. I murr quietly, and I feel him doing the same. When we break the kiss, he says "I love you, Davis." I didn't expect it, and yet it's what I was wanting to hear at this exact moment. "I love you too, Ivan." I smiled at him, then touched my nose to his.

A story I've been working on since Junior year in high school... so it's kind of old... but I haven't edited it since... maybe you'll see why.

I've been praised for it, but due to a lack of furries on dA... it sadly went mostly unnoticed. I tried my best to try and spread the word a little... bring in some traffic, but had no luck.

After years of neglect... I read it again and somehow still get chills reading it. Hopefully it'll be a good way of letting people know who I am... granted the second chapter is still in the works.

Before anyone says anything... I already know that some of it is very questionable... but I like it just the way it is. I may not be offended by some criticism, so long as you let me know what's wrong with it and how to avoid the problem in the future. I'm not fond of people telling me it's not good and then run off without so much as a howd'y'do.

It's a good story, but it seems to pop from place to place, just kinda randomly, without much to show that it did.

Well... the point was not to focus on points in time where nothing interesting happens. I was trying to write it from the point of view of what the character remembers... hence it starting quasi-thirdperson in the beginning. I hope that helps.

Ah, that makes more sense...

As I hoped it would~

Also, I'm glad you liked it. It's one of the few stories I've ever writen that I'm proud of.... more or less.
