Super Nostalgia RPG

by
Not of me to make a journal about nothing... did it one time before about my nostalgia with Pokemon ( https://www.furaffinity.net/journal/1063110/ ) and now... Super Mario RPG.

That game, Super Mario RPG, is my 2nd most nostalgic game of all time. I loaded it up for a bit and man... yeah such memories that game. The graphics... music... memories...

It is just hard to describe the feeling for me other than saying those things, the memories I built with that game when I was a kid and all. I mean... it makes me feel so sad and yet feel good... that is what nostalgia is after all, I suppose.

Anyway just wanted to share that. I need more gamer friends to talk games with.... heh. That know about games, talk games and all that... variety of games too and played old games such as that.

My sega genesis only had 2 games for about 9 months. Sonic 3 and Sonic and knuckles.
Its obvious what game is most nostalgic for me.

Heh yeah I guess when that is all you have. It's interesting how us, as kids, were able to play the same game over and over... part of it may have been because we couldn't beat the darn things, heh.

There are games I could replay constantly and never get tired of. Parts that just move me to tears, partly because of the emotion involved that - as an older gamer - I have more personal experience with, but also I have such memories of my first experiences of those moments. Some people might say it's silly, but if you're allowed to cry over books or movies, why not games? If anything, you're more invested in the story because you've played through all the events leading up to it!!!

I can totally relate, bud.

Heh well games move me. I mean I only get close to crying, not easy for me to cry. I just get close to it. inFamous is one of those games for me, heh. Just yeah... ever since I moved into today's modern gaming, having got myself a PS3 back in Nov. 2010, it has re-awakened my love for gaming and I have played games that made me feel things like that compared to games like Nintendo, which I played only before then, aside from PS2 long ago in the past... in which the story is not as strong, just with Mario save the princess sort and yeah... fun games of course just the story is not moving.

But yeah thing with nostalgia is just makes me feel so... sad yet good inside... but sad. Most seems to do with the graphics for me of a game. As I stated in this comment here. ( https://inkbunny.net/journalview.php?id=9535#commentid_... )

As for the never get tired of, sadly, I get tired of games no matter how much I love em. So when in a Zelda mood I play that till I no longer feel in the mood. Or when I feel in a Metroid, Mario or inFamous mood... you get the idea. I can only stick to a game so long before I tire of it and move. Don't get me wrong though, the mood comes back, it just takes a few months for it to strike me again.

Ah yes Super Mario RPG, God knows how much of my time was eaten by that game. Not only do I still have the cartridge for the game but also I DLed to my Wii. I just wish they really had Geno in Super Smash Bros.

BTW Culex at lvl 27 FTW (Those who have really played will know my meaning)

Ah... heh, I defeated Culex at lower level than that. I didn't keep note, sadly, but it must have been level 25 or below. Yeah I think it was around level 20... I felt bold especially after getting the Super Suit. I had the Lazy Shell as well I think... darn. Next time I play I should try to remember my level. I have 22 in my head but I could be wrong. I just know I was about level 26 when I was at the final place and grinded myself up those last few levels in the place before the final boss. Or was I below 26? Gah I can't remember but I know I spent time at the end leveling myself up the rest of the way and I had already beaten Culex before I got to the final place.

Well I didn't have the Lucky Shell or Super Scarf yet, I used Lucky Egg w/Rare Candies and a Scrooge Ring.

Second, HOLY CRAP YOU'RE Raukue my fav digi/pokemon artist, the icon threw me for a loop.

Third, why must your charmander hotness be so temting and flirtatious?
Raukue

Heh didn't know it was me? And heh dunno why my Charmander is like that.

But hmm yeah I beat him at a rather low level... as an adult. As a kid I don't think I ever beat him and was afraid of that door, heh.

I took him out as a kid, I've always done the "you're crazy" difficulty levels and challenges for example in Shining Force NEO there are three paths in most areas you come across normal, hard, and suicidal much? I always choose the last one.

That is one of my favorite RPGs, along with Final Fantasy IV and Final Fantasy VI.

Also, Geno Whirl. Best move in that game when you've mastered the timing. XD

Heh I found Geno Boost more the game breaker there. Just boost attack and defense and made the game easier, as well as Mario's Super Suit.

That helped out, also. I just like seeing "9999" pop up when I'm dealing damage. XD
Raukue

Just a shame it didn't work on bosses though... except one, but only part of that one I believe. And it would work on bosses, but only if there were already gonna die from far less damage than that anyway, like if it wasn't timed right anyway.. or something like that. Just if they got enough damage to be near death and all.

It worked on the pommel of Exor - which was the very part you needed to actually defeat. And Geno Whirl is like the Death spell of the game; Death spells aren't supposed to work on bosses. (They just couldn't actually make it a "Death" spell because, I mean, look at the target audience! XD) Besides, it's not any fun if it's not a challenge anymore, right? That's why I went up against Culex early, after all; I was at an appropriate level with appropriate equipment (IE, no Lazy Shell weapon/armor, no Super Suit, but I DID have the Safety Ring on Peach). I also liked boss battles that you were supposed to lose, but could win - like in Lufia II, where you could beat Gades the first time you fought him and take his sword (and, unless you went through the Ancient Cave and found better Blue Chest items, you wouldn't need another sword for a LONG time). XD

Hmm... I just kinda don't like in games where you have to make your own challenge and all. I guess since I could never do it, because I want to have everything and all and for a challenge it means not to.

As for bosses you can beat but are not suppose to, that is always interesting. I think there was this boss in a game where it would glitch the game if you beat him because you were not suppose to. I remember playing Yugioh Forbidden Memories for PS1 and the first guy you battle you are suppose to lose, he had powerful cards with attacks of 2500 or higher and you had weak cards. But after trying many times I finally beat him somehow... only to find he is a sore loser and says no we have to duel again he was suppose to win... freakin bull. Heh. That should have been victory, I beat the game by beating the 1 guy who caused all the problems and I stopped it all, mwahaha! But yeah... heh.

ahhhhhh now that was a clasic little slice from my childhood. i loved that game. so many awesome characters.

did you ever play the shining force games?
Raukue

Only on emulator, when younger though. Holds some memories but not enough for nostalgia. Super Mario Bros 3 on SNES does though. The graphics seem to have alot to do with my nostalgia of a game, as well as the music mixed in with it. Cousins and I use to play Super Mario World far more as a kid as well as Link to the Past yet... that does not really hold much, if any, nostalgia... I guess cause the graphics, I dunno.

Link's Awakening on Gameboy holds some nostalgia though, because of the graphics and obviously memories. Can't think of other games right now that bring me nostalgia at the moment... Secret of Mana a bit, though I never beat it. The music in that game... man, so nice...

Ah, what a great game. I popped in Super Mario RPG not even a month ago...it is always one of my old favorites for the SNES, so fun and it really does bring back some serious memories...  Could never get the 100 super jumps in a row though... @_@
Raukue
12 years, 11 months ago
I could never do 100 as a kid as well... but, when I got it on my Wii... well it is my bro's and he took it with him when he moved out... I got it on there and did do 100 Super Jumps... heh. Thought I could never do it legit but I did. Only time I did it was on emulator. But heh man it really does get tense and you get nervous that you get so close and fail. I had got about around 80 I think when I checked up to see how close I was before and kept trying till I got 100. Really makes the game too easy to have that Suit though.

Heh, I did it the same way actually, back when I played on the emulator. But I have the actual cartridge now and play it on that.  That was insane. just slap that suit onto Toadstool and she would never die...EVAH! And as such, well if someone dies just have her bring them back lol.   I put her in the heavy troopa shell until then lol, sure she doesn't deal as much damage but hey...no dieing for the princess. *chuckles*  It's cool to be able to think about and just reminisce about the game.

Yeah but sad thing about nostalgia is that... it is a feeling that exists now, that didn't exist back then. Even when I play the game, I feel nostalgic at first and as I think about it, but as I just play and all I stop feeling nostalgic and all. It is like it is more powerful in thought and all that sort...

Nostalgia can be a powerful emotion, but it doesn't necesserily make it a bad emotion. I enjoy the feeling while diving into an older game, been doing it for about a month now, just enjoying older titles on the SNES and PSone. Games now a days don't seem to be as deep or enthralling as some of the older generation games.
Raukue

It isn't of course. But hmm no that is not true I think games are more story driven today. Games of the past use to be about the challenge, the story tended to be weak, save the princess this or that... was about the gameplay and challenge. But now today's gaming is more about the experience had, rather than challenge. Zelda games have become too easy and really need a difficulty setting. I understand it is made easier so more people can get into it but that just makes it less of a challenge. I dunno why they can't add that... is it so hard to do that? Nintendo seems rather behind in that department.

But yeah it is like I said... it is a feeling that is stronger in thought because when I load up the game, I may feel nostalgic for awhile but then no longer feel that way and just focus on the game for what it is and all. Hmm.

"The graphics... music... memories..."
The music of Super Mario RPG really rocks. I'm a collector of SNES soundtracks in .spc and SMRPG is one of the best I heard in SNES (though I still prefer Donkey Kong Country series).
Super Mario RPG is very funny, I laugh so much at it's jokes and, yes, the graphic quality was far beyond what we usually expect from SNES. Square could do a lot of good graphic-related stuff, like Chrono Trigger.:3
